The Milwaukee M18 F2LM21 is an M18 FUEL™ 533 MM (21") self-propelled dual battery lawn mower designed for efficient lawn care. This operator's manual provides essential information for safe and effective use, assembly, operation, and maintenance of the device.
The M18 F2LM21 lawn mower is a battery-operated, self-propelled cutting machine designed to trim grass. It operates using two M18™ battery packs, providing a cordless solution for lawn maintenance. The self-propelled feature assists the user by moving the mower forward, reducing physical effort. It includes a cutting blade that rotates to cut grass, and various discharge attachments (grass bag, mulch plug, rear side discharge chute) allow for different methods of handling grass clippings. The mower is equipped with LED lights for improved visibility and a fuel gauge to monitor battery charge.
Assembly and Setup: The handle of the lawn mower can be unfolded and folded for storage and transport. To unfold, turn both handle height locking pins to the unlock position, lift the handle to an upright position, align it with one of the three upright position holes, and then turn the locking pins to the lock position. For folding, reverse these steps and remove battery packs beforehand.
The blade height can be adjusted using a lever, with increments of 13 mm, to suit different lawn conditions. Always remove battery packs before adjusting blade height.
Discharge attachments include a mulch plug, grass bag, and rear side discharge chute. The mulch plug is used unless another attachment is in use. To install the mulch plug, remove battery packs, lift the rear door, slide the plug into the mower body, and lower the rear door. To remove, lift the rear door and pull the plug away.
For grass bagging, remove the mulch plug, lift the rear door, place the grass bag onto the mower so its metal hooks rest on the metal bar, and then lower the grass bag and rear door. To remove, lift the rear door and pull the bag up and away.
For rear side discharge, remove the mulch plug, lift the rear door, align the center notch of the discharge chute with the one on the mower housing, slide the chute into the body until the white embossed arrows align, gently push down to seat it, and lower the rear door. To remove, lift the rear door and pull the chute away.
Battery Insertion and Removal: The mower requires two charged M18™ battery packs to operate. To insert, slide the packs into the mower body until they latch securely. To remove, push the release buttons and pull the packs away. The mower will not function with only one battery pack or if one pack is completely discharged.
Operation: To start the blade, pull and hold the bail bar against the handle, then press the Start Blade button. The blade will start, and the button will lock inward. To stop the blade, release the bail bar.
The self-propelled feature is engaged by pressing down on the self-propelled paddle. Pressing less results in a slower speed, while pressing more increases speed, up to the maximum set by the self-propelled speed dial. Releasing the paddle disengages the self-propelled feature. The self-propel feature can be used for maneuvering even when the blade is not running.
The self-propelled speed dial allows setting the maximum speed from 1 (minimum) to 5 (maximum). Start at a low speed and be prepared for sudden changes when adjusting.
The High Lift mode increases blade speed for enhanced air flow and lift, improving bagging or mulching. Press the High Lift Mode button to toggle ON/OFF; an LED indicates when it's active.
LED lights can be toggled ON/OFF for improved visibility, especially in low light conditions.
Safety Guidelines: Always read and understand the operator's manual before use. Wear eye protection and appropriate footwear (long pants and boots). Keep hands and feet away from blades and discharge openings. Do not direct discharge material toward anyone. Avoid mowing in reverse unless necessary. Maintain proper footing and walk, never run. Be aware of holes, ruts, bumps, rocks, and other hidden hazards. Stop the blade when crossing gravel drives, paths, or roads, or if someone enters the area. If the mower strikes a foreign object or vibrates abnormally, stop the motor, remove battery packs, inspect for damage, and repair before restarting. Shut off the motor and wait for the blade to stop before removing the grass bag or unclogging the chute.
Slope Operation: Exercise extreme caution on slopes. Mow across slopes, not up and down, and avoid steep slopes. Change direction slowly and gradually. Maintain sure footing and release the bail lever immediately if losing balance. Do not mow near drop-offs, ditches, or embankments. Avoid operating in conditions where traction, steering, or stability is compromised. A heavy grass bag can affect stability on slopes.
General Maintenance: Regularly inspect the blade, assembly, and adjustment bolts/fasteners for tightness. Check the grass bag frequently for wear and deterioration, replacing as needed. Do not wash the mower with a hose; avoid getting water into the mower and electrical connections. Remove batteries before performing maintenance, assembly, adjustment, cleaning, or unclogging. Keep cutting edges sharp and clean for best performance. Use only identical MILWAUKEE® replacement blades.
Blade Maintenance: Use caution when servicing blades; wrap the blade(s) or wear gloves. Replace damaged blades; do not repair or alter blade mounting holes. Sharpen dull blades equally at both ends to maintain balance. Clean the blade thoroughly and check its balance by supporting it horizontally on a nail through its center hole. If one end rotates downward, remove metal from the heavier end until balanced. Replace bent or cracked blades. An unbalanced blade can cause vibration and damage.
Cleaning: Clean dust and debris from vents. Keep the mower clean, dry, and free of oil or grease. Use only mild soap and a damp cloth. Avoid cleaning agents and solvents that are harmful to plastics, such as gasoline, turpentine, lacquer thinner, paint thinner, chlorinated cleaning solvents, ammonia, and household detergents. Do not wash with a hose or use flammable/combustible solvents.
Storage: When not in use, store the lawn mower indoors in a dry, locked-up place, out of reach of children. Remove batteries for storage. If storing in an upright position, ensure both handle adjustment knobs are in the locked position with pins engaged.
Repairs: For repairs, return the lawn mower to the nearest authorized service center. Never disassemble the lawn mower, battery pack, or charger. Contact a MILWAUKEE® service facility for all repairs. If the mower does not start or operate at full power with a fully charged battery pack, clean the battery pack contacts. If issues persist, return the mower to a MILWAUKEE® service facility.
