Overview

The MECHATROLINK I/O Module, model R7G4HML-6-SVF8N, is a high-speed DC voltage input device designed for industrial automation applications. It features a 6-channel, 17-bit input, and screw terminal block connections.

Function Description

The module serves as an interface for high-speed DC voltage input signals within a MECHATROLINK network. It allows for the acquisition of analog voltage data from various sensors and devices, converting these signals into a digital format for processing by a master controller. The module supports both MECHATROLINK-I and MECHATROLINK-II communication protocols, offering flexibility in system integration. It can operate in either 17-byte or 32-byte mode, depending on the chosen MECHATROLINK version and desired data resolution.

The module's input channels are designed to handle a range of DC voltages, typically from -10V to +10V, 0V to +10V, -5V to +5V, 0V to +5V, and 1V to 5V, configurable via DIP switches. Each channel provides 17-bit resolution, ensuring high precision in voltage measurement. The module also includes diagnostic features such as input range error detection and ADC error detection, which are communicated through status bits.

  • Connections: Screw terminal blocks for power and input signals, MECHATROLINK cable connections.
  • Weight: Not specified.

Usage Features

Installation and Mounting: The module offers versatile mounting options:

  • DIN Rail Mounting (Parallel): Involves hooking the upper part of the unit onto the DIN rail and pushing the lower part until it clicks. Disassembly requires using a screwdriver to disengage the lower hook.
  • DIN Rail Mounting (Right Angle): Requires inserting the longer DIN rail mount slider until it clicks twice, then hooking the upper part and pushing the lower part.
  • Surface Mounting: Involves inserting two DIN rail mount sliders and securing the unit with M4 screws (Torque: 1.4 N·m).

Wiring:

  • Terminal Connections: The module uses screw terminal blocks for power (24V DC) and input signals (V0-V7). MECHATROLINK connections are internal to the connector.
  • Wiring Instructions: Use wiring screws for separable terminals with a torque of 0.5 N·m. For solderless terminals, use recommended ring tongue terminal sizes (AWG #22 to #16) and a recommended manufacturer (Japan Solderless Terminal MFG. Co., Ltd, Nichifu Co., Ltd).
  • Separable Terminals: The terminal block can be removed by loosening two screws, facilitating easier wiring.

Configuration:

  • DIP Switches: Station address and input range are configured using DIP switches on the module. The station address can be set from 0 to 15 (hexadecimal 0H to FH). Input range options include -10 to +10V DC, 0 to +10V DC, -5 to +5V DC, 0 to +5V DC, and 1 to 5V DC.
  • PC Configurator: For detailed parameter settings, a PC configurator software (model R7CFG) is used. This allows for fine-tuning of parameters such as bias, gain, zero scale, full scale, and averaging.
  • MECHATROLINK Mode: The module supports MECHATROLINK-I and MECHATROLINK-II, with specific DIP switch settings for each mode and data byte configuration (17-byte or 32-byte).

Operation:

  • Status Indicators: LEDs provide visual feedback on the module's status: PWR (Green for power on), ERR (Red for blinking on error), SD (Green for data transmission), and RD (Green for data reception).
  • Data Representation: Input data is represented in 16-bit binary, with negative values in 2's complements. 8-bit unsigned binary data is used for MECHATROLINK-I or MECHATROLINK-II in 17-byte mode.
  • Error Detection: The module can detect input range errors (e.g., input exceeding ±15% or ±115% of the nominal range) and ADC errors. These errors are communicated through specific bits in the status data.

Maintenance Features

General Precautions:

  • Safety: Always remove power before wiring or touching terminals to prevent electric shock. Ensure proper grounding.
  • Power Supply: Do not set the switches on the module while power is supplied. The switches are used only for maintenance without the power.
  • Environment: Protect the unit from heavy dust or metal particles, which can lead to malfunction. Avoid installing the unit where it is subject to continuous vibration. Maintain the operating temperature and humidity within specified limits.

Wiring Maintenance:

  • Cable Routing: Do not install cables close to noise sources (relay drive cable, high frequency line, etc.).
  • Terminal Tightening: Periodically check and re-tighten terminal screws to prevent loose connections.
  • Cover Security: Ensure the terminal cover is securely in place.

Troubleshooting:

  • Status LEDs: Use the PWR, ERR, SD, and RD LEDs to quickly diagnose basic operational issues.
  • Alarm Codes: The module provides alarm codes (e.g., 00H for normal status, 01H for invalid command, 02H for command not allowed, 03H for invalid data, 04H for synchronization error) that can be read by the master controller to identify specific problems.
  • Status Bits: Detailed status bits (STATUS1, STATUS2) provide information on input range errors, ADC errors, and other operational conditions for each channel.
  • Module Replacement: The unit is designed to function for at least 8,000 hours, but periodic maintenance or replacement may be required for satisfactory performance in demanding environments.
