The M145-97T is a ride-on mower designed for cutting grass. It features a steering wheel for direction control, a throttle control to regulate engine speed and blade rotation, and clutch/brake pedals for declutching, braking, and engine starting. The mower also includes a forward/reverse drive pedal for controlling movement direction and speed. A dedicated lever allows for the connection and disconnection of the cutting unit, as well as quick lifting and lowering of the cutting unit, which should be in its highest position during transport. An ignition lock with four positions (OFF, ROS ON, ON, START) controls the engine. The "ROS ON" position enables the operation of the mower deck or other powered attachments while in reverse, a feature strongly discouraged unless absolutely necessary for repositioning. A parking brake is also included for safety. The mower deck is equipped with a washout port for easy cleaning after each use.

Starting the Engine: To start the engine, the operator must be seated, depress the brake pedal, engage the parking brake, ensure the cutting unit is in the transport (top) position, and the attachment clutch control is in the disconnected position. The ignition key is then turned to the "START" position. If the engine is cold, the choke control should be pulled out before starting and pushed back in once the engine runs smoothly.
Driving: Movement is controlled by forward and reverse drive pedals. Ground speed increases with further depression of the pedal.
Cutting: The cutting unit is lowered by moving the lift lever forward, and the cutting unit is connected. The operator should choose a driving speed suitable for the terrain and desired cutting results. For best results, the mower blades should be adjusted so the front tip is slightly lower than the rear tip when the mower is in its highest position. Cutting wet grass is not recommended as it can lead to uneven results.
Safety Systems: The mower is equipped with an Operator Presence System (OPS) and a Reverse Operation System (ROS). The OPS ensures the engine shuts off if the operator leaves the seat while the engine is running and the attachment clutch is engaged. The ROS prevents the engine from running in reverse with the attachment clutch engaged unless the ignition key is in the "ROS ON" position, a feature to be used only when absolutely necessary.
Mulching: The mulcher plate can be installed for mulching operations. The mulcher blades are designed for both discharging and bagging.
Regular Checks: Before each use, the operator should check the oil level, lubricate pivot points, inspect all bolts, nuts, and cotter pins for security, check the battery terminals and vents, clean the air screen, and ensure the tractor is free of dirt and chaff to prevent overheating. Brake operation should also be checked.
Oil Change: The engine oil should be changed periodically. The manual provides instructions for draining hot oil using an oil drain extension and warns against overtightening the drain plug.
Battery Maintenance: The battery should be charged for at least one hour at 6-10 amps if put into service after the month and year indicated on its label. Safety precautions include removing metal jewelry before handling the battery.
Blade Maintenance: Mower blades should be kept sharp for best results. Bent or damaged blades must be replaced. Sharpening can be done with a file or grinding disc, ensuring both sides are sharpened equally to avoid imbalance.
Tire Pressure: Regular checks of tire pressure are essential to ensure proper inflation, which affects the appearance of the lawn and mower performance.
Cleaning: The manual recommends cleaning the entire machine, especially underneath the cutting unit cover, after each use. High-pressure washers are not recommended to prevent water from entering the engine and transmission. Compressed air or a leaf blower should be used to remove grass, leaves, and trash. The steering plate should also be cleaned to prevent debris from restricting clutch/brake pedal shaft movement.
Storage: At the end of the mowing season, the machine should be thoroughly cleaned, paint chips touched up, engine oil changed, and the fuel tank drained. The spark plug should be removed, a tablespoon of engine oil poured into the cylinder, and the engine pulled over to distribute the oil. The battery should be removed, recharged, and stored in a cool, dry place, protected from low temperatures. The mower should be stored indoors in a dry, dust-free environment. Gasoline should never be used for cleaning; degreasing detergent and warm water are recommended instead.
