This document is an instruction manual for the Chef Tested Ice Maker, Item: 761467, manufactured by Montgomery Ward. The manual provides detailed information on the appliance's function, technical specifications, usage, and maintenance.
Function Description:
The Chef Tested Ice Maker is designed for household use to produce ice cubes. It is an automatic ice-making machine that simplifies the process of having ice readily available. The appliance is designed to be user-friendly, with easy cleanup and durable construction. It is specifically intended for making ice from fresh, clean water; using other liquids like juice, milk, or soda may damage the ice maker. The ice maker can produce ice in two sizes: small and large. Once ice is made, it can be transferred to a freezer for storage, as the ice maker itself will only keep ice for up to 18 hours, depending on room temperature. The unit includes a control panel with indicator lights to guide the user through the ice-making process, signaling when to add water or when the ice basket is full.
Important Technical Specifications:
- Power Rating: 100W, 115V, 60Hz
- Capacity: 2.3-Quart Reservoir
- Cord Length: 60 inches
- Dimensions: 9.6" L x 14.4" W x 12.8" H
- Model: ICG401-CB
- Electrical Safety: The appliance is equipped with a 3-prong grounding plug to reduce the risk of electrical shock. An extension cord is not recommended. If one must be used, its electrical rating should be at least as great as the appliance's rating.
- Ice Production Cycle: The first ice cycle takes approximately 8-13 minutes, depending on the selected ice size. The compressor will stay idle for 3 minutes when first turned on or during ice-making cycles.
Usage Features:
- Before First Use:
- Ensure the ice maker's incline angle does not exceed 45° during transportation or use.
- Allow 2 hours for the ice maker to rest in place after moving or transporting to allow fluids in the compressor to settle.
- Place the ice maker on a stable, dry, heat-resistant surface with sufficient ventilation, ensuring an 8-inch clearance on all sides.
- Allow the unit to reach room temperature before operating.
- Wipe down the interior with a damp cloth and air dry.
- Do not fill the water reservoir with hot water; use water of room temperature or lower.
- Discard the first batch of ice.
- How to Operate:
- Ensure the drain plug is closed and the water tube screen is in place.
- Plug the ice maker into an outlet; the green power indicator light will blink.
- Open the cover, remove the ice basket, and fill the water reservoir up to the MAX WATER LEVEL mark.
- Replace the ice basket and close the cover.
- Press the POWER button. The green indicator light will remain on.
- Select desired ice size (small or large) by pressing the SELECT button.
- The ice-making cycle begins, with water pumped into the water tray, ice forming on evaporator fingers, and then being dropped into the ice basket by the ice shovel.
- The "ICE FULL" light will illuminate when the basket is full, and the ice maker will stop automatically. Remove ice with the scoop, wait 3 minutes, then press POWER to restart.
- The "ADD WATER" light will illuminate when the reservoir is empty, and the cycle will stop. Press POWER, add water (not above MAX WATER LEVEL), replace the basket, close the cover, wait 3 minutes, then press POWER to restart.
- WARNING: Do not touch the evaporator fingers when the ice maker is making ice to avoid burns.
- Transfer finished ice to a freezer for long-term storage.
- Change water in the reservoir every 24 hours to keep ice fresh.
Maintenance Features:
- Cleaning & Care:
- Stop the ice maker by pressing POWER and unplugging it. Allow the unit to warm up.
- If the water tray is not vertical, gently push it back to drain water into the reservoir.
- Open the drain plug to drain excess water.
- Remove and wash the ice basket and scoop in warm soapy water, then rinse and dry.
- Remove and rinse the water tube screen under running water.
- Clean the inside of the reservoir with a soft cloth dampened with warm water and vinegar, then rinse with a clean damp cloth.
- Replace the drain plug and water tube screen.
- Clean the exterior with a soft damp cloth and mild dishwashing soap if needed.
- DO NOT CLEAN THE EVAPORATOR FINGERS.
- Do not immerse any electrical appliance, its cord, or plug into water.
- Ensure all parts are thoroughly dried before reassembling and using.
- When storing, ensure the reservoir is completely dry to prevent mold, and store with the drain plug open.
- Troubleshooting: The manual includes a troubleshooting section addressing common issues such as no indication on the control panel, simultaneous "ICE FULL" and "ADD WATER" lights, unit not operating, and ice blockage. Solutions range from checking the plug and water levels to restarting the unit or contacting customer service for refrigerant leaks.
