Overview

This document is an instruction manual and warranty certificate for the Hyland 60" Ceiling Fan, manufactured by Minka Ceiling Fan Co. It covers installation, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting for indoor and covered outdoor use.

Function Description:

The Hyland 60" Ceiling Fan is designed to provide air circulation and illumination for indoor and covered outdoor spaces. It features a DC brushless motor and is controlled by a self-learning frequency remote control system. The fan offers six speed settings and a reverse function to optimize airflow for both warm and cool weather conditions. It includes an integrated 20W LED light kit with dimmable functionality. The fan is designed for secure mounting to a ceiling outlet box or supporting structure.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Fan Size: 60 inches
  • Voltage: 120V
  • Amps: Low speed: 0.12A, High speed: 0.58A
  • Watts: Low speed: 4.69W, High speed: 37.96W
  • RPM: Low speed: 55, High speed: 116
  • CFM (Cubic Feet Per Minute): Low speed: 3014, High speed: 6314
  • Airflow Efficiency: 197 Cubic Feet Per Minute Per Watt
  • Net Weight (N.W.): 7.0 kgs
  • Gross Weight (G.W.): 9.5 kgs
  • Cubic Feet (C.F.): 3.05'
  • Light Kit: 20W LED light kit
  • Mounting: Requires a UL-listed metal outlet box marked "FOR FAN SUPPORT" capable of supporting a minimum of 35 lbs (15.9 kg).
  • Clearance: Minimum 7 ft clearance from the trailing edge of the blades to the floor.
  • Remote Control: KH968 solid-state speed control with RC400 remote control only. Uses an A23 12-volt battery (included).
  • Operating Distance: Fan must be installed within a maximum distance of 40 feet from the transmitting unit for proper signal transmission.
  • Safety Features: Built-in safety against obstruction (motor locks and disconnects power for 30 seconds), over 40W protection (receiver power stops if motor consumption exceeds 40W).
  • FCC Compliance: Complies with Part 15 of FCC rules, designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation.

Usage Features:

  • Remote Control Operation:
    • Speed Settings: Six buttons (1-6) for minimum, low, medium-low, medium, medium-high, and high speeds.
    • Reverse Function: A dedicated button to change blade rotation direction (counter-clockwise for summer, clockwise for winter).
    • Fan Off: A button to turn the fan power off.
    • Light Control: A button to turn the light ON/OFF and to dim the light by pressing and holding. The light has an auto-resume feature, retaining the last brightness setting.
  • Warm Weather Operation (Forward): Creates a downward airflow for a cooling effect, allowing for a warmer air conditioner setting.
  • Cool Weather Operation (Reverse): Creates an upward airflow to move warmer air off the ceiling, allowing for a cooler heating unit setting.
  • Self-Learning Frequency Function: The remote control system is equipped with a learning frequency function to prevent interference. The frequency is preset but can be changed if installing multiple fans in the same area.
  • Pairing Process: The remote control and receiver must be paired within 60 seconds of turning the fan's AC power on. This involves selecting a frequency on the transmitter and holding the " " button for over 5 seconds. The light will blink twice to indicate successful pairing.
  • Self-Calibration Test: The fan performs a self-calibration test during the pairing process, during which the remote will be non-functional.
  • Light Dimmable Selection: A "1" dip switch setting enables light dimming for all bulbs except CFL bulbs. The "ON" setting is for CFL bulbs.

Maintenance Features:

  • Regular Connection Checks: Due to natural movement, connections may loosen. Support connections, brackets, and blade attachments should be checked twice a year to ensure they are secure.
  • Cleaning:
    • Fan Appearance: Clean periodically with a soft, lint-free cloth and soapy water to maintain appearance. Avoid using harsh chemicals or detergents.
    • Blades: Use a lint-free, lightly damp cloth or duster to remove dust. For wood veneer blades, a light coat of furniture polish can be applied for protection and beauty, and shoe polish can cover small scratches.
    • Glass Shades: Clean with lukewarm soapy water and a soft cloth or sponge. Do not immerse glass shades in hot water or put them in an automatic dishwasher.
  • Lubrication: The fan motor has permanently lubricated bearings and does not require oiling.
  • Power Disconnection: Always ensure the power is off at the electrical panel box before attempting any repairs or maintenance.
  • LED Light Kit Servicing: The light source is designed for specific applications and can overheat if serviced by untrained personnel. Any servicing should be performed by an authorized service facility.

Warranty Information:

  • Duration: One (1) year from the date of purchase from an authorized Minka dealer for defects (light bulbs excluded). Lifetime warranty for the Minka ceiling fan itself (excluding wall controls and electrical components) for the original purchaser or user.
  • Voided Warranty Conditions:
    • Use of non-Minka electrical devices (e.g., wall controls, dimmer switches).
    • Fan ownership transfer or relocation from its original installation point.
    • Use of non-Minka or non-fan specific hanger bracket.
    • Installation in an environment other than intended use (e.g., indoor fans outdoors or in uncovered areas, or exposure to salt air, humidity, direct sun). Outdoor finishes are specifically excluded from the warranty due to environmental and maintenance damages.
  • Service: To obtain warranty service, the fan must be returned with the original sales receipt to the place of purchase. The original purchaser/user is responsible for removal and re-installation costs.
