signal.Ground noises usually give a broad uneven signal when the coil
is swept fro m different directions, and often ma y only give a signal
from one dire ction and no signal on the return sw eep.
*I f you are not sure if th e sound is gr ound noise or a targe t signal you
should alwa ys in vestigate.Scrape a shallow hole abou t 30mm deep over
the suspected target.Sweep the coil over the hole at th e original gr ound
level.Do not dip the coil into the hole. If the signal has dec reased in
vo lume or is less defined it is probably ground noise. If the signal
remains the same.or becomes louder,it lik ely a metallic target.if you
are still not sure make the hole deeper and re peat th e process .
*A halo effect, which may be built up around a buried metal
ob ject, makes the objec t appear to be larger to th e detector than it
actually is.This will be reduced once the target is disturbed from its
po sition in the ground(e.g.a small objec t,detecte d at a substan tial
de pth,may be mo re difficult to detect once disturbed from the groun d
and lying in the loose dirt.I f the object is re-buried the halo
eff ectwill not be present).
*D o not try to eliminate what might appear to be a faint, isolated
gr ound noise by ba lancing the detector over the targ et;you may be
balancing out the target response from a deeply buried metallic
targ et.I t is better to Ground Balan ce around the target, without going
across it,Then switch to Fixed and try Pinpointing.
*D ig all targ et signals, even in pre viously detected areas. The MCD
Series have super ior ground balancin g and depth so it is possible to
find new targ ets in well-worked ar eas where other detectors have bee n
un able to cope with th e high degree of mine ralisation an/or sa lt.
*I n some min eralised soils a response may be received from a
concentration of oran ge/reddis h dy ke mater ial or clay.Reme mber,a
metal target will get lo uder by mo ving the coil even ce ntimetres closer.
*I f detec ting areas of extr emely variable mineralisa tion de tect along
