Do you have a question about the METRON QA-ST MKII and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The QA-ST MKII Electrical Safety Tester (US Model) is a device designed for performing electrical safety tests on various equipment. It is manufactured by Fluke Electronics Corporation, Biomedical Systems (METRON Product Group).

Function Description

The QA-ST MKII is an electrical safety tester that performs tests in accordance with several electrical safety standards. It measures various electrical parameters to ensure the safety of a Device Under Test (DUT). The device supports both manual and automated testing.

Key tests performed by the QA-ST MKII include:

  • Mains Voltage Test: Measures the mains voltage in volts between Live and Neutral.
  • Protective Earth Test: Measures the resistance in milliohms between the enclosure of the DUT and the Earth contact on the front outlet.
  • Earth Leakage Current Test: Measures the current in microamps passing through the Earth lead under various power conditions (Normal Condition, Open Neutral, Reverse Mains).
  • Enclosure Leakage Current Test: Measures the leakage current in microamps between the enclosure of the DUT and the Earth contact on the front outlet under various power conditions (Open Earth, Open Neutral, Reverse Mains, Open Earth Reverse Mains, Open Neutral Reverse Mains).
  • Patient Leakage Current Lead-to-Ground Test: Measures the current in microamps from the patient leads to Ground. This test can display the leakage for all leads in parallel or for individual patient leads to Ground. It supports AC/DC measurements and various power conditions (Open Earth, Open Neutral, Reverse Mains, Open Earth Reverse Mains, Open Neutral Reverse Mains).
  • Patient Leakage Current Lead-to-Lead Test: Measures the current in microamps from a selected patient lead to all other patient leads in parallel. It supports AC/DC measurements and various power conditions (Open Earth, Open Neutral, Reverse Mains, Open Earth Reverse Mains, Open Neutral Reverse Mains).
  • Mains on Applied Part Test: Measures the current in microamps from the patient leads to Ground when the patient leads are excited by 110% of mains voltage. This test is performed by pressing and holding the "lead ISO" button.

The device features an LCD display (122 x 32 pixels) for showing measurement results and test selections. It has a keypad for display control and test selection.

Usage Features

The QA-ST MKII can be used for both manual and automated testing.

Manual Testing Setup:

  1. Plug the unit into a wall outlet.
  2. Confirm that only the two lights in the inlet power indicator are illuminated. If not, check the wall outlet for grounding or polarity issues. Note: Do not use extension cords or power strips.
  3. Connect the test cable to the "Enclosure" port.
  4. Connect the test cable clamp to the metal enclosure of the DUT.
  5. Connect patient leads to the "Patient leads" ports in numerical order.
  6. Proceed with the desired electrical safety tests.

Automated Testing Setup:

  1. Follow all steps for manual testing.
  2. Connect one end of a NULL-modem cable to the RS-232 port on the left side of the QA-ST MKII.
  3. Connect the other end of the NULL-modem cable to an applicable COM port on a computer.
  4. Consult the ansur test executive User Manual and the ansur QA-ST Plug-In User Manual for instructions on building and executing automated test templates.
  5. Perform the electrical safety tests.

Test Selection and Options:

  • AC/DC Measurement Selection: Press the "AC/DC" button to switch between AC and DC measurements when available.
  • Open Earth (OE) Test: Press the "open gnd" button to break the Earth power line connection to the DUT.
  • Open Neutral (ON) Test: Press the "open neutral" button to break the Neutral/L2 power line connection to the DUT.
  • Reverse Mains (RM) Test: Press the "rev. pol" button to reverse the Live/L1 and Neutral/L2 connections to the DUT.
  • Warning: When testing units with large inductive loads (motors), always turn OFF the DUT BEFORE reversing Mains.

The device provides clear labels for each test and measurement result on its display, such as "Mains Voltage," "Protective Earth," "Earth Leakage Current," "Enclosure Leakage Current," and "Patient Leakage Current."

Maintenance Features

The manual does not explicitly detail maintenance features but provides a limited warranty and general information.

  • Limited Warranty: METRON warrants the QA-ST MKII to conform to published specifications for twelve (12) months from the date of purchase. During this period, defective simulators due to manufacturing defects will be replaced or repaired.
  • Safety Notice: Users are reminded that voltages up to 300 Vac may be present in test leads, outlets, and the DUT enclosure during testing, emphasizing the need for applicable electrical safety measures.
  • Support: Customer support and service contact information (phone and email) are provided for both US and international customers.

Standard accessories include a User Manual (on CD), a test lead, and 10 universal snap-to-banana adapters. Optional accessories like carrying cases (soft and hard), a Kelvin cable test lead, and the ansur QA-ST Plug-In for automated testing are also available.
