What to do if my Maytag MHW5500FW Washer is not draining or spinning and loads are still wet?
    • L
      Lori LewisAug 20, 2025
If your Maytag Washer is not draining or spinning, and loads are still wet, ensure the drain hose doesn't extend more than 4.5" (114 mm) into the standpipe. Check for proper drain hose installation, using the drain hose form and securely attaching it to the drainpipe or tub, without taping over the drain opening. Lower the drain hose if it's higher than 96" (2.4 m) above the floor and remove any clogs. Also, remove any strainer or nylon stocking from the end of the drain hose and make sure the drain hose fits loosely, yet securely, in the standpipe, without being sealed with tape to allow for an air gap.

What to do if my Maytag Washer won't run or fill, or stops working?
    • G
      Gina KingAug 22, 2025
If your Maytag Washer won’t run or fill, or stops working, check that both hoses are attached and have water flowing to the inlet valve. Ensure both hot and cold water faucets are turned on, and inspect the inlet valve screens for clogs. Also, check the inlet hoses for any kinks that might restrict water flow.

Why is my Maytag MHW5500FW leaking water or suds from the door or rear of the cabinet?
    • A
      andrewgouldAug 25, 2025
If you notice water or suds leaking from the door or rear of your Maytag Washer, it might be due to using non-HE detergent or using too much HE detergent. Only use HE detergent, and always measure it according to the manufacturer’s directions based on your load requirements. Periodically clean the underside of the door glass to avoid potential leaks. Water can also drip off the inside of the door if it's opened during the "Add a Garment" phase.

What to do if 'Sd' or 'Sud' appears on my Maytag MHW5500FW display?
    • M
      Michelle RobinsonAug 26, 2025
The “Sd” or “Sud” error indicates excessive suds in the washer, triggering a suds-reduction routine. Allow the washer to continue its cycle. Ensure you are using only HE (High Efficiency) detergent and follow the manufacturer's instructions to use the correct amount based on your load size. Note that not all HE detergents are the same; some, like natural, organic, or homemade ones, may create more suds. You might also try setting the water hardness to “soft” using the WATER HARDNESS setting, if your model has one. If the issue continues, consider switching to a different HE detergent.

How to fix all detergent level status lights lit on my Maytag Washer?
    • S
      Susan StewartAug 28, 2025
If all detergent level status lights are lit on your Maytag Washer, it could be that the detergent dispenser is not securely in place. Try pulling out the dispenser, filling it with detergent, and sliding it back in. It could also be a Detergent Level sensor error. Touch POWER/CANCEL to reset the system. If the LEDs remain lit, unplug the washer for 30 seconds, then plug it back in. If the problem continues, remove the cartridge and use single load dispensing until the issue is resolved.

What does it mean when the Clean Washer LED is flashing on my Maytag Washer?
    • J
      Justin JohnsonAug 30, 2025
If you observe the Clean Washer LED flashing at the end of a wash cycle on your Maytag Washer, it means the washer has completed 30 wash cycles and is reminding you to run the Clean Washer with affresh® cycle. Run the Clean Washer with affresh® cycle. If you don't turn on the Clean Washer with affresh® cycle, the LED will stop flashing after 3 more regular wash cycles. After 30 more wash cycles, the LED will flash again as a reminder.

Why is my Maytag MHW5500FW vibrating, rocking, or 'walking'?
    • H
      Heather MccartySep 2, 2025
To address excessive vibration, rocking, or "walking" in your Maytag Washer, ensure the front and rear feet are in firm contact with the floor and that the washer is level. The jam nuts must be tight against the bottom of the cabinet. Check the floor for flexing or sagging; if uneven, a ¾" (19 mm) piece of plywood may help. Avoid tightly packing the load or washing single items; balance loads with a few extra items. Also, ensure the shipping bolts have been removed from the back of the washer as described in the Installation Instructions.

Why is my Maytag Washer not cleaning or removing stains?
    • J
      Jose BrownSep 4, 2025
If your Maytag Washer is not cleaning or removing stains effectively, ensure you're loading it loosely to allow items to move freely. Use only HE detergent, measuring it according to the manufacturer's directions based on load size and soil level. If you have hard water or high iron levels, consider installing a water softener or iron filter. Avoid using a fabric softener dispensing ball; instead, add liquid fabric softener to the designated compartment. For slow-speed cycles, consider using liquid detergent instead of powdered.

Why is my Maytag Washer making clicking or metallic noises?
    • C
      Chelsea WilsonSep 6, 2025
If you hear clicking or metallic noises from your Maytag Washer, it could be the door locking or unlocking, which is normal. The door will lock, unlock, and lock again, and you'll hear 3 clicks after touching and holding START. Alternatively, there may be objects caught in the washer drain system. Empty pockets before washing, as loose items like coins could fall between the washer drum and tub or block the pump. You may need to call for service to remove these items.
