Overview

This document describes the LAN Control Utility User Manual for Mitsubishi Electric projectors, focusing on the setup, operation, and maintenance of the network control features.

Function Description

The LAN Control Utility enables users to control and monitor Mitsubishi Electric projectors over a network using a Web browser. It also supports sending e-mail notifications for errors or abnormalities. The utility facilitates setting up the projector's IP address, configuring passwords, display language, LAN control, and PJLink™ certification via Telnet. The primary interface for control and monitoring is "ProjectorView," a Web-based tool.

ProjectorView offers several key functions:

  • Power On/Off: Remotely control the projector's power state.
  • Input Source Switching: Change the active input source (e.g., COMPUTER 1, VIDEO, S-VIDEO, DVI-D).
  • State Information Indication: Display real-time information about the projector, including its name, model, location, serial number, internal and lamp temperatures, operating hours, lamp hours, installation date, last lamp replacement date, and last maintenance date. It also indicates error/alert conditions such as "Lamp cover open," "Low lamp life," "Lamp life expired," "Projector overheating," "Lamp strike failure," and "Abnormal state detected."
  • E-mail Notification Function: Automatically send e-mail alerts to a designated address in case of an error or abnormality in the projector. This function remains active even when the browser (ProjectorView screen) is closed, provided the LAN control function is enabled and SMTP settings are configured.
  • Virtual Remote Controller: Provides a graphical interface resembling a physical remote control, allowing users to operate the projector's basic functions (MENU, ENTER, arrow keys, volume control).

The projector also supports the industry-standard PJLink™ protocol, enabling control and monitoring using a single application across different projector models and manufacturers. This ensures interoperability and simplified management in multi-vendor environments.

Maintenance Features

Troubleshooting IP Address Recognition:

  • Ensure the firewall function is disabled on the personal computer.
  • Verify that the personal computer and the projector are on the same network.
  • Confirm that only one Projector-Control Device Installer is running.

Troubleshooting ProjectorView Display:

  • If some buttons are not displayed, disable the cache in Java Plug-in settings (Start > Control Panel > Java Plug-in).
  • If data is not displayed correctly after an instant shutdown, close the browser, re-recognize the projector using the Device Installer, and restart the browser.

Password Management:

  • The default password for ProjectorView is MITSUBISHI.
  • If a wrong password is entered three successive times, the Web browser will close, requiring the user to restart from step 1 of ProjectorView startup.

E-mail Notification Limitations:

  • E-mail notifications are not sent for command errors.
  • LAN control commands may not be transmitted for about 10 seconds after turning on the projector.
  • LAN control commands override serial RS-232C commands if both are issued simultaneously.
  • Lamp mode and MUTE function cannot be changed while a test pattern is displayed or a password is being entered.
  • Response times may vary depending on the projector's operating state.
  • The DHCP mode may not operate correctly with certain network devices (e.g., routers).
  • When monitoring the projector's operating state regularly using PJLink™, issue inquiry commands at intervals of at least 1 minute.
  • Control and monitoring may not be performed correctly during standby, input source switching, command processing, or before the splash screen disappears after power-on.

Virtual Remote Controller:

  • To use the virtual remote, check the "Virtual remote enabled" box on the ProjectorView main screen and click the "VIRTUAL REMOTE" button.

System Updates:

  • The manual recommends using Windows Update to check for critical updates to the .NET Framework.

The manual also provides a glossary of terms like DHCP, Gateway, IP address, MAC address, Subnet mask, Telnet, and URL for better understanding of network concepts.
