Intheeventofacollision,theairbagcontrolunitmonitors
therateofdecelerationoraccelerationinducedbythe
collision,todeterminewhethertheairbagsshouldbe
deployed.Airbagdeploymentisvirtuallyinstantaneous
andoccurswithconsiderableforce,accompaniedbya
loudnoise.
Providedthefrontseatoccupantsarecorrectlyseatedand
withseatbeltsproperlyworn,theairbagswillprovide
additionalprotectiontothechestandfacialareasinthe
eventofthecarreceivingaseverefrontalimpact.
Sideairbagsandsideheadimpactprotectionairbagsare
designedtoofferadditionalprotectiontothesideofthe
bodyfacingtheimpact,ifaseveresidecollisionoccurs.
IMPORTANT
•Airbagscannotprotectlowerbodypartsof
passengers.
•Airbagsarenotdesignedforrearcollision,minor
frontalorsideimpacts,orifthevehicleoverturns;
norwillitoperateasaresultofheavybraking.
•Deploymentandretractionofthefrontalandside
airbagstakesplaceveryquicklyandwillnotprotect
againsttheeffectsofsecondaryimpactsthatmay
occur.
•Whenanairbaginates,anepowderisreleased.
Thisisnotanindicationofamalfunction,however,
thepowdermaycauseirritationtotheskinand
shouldbethoroughlyushedfromtheeyesandany
cutsorabrasionsoftheskin.
•Afterination,frontandsideairbagsdeate
immediately.Thisprovidesagradualcushioning
effectfortheoccupantandalsoensuresthatthe
driver'sforwardvisionisnotobscured.
