Overview

The Milwaukee M18™ Compact Brushless Drill/Driver (Cat. No. M18 CBLDD) is a versatile power tool designed for drilling and driving applications. It is part of the M18™ battery platform, offering cordless operation and brushless motor technology for enhanced performance and durability.

Function Description:

This tool serves as both a drill and a driver, capable of making holes in various materials and driving screws. Its compact design makes it suitable for working in confined spaces. The brushless motor provides efficient power delivery and extends the tool's lifespan.

    • Clutch Setting 13-18: 4.9-5.6 Nm (or small screws in hardwood)

Usage Features:

The M18 CBLDD offers several features to enhance usability and control:

  • Keyless Chuck: Allows for quick and easy bit changes without the need for a chuck key. The chuck features a spindle lock and a ratcheting sound when tightened, indicating a secure grip on the bit.
  • Torque Selector Collar: Enables the user to select between drilling mode (represented by a drill symbol) and various clutch settings (1-18) for driving screws. The adjustable clutch prevents over-driving screws and damage to materials or the tool.
  • Speed Selector: Located on top of the motor housing, this selector allows switching between "1" (Low speed, 0-500 RPM) and "2" (High speed, 0-1800 RPM). It is recommended to allow the tool to come to a complete stop before changing speeds.
  • Control Switch: This three-position switch controls forward (clockwise), reverse (counterclockwise), and lock functions. The switch can only be adjusted when the ON/OFF trigger is not pressed. The lock position prevents unintentional starting and is recommended when performing maintenance, changing accessories, storing the tool, or when the tool is not in use.
  • Trigger with Variable Speed: The trigger allows for variable speed control; increasing pressure on the trigger increases the speed. An LED light is activated when the trigger is pulled, illuminating the work area.
  • Belt Hook: Provides convenient temporary storage of the tool when not in use.
  • Bit Holder: Integrated for storing bits directly on the tool.
  • Battery System: Utilizes the M18™ battery packs, which are interchangeable with other M18™ tools. The battery pack is inserted by sliding it into the tool body until it latches securely and removed by pressing the release buttons.
  • Drilling Applications:
    • Wood, Composition Materials, and Plastic: Use the drill-only operating mode. Start slowly and gradually increase speed. Use wood augers or twist drill bits for wood. For plastics, use low speeds.
    • Metal: Use the drill-only operating mode. Use high-speed steel twist drills or hole saws. Lubricate drill bits with cutting oil for iron or steel, and coolant for nonferrous metals.
  • Driving Screws and Nut Running: Drill a pilot hole for thick or hard materials. Set the torque selector collar to the proper position and the speed to low. Use the appropriate screwdriver bit for the screw type. Apply firm pressure before pulling the trigger. Screws can be removed by reversing the motor.

Maintenance Features:

Proper maintenance is crucial for the longevity and safe operation of the M18 CBLDD.

  • General Maintenance: Keep the tool, battery pack, and charger in good repair. Regularly inspect for issues such as undue noise, misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage, or any other condition that may affect operation.
  • Cleaning: Clean dust and debris from vents. Keep handles clean, dry, and free of oil or grease. Use only mild soap and a damp cloth for cleaning. Avoid using gasoline, turpentine, lacquer thinner, paint thinner, chlorinated cleaning solvents, ammonia, or household detergents containing ammonia, as these can harm plastics and insulated parts. Never immerse the tool, battery pack, or charger in liquid.
  • Battery Contact Cleaning: If the tool does not start or operate at full power with a fully charged battery pack, clean the contacts on the battery pack.
  • Professional Service: For all repairs, return the tool, battery pack, and charger to an authorized MILWAUKEE® service facility. Never attempt to service damaged battery packs yourself. It is recommended to return the tool, battery pack, and charger for inspection every six months to a year, depending on use.
  • Accessory Use: Only use accessories specifically recommended by Milwaukee to avoid hazards.

Safety Warnings:

Users are advised to read and understand the operator's manual to reduce the risk of injury. Key safety warnings include:

  • Always wear eye protection and other personal protective equipment.
  • Ensure the work area is clean, well-lit, and free of children and bystanders.
  • Avoid operating in explosive atmospheres.
  • Disconnect the battery pack before making adjustments, changing accessories, or storing the tool.
  • Hold the tool by insulated gripping surfaces when cutting near hidden wiring.
  • Do not overreach and maintain proper footing and balance.
  • Dress properly, keeping hair and clothing away from moving parts.
  • Use dust extraction solutions in applications that produce significant dust.
  • Be aware of chemicals in dust from construction activities (e.g., lead, crystalline silica, arsenic, chromium) and work in well-ventilated areas with approved safety equipment.
  • Do not expose battery packs to fire or excessive temperature.
  • Do not use damaged or modified battery packs.
  • Recharge battery packs only with the specified charger.
