Overview

This document provides installation and operating instructions for the Montpellier Retro Style 4* Icebox Fridge, model MAB341C/K/R (available in Cream, Black, or Red). It emphasizes the brand's commitment to "The Perfect Balance of Function and Style" across its laundry, dishwashing, cooking, and cooling appliances.

Function Description:

The Montpellier Retro Style 4* Icebox Fridge is designed for household and domestic applications, primarily for cooling and storing fresh and frozen foods. It features a refrigerator compartment and a freezer compartment. The appliance uses R600a as a refrigerant, which is environmentally friendly. It is equipped with a thermostat to regulate internal temperatures, a turbo fan for air circulation, and a "Door Open" indicator on the handle to show if the door is properly closed. The freezer compartment is intended for storing frozen food, freezing fresh food, and making ice cubes. The appliance is designed to operate within specific ambient temperature ranges, categorized by climate classes (T, ST, N, SN) to ensure optimal cooling efficiency.

Usage Features:

Before first use, the appliance should stand for a minimum of 4 hours. It requires a 220-240 V at 50Hz power supply and must be connected to a properly installed fused socket with an efficient ground connection (13 amperes, BS 1363A 13A fused plug for UK type). The adjustable front legs allow for leveling and stability. Two plastic distance guides at the rear prevent the condenser from touching the wall, maintaining a maximum distance of 75 mm.

The thermostat knob controls the temperature settings:

  • 1-2: For short-term storage in the freezer.
  • 3-4: For long-term storage in the freezer.
  • 5: For freezing fresh food; the appliance will work longer, and once food is frozen, the thermostat should be returned to its previous setting.
  • Super Switch (if available): Used when ambient temperature is below 16°C or when a lower freezer temperature is needed. It should be turned ON in these conditions and OFF when the freezer has cooled sufficiently or in warm weather to save energy.
  • Winter Switch (if available): Used if the ambient temperature is below 16°C to keep the fridge above 0°C while the freezer remains below -18°C.

When first switched on, the appliance should run continuously for 24 hours to reach operating temperature, and the door should not be opened frequently, nor should large quantities of food be placed inside during this period. If the unit is switched off or unplugged, a 5-10 minute delay is recommended before restarting to prevent compressor damage.

For food storage:

  • Refrigerator Compartment: Liquids should be stored in sealed containers to reduce humidity and frost. Warm food should be cooled to room temperature before placing it inside to ensure adequate air circulation. Items should not touch the rear wall. Meat and clean fish are best stored loosely wrapped on the glass shelf above the vegetable bin. Loose fruits and vegetables should be stored in the crisper containers, kept separate to prevent ethylene-sensitive items from being affected by ethylene-releaser fruits. Wet vegetables should not be placed in the refrigerator. Food products should be consumed before their recommended expiry date. Hot food should not be placed directly in the refrigerator. Foods should be in closed containers or covered to prevent moisture and odors.
  • Freezer Compartment: Fresh food for freezing should be wrapped and sealed properly in airtight, non-leaking packaging (freezer bags, aluminum foil, plastic containers). Fresh food should not be stored next to frozen food to prevent thawing. Divide fresh food into single-serving portions before freezing. Thawed frozen food should be consumed quickly and never refrozen. Avoid placing warm food in the freezer. Follow manufacturer instructions on food packaging for storage times; if none, store for no more than 3 months. When purchasing frozen food, ensure it's stored under appropriate conditions and packaging is undamaged. Transport frozen food in appropriate containers and place in the freezer as soon as possible. Avoid purchasing frozen food with signs of humidity or abnormal swelling. The maximum amount of fresh food that can be frozen in 24 hours is indicated on the appliance label. To maximize freezing, ensure food surfaces are in contact with the cooling surface.

Accessories include an ice tray (fill with water, freeze, then twist to remove cubes), a plastic scraper for frost removal, and a "Magic Shelf" above the crisper cover, which is mobile and can be folded back for taller items.

Maintenance Features:

Regular cleaning and maintenance are crucial for optimal performance and energy efficiency.

  • Cleaning: The appliance should be disconnected from the power supply before cleaning. Do not wash with pouring water or use abrasive products, detergents, or soaps. Clean with a solution of bicarbonate of soda and lukewarm water, then rinse with clean water and dry carefully. Ensure no water enters the lamp housing or other electrical components. Accessories should be cleaned separately by hand; do not use a dishwasher. The condenser should be cleaned with a brush at least twice a year to save energy and increase productivity.
  • Defrosting the Refrigerator Compartment: This occurs automatically. The evaporation tray and water drain hole should be cleaned periodically with the defrost drain plug to prevent water accumulation. Half a glass of water can be poured down the drain hole to clean it.
  • Defrosting the Freezer Compartment: Frost should be removed regularly using the provided plastic scraper. The freezer compartment should be cleaned in the same way as the refrigerator compartment, with the defrost function, at least twice a year. To defrost, set the thermostat to "5" the day before to freeze food completely. During defrosting, wrap frozen food in paper and keep it in a cool place. Set the thermostat knob to "•" and disconnect the appliance from the mains. Leave the door open until completely defrosted. Placing bowls of warm water in the freezer can accelerate the process. After defrosting, dry the inside carefully and set the thermostat knob to MAX.
  • LED Lighting: If the appliance has LED lighting, contact the help desk for replacement by authorized personnel.

The manual also provides troubleshooting tips for common issues like the appliance not operating, performing poorly, or being noisy, and offers recommendations for saving energy, such as installing the appliance in a cool, well-ventilated room, allowing warm food to cool before storage, and avoiding frequent door openings.
