Overview

This document describes the Milwaukee MX FUEL™ Li-Ion Battery Packs, providing essential safety, operational, and maintenance information. These battery packs are designed for use with Milwaukee MX FUEL™ products and are shipped in "sleep" mode, requiring an initial charge before first use.

Function Description

The Milwaukee MX FUEL™ Li-Ion Battery Packs serve as the power source for compatible Milwaukee MX FUEL™ products. They are equipped with an intelligent circuit that monitors current draw and temperature to protect the battery from damage and extend its lifespan. A built-in fuel gauge allows users to determine the remaining runtime by pressing a button, with lights indicating the charge level. The battery packs are designed for robust performance, even in demanding conditions.

Important Technical Specifications

    • 77-100%
    • Less than 10%: First light flashes 4 times.
    • 0% charge: First light flashes 8 times.

Usage Features

Safety First:

  • Always read and understand all instructions to prevent electric shock, fire, or personal injury.
  • Use only recommended Milwaukee Li-Ion battery packs with Milwaukee Li-Ion products. Avoid counterfeit or aftermarket batteries/chargers.
  • Do not wire a battery pack to a power supply plug or car cigarette lighter.
  • Avoid dangerous environments: Do not charge in rain, snow, damp, or wet locations. Do not use in explosive atmospheres (gaseous fumes, dust, or flammable materials).
  • Charge in a well-ventilated area, keeping charger vents clear. Do not smoke or use open flames near a charging battery pack.
  • Do not burn or incinerate battery packs, as they may explode and release toxic fumes.
  • Do not crush, drop, or damage the battery pack. Securely contain battery packs during transport. Do not use or charge damaged or swollen batteries.
  • Do not disassemble the battery pack; take it to a Milwaukee service facility if damaged.
  • Battery chemicals are corrosive; avoid contact with skin, eyes, or mouth. If exposed, wash skin with soap and water and rinse with vinegar; flush eyes with water for 20 minutes and seek medical attention. Dispose of contaminated clothing.
  • Do not short circuit the battery pack. Keep metal objects (coins, keys, nails) away from contacts.
  • Do not allow corrosive or conductive fluids (seawater, industrial chemicals, bleach) to flow into the battery pack, as this can cause a short circuit.
  • Do not hold or carry the battery pack by the accessory handle when installed in a tool.
  • Always ship Li-Ion batteries in accordance with current regulations for the chosen mode of transport (ground, air, sea). Consult Milwaukee or a Dangerous Goods professional if in doubt.
  • Do not charge non-rechargeable batteries.

Operation:

  • Initial Use: New batteries must be charged before first use. The tool is shipped in "sleep" mode.
  • Fuel Gauge: Press the fuel gauge button to display the remaining runtime. Lights illuminate for 2-3 seconds. If less than 10% charge remains, the first light flashes 4 times. At 0% charge, the first light flashes 8 times.
  • Post-Use Charge Display: Immediately after using, the fuel gauge may display a lower charge than it will a few minutes later, as battery cells "recover" some charge after resting.
  • Over-Temperature Protection: If the internal temperature becomes too high, the fuel gauge lights will flash in an alternating pattern, and the product will not run. Allow the battery to cool down.
  • Battery Pack Protection: In high torque, binding, stalling, or short circuit situations, the battery pack will turn OFF the product if current draw is too high. The fuel gauge will flash. Release the trigger, wait for the fuel gauge to stop flashing, and then restart.
  • Cold Weather Operation: Milwaukee Li-Ion battery packs are designed to operate in temperatures below freezing. If the battery pack is too cold, it may need to warm up before normal use. Place it on a product and use it in a light application.
  • Shipping Switch: The fuel gauge will not work when the shipping switch is pulled out of a battery with a shipping switch.

Maintenance Features

Storage:

  • Store battery packs and chargers in a cool, dry place.
  • Avoid storing where temperatures exceed 50°C (120°F), such as in direct sunlight, a vehicle, or a metal building during summer.
  • Store at room temperature away from moisture, with batteries upright.
  • Avoid damp locations to prevent terminal corrosion.
  • Long-term storage in high temperatures (over 49°C) can result in permanent capacity loss.
  • Charge batteries before use after long storage periods.

Cleaning:

  • Do not expose battery packs or cordless products to water or rain, or allow them to get wet, as this can damage the product.
  • Do not use oil or solvents to clean or lubricate the battery pack, as this can make the plastic casing brittle and prone to cracking.

Disposal:

  • Milwaukee Lithium-Ion battery packs are environmentally friendly.
  • Dispose of battery packs according to federal, state, and local regulations. Contact a recycling agency for recycling locations.
  • Even discharged battery packs contain some energy. Before disposing, use electrical tape to cover the terminals to prevent short-circuiting, which could cause a fire or explosion.
