The Medline Aeromist Compact® Nebulizer Compressor Kit is a medical device designed for aerosol therapy, specifically for the inhalation of medical aerosols to treat respiratory disorders such as asthma, allergies, and bronchitis. This compressor nebulizer converts prescribed medication solutions into an aerosolized mist, which is then inhaled by the patient through a mouthpiece or an aerosol mask.
Function Description
The core function of the Aeromist Compact® is to facilitate the delivery of liquid medication in a fine mist form directly to the patient's respiratory system. It achieves this by using a compressor to generate pressurized air, which then flows through tubing to a jet nebulizer. Inside the jet nebulizer, the air stream atomizes the liquid medication into a fine aerosol mist. This mist is then inhaled by the patient, allowing the medication to reach the lungs effectively. The device is intended for use with commonly used solutions and specific types and amounts of medication as prescribed by a physician.
Usage Features
The Aeromist Compact® is designed for straightforward operation, emphasizing patient safety and ease of use.
- Setup: The device should be placed on a stable, sturdy, and flat surface within easy reach of the seated user. Before plugging it in, ensure the power switch is in the "OFF" (0) position. The power cord is then connected to a wall outlet.
- Nebulizer Assembly: One end of the tubing connects to the compressor's air outlet connector. The prescribed medication solution is added to the jet nebulizer cap through its opening, using an eye dropper or a pre-measured dose container. It's crucial not to exceed the maximum capacity of 10 mL of solution in the jet nebulizer. The mouthpiece is then assembled onto the top of the jet nebulizer cap. If an aerosol mask is preferred, its bottom connects to the top of the jet nebulizer cap. Finally, the other end of the tubing connects to the jet nebulizer's air inlet connector.
- Operation: To begin treatment, the compressor is turned on by pressing the power switch to the "ON" (I) position. For mouthpiece use, the patient places the mouthpiece between their teeth and inhales and exhales through it. If an aerosol mask is used, it is placed over the mouth and nose.
- Safety Precautions during Use: Users are advised not to untwist the jet nebulizer during operation. The device should not be operated in wet or damp locations, and the nebulizer should be filled only after the unit is unplugged. It is also important to ensure that the air openings of the product are not blocked, especially when placed on soft surfaces like beds or couches.
- Thermal Protection: The compressor motor includes a thermal protector. In the event of overheating, this protector will automatically shut off the unit. If this occurs, the user must switch off the unit, unplug it from the electrical outlet, and wait 30 minutes for the motor to cool down before attempting another treatment.
- Physician's Instructions: Adherence to a physician's instructions is paramount for the safe and effective operation of this unit, including the type and amount of medication.
Maintenance Features
Proper cleaning and maintenance are essential for the longevity, hygiene, and effective performance of the Aeromist Compact® nebulizer.
- Daily Cleaning (Nebulizer Components): After each aerosol treatment, cleaning of the nebulizer components is recommended. This involves turning off the power and unplugging the compressor. The tubing is removed from the air inlet. The mouthpiece, jet nebulizer cap, chamber, and baffle are disassembled and washed in hot water with dish-washing detergent. These items should be thoroughly rinsed to remove all detergent and then allowed to air dry.
- Daily Disinfection (Nebulizer Components): Disinfection is recommended once a day. A solution of 1/4 cup of white vinegar mixed with 3/4 cup of hot water in a clean container is used. The mouthpiece, T-piece, nebulizer cap, chamber, and baffle should be submerged in this solution for 30 minutes. After disinfection, these components are removed from the solution and allowed to air dry.
- Tubing and Compressor Cleaning: The tubing itself does not require cleaning internally; if necessary, its surface can be wiped regularly. The compressor unit's surface can also be wiped regularly.
- Filter Replacement: The air compressor filter is a critical maintenance item and should be replaced when it turns gray. Additional filters can be purchased from the dealer. Operating the device with a dirty filter or with a filter replaced by unsuitable material (like cotton) can damage the nebulizer. The device should never be operated without a filter.
- Jet Nebulizer Replacement: The jet nebulizer must be changed if it becomes clogged.
- Boiling Restriction: It is important to note that the nebulizer and its accessories must not be boiled.
- Repair and Servicing: Only authorized personnel are permitted to make repairs to this product, ensuring that any servicing is performed correctly and safely.
- Storage: When not in use, the unit should be turned off and unplugged. It should be stored in a location where it cannot fall or be pulled into water or a sink.
The Aeromist Compact® Nebulizer Compressor Kit is a Type BF Equipment with double insulation, designed for indoor use only, and operates on alternating current.
