Descaling the machine
The machine should be descaled regularly
(depending on the hardness of the water) to ensure
that it works properly. The message Descaling will
appear in the display window when descaling
becomes necessary.
To prevent damage, descaling must be done as
soon as the Descaling message appears.
The machine can still be operated without de-
scaling when this message appears, but if left
damage could occur.
Only use a citric acid based descaling agent. Do
not use anything else, including powder deter-
gent, vinegar, or formic acid, as these could
damage the machine and cause an unpleasant
odor and taste.
Please follow the instructions on the descaling
agent carefully and use the exact proportions
recommended to avoid machine damage.
Allow the machine to cool before descaling and
remove the steam spout cover of the milk
foamer, as this could be damaged by the descal-
ing agent.
Open the front of the machine.
Remove the water container and fill it half way
with the correct solution of descaler and warm
water as indicated on the descaling agent pack-
age. The water temperature must not exceed 122
°F (50 °C).
Close the lid of the water container and place it in
the appliance.
Close the front of the machine.
The descaling process can now be carried out
using the Descaling program or manually.
