IMPORTANT: Never shift the outboard into gear unless the engine
speed is at idle. Do not shift the outboard into reverse when the
engine is not running. It may damage the shift linkage and possibly
the gear mechanism.

1. Remote control models: While pressing the lock button on the
remote control lever upward, swiftly move the lever to Forward
(F) or Reverse (R) to the detent (approximately 32° forward or
backward from Neutral).
