DVD REAR SEAT VIDEO SYSTEM
JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Vehicles equipped with REC Navigation Radio will require an upgrade so that the vehicle speakers will
function when a DVD is playing.
TOOLS REQUIRED:
• Scissors • Sharp utility knife • New roll of masking tape • Non-metal trim stick • Hooked Pick Tool
• 10mm Socket
• Socket wrench • T15, T20, T25 Torx drivers • Magnetized T15 torx driver
• T50 Torx bit • Tape Measure
• Torque wrench • Metal wire routing tool • Strong adhesive tape
• Diagnostic STAR SCAN tool

Summary

Trim Out the Headliner

Trim Template Along Dotted Lines

Trim out the supplied template along the dotted lines as indicated for vehicles with or without sunroof.

Position and Tape Template

Position and tape the template to the headliner where indicated for precise trimming.

Measure for Template Placement

Measure 20" (508mm) from the rear of the overhead console to the front of the template.

Cut Headliner

Trim out the headliner using a sharp utility knife following the template.

Interior Trim Panel and Component Removal

Disconnect Battery

Disconnect and isolate the vehicle's negative battery cable.

Remove Left Sun Visor

Remove the left sun visor by unscrewing two T25 screws and disengaging the retaining clip.

Remove Overhead Console

Disconnect and remove the overhead console unit from the headliner.

Remove Left A-Pillar Trim Panel

Open cap plugs in the left A-pillar trim panel and remove the panel using two screws.

Remove B-Pillar Trim Panels

Remove cap plugs from B-pillar trim panels and one screw each side using a magnetized T15 driver.

Remove Shoulder Belt Loop Bolts

Remove T15 shoulder belt turning loop bolts to detach the trim panels.

Remove Headliner Grab Handles

Disconnect and remove left and right headliner grab handles using two T20 screws.

Remove C-Pillar Trim Panels

Remote the left and right C-pillar trim panels.

Remove Center Console Radio Bezel

Remove the center console radio bezel.

Remove Radio

Remove the vehicle's radio unit by unscrewing four Phillips screws.

Remove Floor Console Back Cover

Remove and discard the back cover from the rear of the floor console.

Remove Floor Console Screw

Remove one T15 screw from the right side of the floor console.

Remove Upper Liftgate Trim

Remove the upper liftgate trim panel.

Remove D-Pillar Trim Panels

Remove the left and right D-pillar trim panels.

Remove Headliner Retainers

Remove two retainers from the rear edge of the headliner.

Install Screen Console Mounting Bracket on Vehicles with Sunroof

Install Sunroof Frame U-Nuts

Install two u-nuts on each side of the left and right sunroof inner frame.

Position Mounting Bracket

Slide the screen console mounting bracket between the headliner and sunroof middle beam.

Align Bracket to Middle Beam

Align three holes in the center of the mounting bracket with holes in the middle beam.

Install M5 Screws

Install three M5 screws to secure the mounting bracket.

Install M6 Hex Flange Screws

Install two M6 hex flange screws to each end of the bracket into the u-nuts.

Tighten M5 Bolts

Tighten the three M5 bolts to 85 in.-lbs. (9.6 N·m).

Install Screen Console Mounting Bracket on Vehicles without Sunroof

Install Roof Crossbow U-Nuts

Install four u-nuts to slots in the front and rear roof crossbow.

Slide Mounting Bracket Forward

Carefully slide the screen console mounting bracket forward from the rear opening of the headliner.

Lock Rear Bracket Tab

Lock the mounting bracket's rear tab to the slot in the rear roof crossbow.

Slide Front Bracket Tab

Slide the mounting bracket's front tab to the slot in the front roof crossbow.

Align Front Bracket Holes

Align two holes in the front of the mounting bracket to the front roof crossbow.

Install Front M6 Bolts

Install two M6 bolts into the front roof crossbow using a 10mm socket.

Install Rear M6 Bolts

Install two M6 bolts through the rear of the mounting bracket into the rear roof crossbow u-nuts.

Tighten All Mounting Bolts

Tighten the four mounting bolts to 105 in.-lbs. (11.8 N·m).

Install Overhead Harness and Power Harness

Lower Headliner

Carefully lower the headliner and let it rest on the seat headrests.

Route Rear Connector

Route the black connector on the overhead harness under the headliner out of the trimmed opening.

Route Harness Forward

Route the harness forward along the trough in the headliner foam block.

Secure Harness to Headliner

Use strong adhesive tape to secure the harness to the inside of the headliner.

Reposition Headliner and Panels

Reposition the headliner and re-install pillar trim panels, sun visor, and overhead console.

Detach Door Weatherstrip

Detach the left front door weatherstrip from the I/P to the top of the door sill.

Remove Lower I/P Closeout Panel

Remove the lower I/P closeout panel and drop down the knee blocker.

Route Harness Down A-Pillar

Route overhead harness down the left A-pillar and secure with tie straps.

Route Harness to Console

Route harness across the inside of knee blocker opening to the lower right center console trim panel.

Connect Power and Overhead Harnesses to Radio

Feed Power Harness Connector

Hand feed the 12-way connector on the power harness into the radio opening.

Connect 22-Way Connectors

Plug the 22-way connectors between the radio and radio harness connector.

Connect 10-Way Connector

Plug the 10-way connector into the radio.

Modify for Satellite Radio

Procedure to modify wiring if vehicle is equipped with Satellite Radio.

Route Harnesses and Bundle Slack

Route Harnesses Behind Console

Route power harness and overhead harness rearward behind the right side of floor console.

Position Harness Connectors

Position harness connectors approximately 6" out of the rear console's end cap mounting tabs.

Bundle and Tuck Harness Slack

Bundle any slack in the harness, tape, and tuck neatly inside the center console.

Install DVD Player and Screen Console

Attach Bracket to DVD Player

Install bracket (Item 9) to the DVD player (Item 10) with four T25 screws.

Mount Bracket/Player to Assembly

Install bracket/DVD player to the end cap/lid assembly with four T15 screws.

Connect Components and Attach Screen

Connect Harnesses to DVD Player

Plug 12-way power harness connector and 16-way overhead harness connector into the back of DVD player.

Engage DVD Bracket Tabs

Fully engage the DVD bracket's two hook tabs to the floor console bottom mounting slots.

Secure DVD Bracket Clips

Snap four retaining clips on the DVD bracket into the floor console mounting slots.

Connect Harness to Screen Console

Plug and lock overhead harness connector into the screen console.

Secure Screen Console Clips

Snap four retaining clips on the top of screen console into the mounting bracket slots.

Remove DVD Remote

Open the screen and carefully remove the attached DVD remote.

Apply Mercury Warning Label

Peel and stick mercury warning label to the lower portion of the left B-pillar.

Finalize Installation and Perform Operation Test

Re-install Components

Re-install all previously removed components, panels, and fasteners.

Reconnect Battery

Reconnect the vehicle's battery.

Install Batteries in Headphones

Place supplied batteries into both headphones.

Install Batteries in DVD Remote

Place batteries into the DVD remote.

Configure and Test Video Entertainment System

Power Up Unit

Turn on the ignition; the unit will power up.

Reconfigure FCM Using STARSCAN

Use a STARSCAN tool to reconfigure the Front Control Module (FCM) for the VES.

Insert DVD and Verify Playback

Insert a known good DVD into the player and verify playback.

Verify Headphone and Remote Function

Verify function of headphones and DVD remote using the operating instructions.

Store Operating Instructions

Place the Operating Instructions in the vehicle's glove box.
