Overview

This document describes the Milwaukee MXFC charger, designed for MXFCP203 and MXFXC406 Milwaukee Li-Ion battery packs. The charger is intended for indoor use and is part of the Milwaukee MX FUEL system, emphasizing "Nothing but HEAVY DUTY®."

Function Description

The MXFC charger is used to recharge Milwaukee MXFCP203 and MXFXC406 Li-Ion battery packs. It automatically begins charging when a battery is inserted, indicated by a continuous red light. If a hot or cold battery pack is inserted, the charger will display a flashing red light and will only begin charging once the battery reaches the correct temperature range (0°C to 40°C). The charger is designed to keep the battery pack fully charged if left plugged in, with the light indicator remaining the same as during normal charging. If the light indicator flashes red and green, it suggests a problem with the battery pack seating or the charger itself, requiring removal and reinsertion of the battery, or unplugging the charger for a few minutes.

The battery packs themselves are partially charged upon delivery and will switch to a non-operative state if not used for long periods. They automatically switch off when fully discharged to prevent depth discharge. In extreme circumstances, if the internal temperature of the battery becomes too high, the battery will shut down and needs to be placed on the charger to reset. The state of charge of a battery can be checked by pressing a button on the battery pack, with the number of illuminated LEDs indicating the charge level. A flashing LED indicates a maximum power reserve of 10%.

Usage Features

  • Transport Lock: For the MXFXC406 battery, a transport lock must be removed and the slide pushed in before first use.
  • Charge Indication:
    • Continuous Red: Charging
    • Slow Flashing Green: Approaching full charge
    • Continuous Green: Charging is complete
    • Fast Flashing Red: Battery or charger is too hot/cold; charging will begin/resume when temperature is correct.
    • Flashing Red/Green: Damaged or faulty battery pack or charger.
  • Battery State of Charge Indication: On the battery pack, LEDs indicate charge levels: 78-100%, 55-77%, 33-54%, 10-32%, and <10%.
  • No Memory Effect: Milwaukee batteries do not develop a memory effect, so it is not necessary to fully discharge the battery pack before placing it on the charger.
  • Safety Features: The charger prevents charging of non-rechargeable batteries and damaged battery packs. It also prevents short circuits by not allowing metal objects into the battery section.
  • Temperature Management: The charger and battery packs have internal temperature management systems to ensure safe and efficient charging within the optimal temperature range.
  • Transporting Lithium Batteries: Lithium-ion batteries are subject to Dangerous Goods Legislation. Users can transport batteries by road without further requirements. Commercial transport by third parties requires compliance with Dangerous Goods regulations and must be handled by appropriately trained persons. When transporting, battery contact terminals must be protected and insulated, and the battery pack secured against movement. Do not transport cracked or leaking batteries.

Maintenance Features

  • Cleaning: Do not immerse the tool, battery pack, or charger in fluid, or allow fluid to flow inside them, to reduce the risk of fire, personal injury, and product damage due to a short circuit. Corrosive or conductive fluids can cause a short circuit.
  • Storage: Store battery packs and chargers in dry rooms. Keep them dry at all times. Do not store battery packs with metal objects to avoid short circuit risk.
  • Repair: If the supply cord of the appliance is damaged, it must only be replaced by a repair shop appointed by the manufacturer, as special purpose tools are required. For any components needing replacement that are not described in the manual, contact a Milwaukee service agent.
  • Disposal: Do not dispose of electric tools, batteries/rechargeable batteries with household waste. They must be collected separately and returned to an environmentally compatible recycling facility. Check with local authorities or retailers for recycling advice.
  • General Practice: It is best to unplug battery chargers and remove batteries when not in use, though no battery pack damage will occur if they are left plugged in.
