Overview

This document is a Use & Care Guide for a Maytag French Door Bottom Mount Refrigerator, combining advanced cooling technology with simple operation and high efficiency.

Function Description:

The Maytag French Door Bottom Mount Refrigerator is designed to optimize energy efficiency and regulate temperatures to match cooling demand. It features a dual evaporator system (on some models) that provides separate climates for the refrigerator and freezer compartments, ensuring fresh food stays at ideal temperature and humidity, and frozen food remains cold and dry. The refrigerator includes a Store-N-Door® ice dispensing system, which frees up shelf space by locating the ice storage bin in the door. It also incorporates an air filter to reduce common food odors and a produce preserver (on some models) that absorbs ethylene gas to delay the over-ripening of fresh produce, extending the freshness of certain fruits and vegetables. LED lighting illuminates the interior, and a door alarm alerts users if a door or drawer is left ajar. Some models also include a power outage indicator to inform users if power has been interrupted and the freezer temperature has risen.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Water Supply Requirements: A cold water supply with water pressure between 35 and 120 psi (241 and 827 kPa) is required for the water dispenser and ice maker. For reverse osmosis systems, the pressure to the refrigerator's water inlet valve should be between 35 and 120 psi (241 and 827 kPa), with the reverse osmosis system itself requiring a minimum of 40 to 60 psi (276 to 414 kPa).
  • Electrical Requirements: A 115 volt, 60 Hz, AC only 15- or 20-amp fused, grounded electrical supply is required. A separate circuit serving only the refrigerator and approved accessories is recommended.
  • Temperature Range: The refrigerator is intended for use in locations where ambient temperatures range from 55°F (13°C) to 110°F (43°C). The preferred room temperature range for optimum performance is 60°F (15°C) to 90°F (32°C).
  • Water Filter: NSF® Certified filter reduces chlorine taste and odor, particulates (class I), lead, and mercury. Capacity: 200 gallons (757 liters). Service flow rate: 0.75 gpm (2.84 L/min.) @ 60 psi.
  • Air Filter: 15 times more powerful than baking soda at reducing common food odors.
  • Ice Production Rate: Produces approximately 3 lbs (1.4 kg) of ice per day under normal operating conditions.
  • Temperature Set Points: Recommended set points are 37°F (3°C) for the refrigerator and 0°F (-18°C) for the freezer. Refrigerator set point range: 33°F to 45°F (0°C to 7°C). Freezer set point range: -5°F to 5°F (-21°C to -15°C).
  • Clearances: Allow 1/2" (1.25 cm) of space on each side and at the top, and 1" (2.54 cm) behind the refrigerator for proper ventilation. A 33/4" (9.5 cm) minimum space between the refrigerator and a fixed wall is needed for the door to swing open.

Usage Features:

  • Controls: Located above the external dispenser, available in Style 1 or Style 2 depending on the model. The display enters "sleep" mode after 2 minutes of inactivity and can be reactivated by pressing any button.
  • Temperature Adjustment: Users can view and adjust temperature set points for both refrigerator and freezer compartments. Adjustments should be made in 1° increments, with a 24-hour waiting period between adjustments.
  • Cooling On/Off: The cooling function can be turned off, indicated by "cooling off" on the display.
  • Fast Ice: An option to increase ice production for 24 hours during periods of heavy ice use.
  • PowerCold™: (on some models) Assists during periods of high refrigerator use, full grocery loads, or temporarily warm room temperatures, remaining active for 24 hours.
  • Water Filter Status: Displays the percentage of use remaining in the water filter, with "ORDER" (yellow) and "REPLACE" (red) indicators.
  • Door Ajar Alarm: Sounds an alert tone and displays "Door Ajar" if a door or drawer is open for 5 minutes or longer.
  • Power Outage Indicator: (on some models) Displays "Power Outage" and sounds an alert tone if power has been off and freezer temperature has risen to 18°F (-8°C) or higher.
  • Disabling Sounds: Control and dispenser sounds (except alert tones) can be turned off.
  • Showroom Mode: A retail display mode where the refrigerator does not cool. Instructions are provided to exit this mode.
  • Water and Ice Dispenser: Dispenses water, crushed ice, and cubed ice. Requires flushing the water system after installation or filter replacement. Users are advised to dispense at least 1 qt (1 L) of water weekly for freshness.
  • Crisper Humidity Control: Adjustable control for moisture-sealed crispers, with settings for LOW (open) for fruits and vegetables with skins, and HIGH (closed) for fresh, leafy vegetables.
  • Temperature-Controlled Drawer: (on some models) A full-width drawer with electronic or manual controls to store items like meat, drinks, or deli at optimum temperatures.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: Both refrigerator and freezer sections defrost automatically. Monthly cleaning of both sections is recommended to prevent odor buildup.
    • Exterior Cleaning: Specific instructions are provided for smooth and stainless steel doors. For stainless steel, only use a stainless steel cleaner designed for appliances and avoid abrasive cloths, paper towels, newsprint, steel-wool pads, abrasive powders/liquids, window sprays, ammonia, acidic/vinegar-based cleaners, oven cleaners, mustard, tomato juice, marinara sauce, citrus-based sauces, and citrus-based products.
    • Interior Cleaning: Hand wash, rinse, and dry removable parts and interior surfaces with a clean sponge or soft cloth and mild detergent. Avoid abrasive or harsh cleaners.
    • Condenser Cleaning: Not routinely needed in normal home environments, but recommended every 2-3 months in greasy, dusty, or high pet traffic environments. Involves unplugging, removing the base grille, and vacuuming the grille and condenser.
    • Ice Dispenser Chute: Clean every 2 weeks to prevent ice clumping and blockages.
  • Water Filter Replacement: Replace every 6 months or when indicated by the status display. Instructions are provided for removal and installation.
  • Air Filter Replacement: Replace every 6 months or when the status indicator changes completely from white to red. Instructions are provided for removal and installation.
  • Produce Preserver Replacement: (on some models) Replace disposable pouches every 6 months or when the status indicator changes completely from white to red.
  • Vacation and Moving Care: Detailed instructions are provided for preparing the refrigerator for extended absences or relocation, including turning off water supply and ice maker, removing food, cleaning, and securing parts.
  • Troubleshooting: A comprehensive section addresses common issues such as the refrigerator not operating, motor running too much, lights not working, noise, temperature and moisture problems, and water/ice dispenser issues. Solutions are provided for each problem.
  • Warranty: A ten-year limited warranty is provided, covering parts and labor for the first year, and the compressor only (labor not included) for years two through ten. Exclusions include commercial use, instructional service, consumable parts, damage from misuse, cosmetic damage, and service in remote locations.
