Overview

The Methven Tahi Shower Mixer (01-6150) is a single-lever shower mixer designed for both domestic and commercial applications. It features a ceramic cartridge for controlling water flow and temperature.

Function Description:

The Tahi Shower Mixer allows users to control both the water flow and temperature for their shower. The single lever handle provides intuitive operation: typically, moving the handle left or right adjusts the temperature from cold to hot, while moving it up or down controls the water flow. The mixer is designed for in-wall installation, with the main body assembly concealed behind the wall and only the faceplate, lever handle, and half-dome visible. It includes features for adjusting both flow limiting and mix temperature limiting, allowing for customization and energy efficiency.

Installation:

Installation involves several steps to ensure proper function and a watertight seal:

  1. Body Assembly: The body assembly cover is removed, and the body assembly (1) is screwed into the mounting stud. It is then plumbed into the water system. The cover is replaced after plumbing but before wall surface finishing (tiling).
  2. Mounting Distance: The minimum distance from the mounting stud to the front wall lining must be 56mm, with a maximum of 67mm (optimum) to accommodate the mixer.
  3. Hole Diameter: A 102mm diameter hole is required in the wall for correct mixer installation.
  4. Faceplate Installation: The faceplate (2) is placed over the mixer body and fitted flush with the wall surface. A bead of clear silicone sealant is recommended on the back of the faceplate before fixing it to the finished wall surface.
  5. Securing Faceplate: The faceplate (2) is screwed into the fixing ring using the screws (3) taken from the body assembly cover.
  6. O-ring and Half Dome: The O-ring (4) and half dome (5) are placed over the body assembly.
  7. Handle Installation: The lever handle (6) is fitted, and the grub screw is fastened with a 2.5mm hex key (8).
  8. Watertight Seal: It is crucial for the installer to ensure a waterproof seal between the faceplate and the finished wall surface. If there is any doubt about the seal quality, the faceplate should be removed and reinstalled with silicone.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Inlet Connections: All 1/2" BSP.
  • Operating Pressure: 150kPa - 500kPa. For optimal performance, hot and cold water pressures should be equal. AS/NZS 3500 stipulates a 500kPa maximum operating pressure at any outlet within a building. If normal pressure exceeds 500kPa, a pressure limiting valve must be installed.
  • Operating Temperature: Recommended hot water supply is 50°C, with a maximum of 70°C. AS/NZS 3500 requires all hot water supplies to any sanitary fitting to be tempered to 50°C.
  • Ceramic Cartridge: The mixer utilizes a ceramic cartridge for water control. It is factory set for maximum temperature.
  • Compliance: This product complies with AS/NZS 3718 regulations.
  • Installation: Methven recommends a licensed plumber carry out all installations in compliance with the requirements of AS/NZS 3500.

Usage Features:

  • Single Lever Control: Easy adjustment of water flow and temperature with one lever.
  • Flow Limiting Adjustment: The mixer allows for adjustment of the maximum water flow, which can be set using a 1.5mm Allen Key. This feature helps conserve water.
  • Mix Temperature Limiting Adjustment: The maximum hot water temperature can be limited, enhancing safety and preventing scalding. This is also adjusted using an Allen Key.
  • Concealed Design: The in-wall installation provides a clean, minimalist aesthetic in the shower area.

Maintenance Features:

  • Ceramic Cartridge: The ceramic cartridge is durable and designed for long-lasting performance. It should not be removed from the body while making adjustments.
  • Cleaning: The product should be cleaned regularly with contamination-free warm soapy water and a damp soft cloth. Abrasives should never be used, as they can damage the finish and void the warranty.
  • Piping Requirements: To prevent damage to the ceramic cartridge and ensure proper function, restrictive piping, fittings, or sharp-angled bends should be avoided when plumbing the mixer.
  • Flushing Pipework: All pipework must be thoroughly flushed prior to installation to prevent foreign particles from damaging the ceramic cartridge.
  • Filter Washers: Inline filter washers must be installed on both hot and cold supplies to prevent foreign particles from damaging the ceramic cartridge.
  • Hydrostatic Testing: The installation should not be hydrostatically tested with this mixer installed, as this can damage the ceramic cartridge and void the warranty. Hydrostatic testing refers to placing the system under pressure above the recommended operating pressure to determine watertightness and uncover leaks.

Warranty:

Domestic and commercial warranty terms and conditions vary. Refer to the Methven website for full warranty terms and conditions. Warranty claims will be void if the ceramic cartridge malfunctions due to the presence of foreign objects in the water supply, such as copper tube pieces, plastic pieces, sand, dirt, stones, thread tape, or other objects not normally present in potable water supplies. Damage caused by hydrostatic testing is not covered by Methven's warranty. The warranty is issued by Methven Australia Pty Ltd.
