Overview

The Medline Mobile 100 Recliner is a versatile and comfortable seating solution designed for various environments, offering multiple reclining positions and user-friendly features. This recliner is intended for general seating purposes and provides a range of functionalities to enhance user comfort and convenience.

Function Description

The primary function of the Medline Mobile 100 Recliner is to provide a comfortable and adjustable seating experience. It allows users to recline into multiple positions, including an upright position, a partially reclined position with an elevated footrest, and a fully reclined position. The recliner is equipped with a position lock lever that enables users to secure the backrest in their desired position. This locking mechanism ensures stability and prevents unintended movement, contributing to user safety.

Beyond its reclining capabilities, the Mobile 100 Recliner is designed for mobility, featuring casters that allow for easy movement within a room or facility. Two of these casters are equipped with wheel locks, which are crucial for stabilizing the recliner during transfers or when a stationary position is required. It also includes an articulating headrest, which can be adjusted to provide optimal head and neck support for the occupant.

An optional tray assembly can be attached to the recliner, offering a convenient surface for meals, reading, or other activities. This tray is designed to be easily installed, adjusted, and stored, adding to the recliner's versatility. The overall design emphasizes both user comfort and attendant convenience, making it suitable for environments where patient care and mobility are important considerations.

Usage Features

Operating the Medline Mobile 100 Recliner involves several key features designed for ease of use and safety.

Reclining the Chair: The recliner offers two primary methods for adjusting the backrest:

  • Using the Position Lock Lever: To recline the chair and lock it into a specific position, the user first locates the plunger release knob on the right side of the back frame. Pulling this knob outward and holding it allows the user to pull out the position lock lever. The lever can then be aligned with one of the notches on the inner seat frames to secure the desired recline angle. To readjust, the lock lever is grasped, pulled up to remove it from the studs, adjusted to a new position, and then re-engaged in the notches. This method ensures a stable and locked recline position.
  • Without Using the Position Lock Lever: For a more dynamic recline, the plunger release knob on the back assembly is pulled outward and held. The position lock lever is then pushed up against the back assembly frame and the plunger release knob is released. This action holds the position lock lever in a stored position, preventing it from locking into the studs. While seated, the occupant can then grip the armrests, lean their body weight back, and push forward with their arms to recline the chair. The footrest assembly will automatically elevate as the chair reclines. An attendant can also easily recline the chair from a standing position by grasping an armrest with one hand and the padded push handle with the other, then pushing down on the push handle. It's important that the occupant does not need to exert excessive force to change recline positions; if difficulty is experienced, the position lock lever should be checked.

Positioning the Articulating Headrest: The headrest can be easily adjusted by simply grasping it and pushing or pulling it into the desired position, providing customized support for the user's head and neck.

Locking and Unlocking Rear Wheels: The recliner's mobility is controlled by its rear wheels, which feature lock mechanisms. To engage the wheel locks, the user pushes down on the mechanism. To release them, the other side of the lock mechanism is pushed downward. It is crucial to engage both wheel locks when transferring a user to or from the recliner or when tilting/inclining the chair to prevent unintended movement.

Installing the Tray: The optional tray assembly offers seven adjustable positions, ranging from 9 to 15 inches in 1.5-inch increments. To install the tray, the plunger release knob under the right armrest is pulled down. The tray is then slid away from the chair until the upper alignment rod is out of the frame. The tray is lifted up, rotated over to the opposite arm, and the alignment rod is inserted into the left side frame underneath the armrest. Finally, the alignment rods are pushed completely into the frame until the tray locks into place.

Adjusting the Tray Position: To adjust the tray's height, the plunger release knob below the right armrest is pulled down, and the tray is pushed or pulled to the desired position. It is essential to ensure the tray locks securely in place after adjustment.

Storing/Removing the Tray: To store or remove the tray, the user stands in front of the chair and grasps the front edge of the tray. With the other hand, the plunger release knob below the left armrest is pulled down. For storage, the tray is slid away from the recliner until the left alignment rod is out of the frame, then lifted up, rotated over to the opposite arm, and the alignment rod is inserted into the right side of the frame underneath the right armrest. The alignment rod is then pushed completely into the frame until it locks into place. To remove the tray entirely, it is slid away from the recliner until both alignment rods are out of the frame.

Maintenance Features

Proper maintenance is essential for ensuring the longevity, safety, and optimal performance of the Medline Mobile 100 Recliner.

Safety Inspection Checklist: Regular inspections are recommended to identify and address any wear or damage.

  • General: Annually, verify that the recliner rolls straight without excessive drag or pulling to one side.
  • Seat and Back: Quarterly, inspect for rips, sagging, or any issues with the seat upholstery to ensure it is securely fastened to the seat frame.
  • Casters: Quarterly, inspect the wheel/fork assembly for proper tension by spinning the caster; it should come to a gradual stop. If a wheel wobbles noticeably or binds, the locknut should be loosened or tightened. Casters should be checked periodically for cracks and wear and replaced as needed.
  • Trigger Release Lever Cable: Quarterly, ensure that the cables completely release and the handles return when released.
  • Gas Cylinders: Annually, inspect for any leaking oil from the gas cylinders.
  • Cleaning: Regularly clean the upholstery and armrests.
  • Footrest Guard/Scissor Mechanism Guard: Annually, inspect these guards for any damage, such as tears or cracks. Damaged guards must be replaced immediately, and the recliner should be removed from service until replacements are installed.

Cleaning the Upholstery: The recliner's upholstery can be cleaned using various methods depending on the type and severity of the stain.

  • Ordinary Dirt Stains: Clean with warm water and a mild detergent to remove superficial soil.
  • Ground-in Dirt Stains: Use a soft bristle brush and powdered cleaner or a similar detergent.
  • Tar, Asphalt, or Creosote: These stains should be removed as soon as possible using kerosene or naptha.
  • Chewing Gum: Scrape off carefully, then remove any remaining residue with kerosene or naptha.
  • Paint or Shoe Polish: Remove immediately with a white cloth dampened with kerosene, naptha, or turpentine.
  • Excrement: Remove immediately and clean with a 1:10 mix of bleach and water.

Important Cleaning Precautions: When using kerosene or naptha, exercise caution. Keep these substances away from open flames and heat sources, and use them only in a well-ventilated area. Always follow the cleaning instructions provided with cleaning products. Do not use paint remover or any liquid brush cleaner.

Enhancing Wear Ability: To improve the wear ability of the chair, it is recommended to apply a quality paste wax periodically.

By following these usage and maintenance guidelines, users can ensure the Medline Mobile 100 Recliner remains a safe, functional, and comfortable device for an extended period.
