How to fix soot forming on the viewing glass of my Mendota Stove?
    • T
      thomas94Aug 12, 2025
If a thin black coating (soot) forms on the viewing glass of your Mendota Stove, it could be due to incorrect gas pressure or insufficient combustion air. Have your gas supplier check for correct gas pressure (7" W.C. at Natural Gas; 11" W.C. LP Gas). If sooting continues, open the air shutter on the burner. If sooting still continues, contact your Mendota dealer. To clean the glass, remove it and wipe it with a cloth or paper towel.

If you observe a change in the flame appearance or burner operation of your Mendota Stove, it could be due to a change in gas pressure or the presence of carbon, dirt, or lint. Have your gas supplier check the gas pressure (7" W.C. for Natural gas; 11" W.C. for LP Gas). Clean any carbon, spider webs, or lint from the shutter area. Never block air intake or outlet vents.

Why is my Mendota Stove humming?

A humming or whistling sound coming from your Mendota Stove is often a normal operating noise caused by the gas supply flowing through the gas orifice. This is expected from any gas stove. You can reduce the noise and the heat output of the unit by turning the Hi/Lo Knob on the control to turn down the flame.
