Overview

The Michelin MEMS Evolution 4 Active Antenna, part number CAI 960299, is a crucial component in the Michelin MEMS (Michelin Earthmover Management System) for improving efficiency in earthmoving operations. This device is designed to receive pressure and temperature data from MEMS sensors, which is then forwarded to the MEMS Evolution Transceiver. This information is vital for identifying potential issues and taking corrective action to maximize the service life of tires on heavy machinery.

Function Description:

The primary function of the Active Antenna is to act as a receiver for data transmitted wirelessly from MEMS sensors. These sensors are typically integrated into tires to monitor critical parameters like pressure and temperature. By continuously receiving this data, the system can provide real-time insights into tire health and performance. The antenna operates on an RX frequency of 433.92MHz within the ISM band, ensuring reliable communication with the sensors. The collected data is then relayed to the MEMS Evolution Transceiver, which processes the information and can trigger alerts or recommendations for maintenance, ultimately contributing to improved operational efficiency and reduced downtime.

Usage Features:

The MEMS Evolution 4 Active Antenna is designed for integration into vehicles, where it will continuously monitor tire data. Its robust IP66 sealing ensures reliable operation in harsh environments typical of earthmoving applications, protecting it from dust, dirt, and water. The wide operating temperature range further enhances its suitability for diverse climatic conditions. The CAN Bus connection allows for seamless integration with existing vehicle communication systems, facilitating the transmission of data to the MEMS Evolution Transceiver and other relevant vehicle systems. The antenna is part of a larger system aimed at proactive tire management, enabling operators and maintenance personnel to make informed decisions to optimize tire life and overall operational efficiency.

Maintenance Features:

While the document primarily focuses on the antenna's function and specifications, it also provides crucial information regarding its end-of-life management and installation.

  • Installation: For detailed installation and security guidelines, users are directed to the "MEMS 4 Hardware Installation & Maintenance Guide." Proper installation is critical for the antenna's optimal performance and longevity.
  • Disposal: The MEMS Evolution 4 Active Antenna must not be disposed of in landfill. At the end of its life, it must be removed from the vehicle and placed in a container specifically designated for the recycling of electronic equipment. Michelin emphasizes responsible recycling and offers assistance to users who may not have access to appropriate recycling facilities by providing a container for collecting MEMS equipment. This commitment to environmental responsibility aligns with modern waste management practices for electronic devices.
  • Regulatory Compliance: The device adheres to various international standards, including FCC, CE, and RoHS, which ensures its safety, electromagnetic compatibility, and environmental friendliness. Users are advised to consult the provided FCC warnings regarding changes or modifications not expressly approved by Michelin, as such actions could void the user's authority to operate the equipment. The EU Conformity Statement also highlights compliance with directives such as EMC 2014/30/EU, LVD 2014/35/EU, and RoHS 2011/65/EU, further underscoring its adherence to strict regulatory requirements. The WEEE directive (2012/19/EU) symbol indicates that the product should not be disposed of as unsorted municipal waste and should be returned for proper recycling.

In summary, the Michelin MEMS Evolution 4 Active Antenna is a robust, reliable, and essential component for advanced tire management in earthmoving operations. Its technical specifications, environmental resilience, and adherence to regulatory standards make it a key tool for improving efficiency and extending the lifespan of valuable tire assets.
