Note that the Bill of Materials includes a suggested enclosure and knobs, but any 1590B, 1590N1, 125B, or C65
enclosure will work, and any ¼” set screw knob with a diameter of 2” (51mm) or less will fit.
To accommodate varying JFET specs, the Amber (and the Orange Squeezer) has an internal bias trimpot which must
be set, which can be done by ear. Once the build is complete, connect your guitar to the pedal’s input and connect the
pedal’s output to your amplifier. Locate the trimpot on the board.
With the effect engaged, turn the trimpot fully clockwise and play your guitar. You should hear a normal signal. Now
turn the trimpot fully counter-clockwise and play. You should hear a very faint signal or silence. In-between, the signal
will be audible but quieter than the fully clockwise position. In this position, you should be hearing some signal
compression.
It can be a relatively subtle effect, but you should notice some differences in dynamics, attack/transients,
and sustain. The effect may be more noticeable when playing note runs and rhythm parts. Set the trimpot to
where you like the sound the best. Keep in mind that the bias setting will also have an effect on the
maximum output level, so make sure you have enough output volume at the final bias setting.
