During starting assistance: startthe
engine of thedonor vehicle and runatidle
speed.
#
Connect thenegativepole of thedonor bat‐
tery and ground point 5 of your ownvehicle
by usingthe jumper cable/charging cable.
Begin withthe donor batteryfirst.
#
During starting assistance: startthe
engine of your ownvehicle.
#
During thechargingprocess: startthe
chargingprocess.
#
During starting assistance: letthe engines
runfor severalminutes.
#
During starting assistance: beforediscon‐
necting thejumper cable, switchonanelec‐
trical consumer in your ownvehicle, e.g. the
rear window defrosterorlighting.
When thestartingassistance/charging process
is complete:
#
First,remove thejumper cable/charging
cable from ground point 5 and negative
pole of thedonor battery, then from positive
clamp 4 and positivepole of thedonor bat‐
tery.Begineachtimewiththe contacts on
your ownvehicle first.

Afterremoving thejumper cable/charging
cable, close cover 3 of positiveclamp 4.

Replacing the 12 Vbattery

Observe thenotes on the12Vbattery
(/ page431).
Mercedes-Benz recommends that youhavethe
12 Vbatteryreplaced at aqualified specialist
workshop, e.g. at an authorized Mercedes-Benz
Center.
Observe thefollowing notesifyou want to
replace thebatteryyourself:

Alwaysreplace afaulty battery withabattery
whichmeets thespecific vehicle require‐
ments.
The vehicle is equipped withanAGM technol‐
ogy battery(Absorbent GlassMat)oralith‐
ium-ionbattery. Full vehicle functionality is
onlyguaranteed withanAGM batteryorlith‐
ium-ion battery. Forsafetyreasons,
Mercedes-Benz recommends that youonly
use batteries whichhave been tested and
approvedfor your vehicle by Mercedes-Benz.

Carry overdetachable parts,suchasvent
hoses, elbowfittingorterminal covers from
thebatterybeing replaced.

Makesurethat thevent hose is alwayscon‐
nected to theoriginal opening on theside of
thebattery.
Install anyexisting or supplied cell caps.
Otherwise, gases or batteryacid could
escape.
R
Makesurethat detachable parts arerecon‐
nectedinthe same way.
Towstarting or towing away
Permitted towing methods
Plug-in hybrid: observe thenotes in theSupple‐
ment.Otherwise, youmay fail to recognize dan‐
gers.
