Overview

The Purair 750 Maternity System is a fully automatic Active Anaesthetic Gas Scavenging System designed for self-administered analgesia, providing a cleaner and healthier working environment for medical staff while ensuring patient safety. Two versions are available: one for normal delivery suites and another for use with a birthing pool. The birthing pool version features a low voltage connection within the trunking for enhanced safety in a water environment.

Function Description:

The Purair 750 Maternity System is activated when the patient lifts the mask from the hook-switch. This action simultaneously initiates room ventilation, drawing air from the base of the unit. Once the mask is replaced on the hook-switch, the system continues to run for approximately twenty minutes to clear the immediate area, then automatically switches off. The system connects to the analgesic handset via a disposable drain trap hose assembly, recommended for single patient use. The drain trap collects naturally occurring condensation.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Extraction Flow Rate: Approximately 600 Lpm (Standard installation).
  • Trunking System Dimensions (W x D x H): 178mm x 127mm x To customer spec.
  • Power Supply: 220/240 volts.
  • Trunking System Weight: Approximately 14 kilos.
  • Pump Weight: 3.5 kilos.
  • Electric Class: 1 IEC 60601-1.
  • Pump Power Rating: 46 watts / 0.35 amps.
  • Induced Flow Rate: Maximum 0.8 Lpm (NOTE appendix F2 130 LPM to be substituted by maximum flow).
  • Pipe Clipping: Inlet and Exhaust pipe to be clipped at not more than 2.5 Metre Intervals.
  • Timer Over-run: 15/20 minutes.
  • Compliance: BS EN ISO 9170-2:2008, BS EN ISO 9001-2015, BS EN ISO 13485-2012.
  • Over Voltage Category: I according to IEC 60664-1.
  • Latex Free: The PA750 is latex free.

Usage Features:

  • Automatic Activation: System starts when the mask is lifted from the hook-switch.
  • Timed Shut-off: Continues to run for 15-20 minutes after mask replacement to clear residual gases.
  • Disposable Drain Trap Hose Assembly: Recommended for single patient use to collect condensation. This assembly comprises two lengths of 22mm transfer hose, one drain-trap, one 30mm Female Connector, and one 30mm Male Connector.
  • Connection: One end of the Drain Trap Hose Assembly connects to the Patient Inlet using a 30mm Male Connector. The other end connects to the Analgesic Handset using a 30mm Female Connector. The Gas Delivery Hose connects to the Gas Supply.
  • Flow Indicator: Both standard and birthing pool systems have a front panel flow indicator where a green float is visible when the fan is running.
  • Birthing Pool Variant: Features a "PULL CORD ON/OFF SWITCH" instead of a front panel mains switch, connected via a 24V Low Voltage transformer control box for safety in water environments.
  • Safety Precautions:
    • Use a standard electrical AC wall outlet; do not connect to high voltage sources.
    • Do not use a DC power source.
    • Covers should not be removed by unauthorized personnel.
    • Do not cover air inlet grills or block the space around the unit's base to prevent restricted airflow.
    • Do not restrict or occlude the exit vent to prevent fan motor overheating and system malfunction.
    • The exhaust line must terminate outside the building in a 90º elbow or vent kit, positioned to minimize re-entry of expelled gases. A Discharge Warning Label should be attached adjacent to the discharge point.

Maintenance Features:

  • Regular Checks: The trunking system should be checked regularly for dirt and obstructions. Pipes should be checked regularly for damage.
  • Cleaning: The unit can be cleaned using a standard vacuum cleaner. Care should be taken not to damage the foam in the silencer when cleaning the Receiving System. Outer surfaces require periodic cleaning with commonly used disinfectants and cleaning agents.
  • Scheduled Maintenance: The Purair 750 requires maintenance twice yearly.
  • Fan Inspection: The fan should be inspected after three months of initial use to ensure no dirt or deposits on the impeller or motor. Thereafter, it should be checked periodically as experience dictates, or at least twice yearly.
  • Sealed Bearings: All fan motors are fitted with sealed-for-life bearings and do not require lubrication.
  • Fan Motor Removal: To remove the fan motor, disconnect the power supply, remove the motor from the main housing, clean, and re-assemble, ensuring the airflow arrow points towards the exit. Re-connect power and test.
  • Service/Repairs: Regular servicing can be arranged by contacting MEC Medical Ltd. Qualified Service Personnel must perform all servicing and repairs using genuine spare parts.
  • Warranty: The product is covered by a 12-month warranty from the date of purchase for manufacturing or material faults.

Assembly Instructions:

  1. Remove trunking from packing and place on a flat surface.
  2. Remove screws from both sides of the trunking and lift off the top panel. Exercise care with the hook switch during this process.
  3. Fix the back panel to the wall using the 6 fixing holes, ensuring the top of the panel is flush to the ceiling.
  4. Fix the motor in the required position.
  5. Prepare and fix the exit vent in the required location, ensuring it is slightly lower than the motor to allow condensation to drain externally.
  6. Connect the exit side of the fan to the exit vent using the supplied 68mm pipe and connectors. The arrow on the fan should point towards the exit vent. Glue all joints with the supplied glue.
  7. Connect the trunking system to the inlet side of the fan using the supplied 68mm pipe and connectors. Glue all joints with the supplied glue.
  8. For electrical connection, refer to the wiring diagram provided in the manual (Grey = LS, Blue = Neutral, Red = Live). A qualified electrician must undertake this connection.
  9. After completion, replace the front panel (taking care of the hook switch) and test for operation.
