Overview

The Metro Mobility Patriot is a mobility scooter designed for individuals with walking difficulties, intended for comfortable transport of one person. It is classified as a non-medical device and is not meant to diagnose, treat, or alleviate any medical condition or disability.

Function Description:

The Patriot scooter provides personal mobility for users up to 136kg (300lbs). It is equipped with a tiller control box that houses all drive controls, including a battery gauge, speed knob, throttle control lever, light switch, and horn button. The scooter operates on a 24VDC (2 units) power system, with a continuous operation classification. It features an adjustable tiller for comfortable driving and easy folding for transportation and stowage. The seat is removable and adjustable for height and armrest position. The scooter has a freewheel mechanism to allow for manual operation when the motor is disengaged. It also includes automatic braking, which engages within half a tire rotation upon release of the throttle. For safety, the scooter has a "sleep timer" feature that activates after 15 minutes of inactivity to preserve battery power.

Usage Features:

  • Speed Control: A preset speed knob allows users to adjust the maximum speed. Turning left reduces speed, turning right increases it.
  • Throttle Control: A lever controls both forward and reverse motion. PULLING with the RIGHT hand or PUSHING with the LEFT THUMB moves the scooter FORWARD. PULLING with the LEFT HAND or PUSHING with the RIGHT THUMB moves it in REVERSE. The lever returns to neutral when released, causing the scooter to slow to a stop.
  • Lighting: A blue button on the front fascia panel operates the lights, enhancing visibility in low-light conditions.
  • Horn: A horn button provides an audible warning sound for pedestrians.
  • Key Switch: The key switch turns the scooter ON and OFF. The key cannot be removed when in the ON position. Turning the key to OFF while driving will cause an abrupt stop, recommended only for emergencies to prevent damage.
  • Battery Gauge: An illuminated gauge indicates battery charge, ranging from "RED" (empty/charge required) to "GREEN" (charged).
  • Charging Socket: Located on the battery pack, the socket is used to connect the charger. A plastic swivel cover protects the connections from water.
  • Freewheel Mechanism: A lever on the right-hand side of the scooter's rear panel disengages the motor for manual movement. Pushing the lever backward engages the motor for driving. The scooter should be powered off when moving the lever.
  • Seat Adjustment: Armrests can be lifted for easier access to the seat lever. The backrest folds down, and the seat can be lifted vertically after pulling the seat lever up. Seat height is adjusted by changing the seat post position and refitting a detent pin. Armrests can be moved to desired positions by loosening and re-tightening adjustable screws.
  • Tiller Adjustment: An infinitely adjustable tiller can be locked in various positions for comfort or folded down for transportation and stowage using a folding knob at the bottom of the tiller.
  • Transportation: The scooter can be disassembled by removing the basket, seat, seat post, and lowering the tiller. Lifting handles are provided for safe loading into a vehicle.

Maintenance Features:

  • Daily Checks: Inspect the battery charge indicator on the tiller before use.
  • Weekly Checks: Clean panels, battery wells, tiller, and seat with a damp soft cloth and mild detergent. Inspect tires for debris, oil, deep cuts, or distortion. Ensure batteries are charged for a minimum of 8 hours.
  • Quarterly Checks: Verify that tire tread is visible and continuous.
  • Annual Service: Full service by a dealer, including inspection of seat swivel and slide, wiring and connectors for chafing/wear, battery terminals, parking brake, stabilizer wheels, and motor brushes.
  • Storage: For long-term storage (over one month), charge batteries for 8 hours and then disconnect them to minimize discharge.
  • Battery Care: Use only original chargers from Metro Mobility. Charge batteries in a well-ventilated area on a hard surface, avoiding outdoor conditions, naked flames, and freezing temperatures. Do not short-circuit terminals. Charge for 8-10 hours before first-time use and avoid interrupting the charging cycle. Recharge when the battery indicator shows low, but avoid daily charging if not needed.
  • Fuse: A reset button on the battery pack will pop out if a fault occurs. The scooter has a 5A fuse on the positive battery terminal, a 2.5A fuse in the charger, and a 2A fuse in the main plug of the battery charger. Fuses must be replaced by an authorized service agent.
  • Tires: The scooter has solid tires, which should be inspected regularly for damage or wear.
  • Electronic Faults: Do not attempt to investigate faults in the control box, control pod, or charger. Spare parts and services are available from authorized dealers.
  • LED Replacement: Disconnect batteries before changing LEDs.
  • Wheels: Wheels should only be removed and refitted by an authorized dealer.
