ROUTINE MAINTENANCE
Use proper hardware for mounting
knife to holder. Torque mounting
bolts properly to eliminate wood
packing and possible knife
breakage.
Bevel of knife
must exceed mounting
bolts for clearance
when chipping.
Proper anvil clearance, sharp anvils and
knives should be maintained for quality chips.
A good, efficient cut can eliminate plugging
problems and undue stress on the chipper.
Repair costs and down time can be greatly reduced by using sharp knives and a good,
square anvil. A chipper strains trying to feed wood
through dull knives. Dull knives are caused by:
-Use of wrong cutting angles and bevels. -Poor grinding procedures.
-Improper care of knives. -Dirty material being chipped.
-Long overdue knife changes. -Foreign items in material (nails, wire
steel, etc).
10 STEPS TO LASTING PERFORMANCE
1. Use knives of correct steel composition and hardness.
2. Maintain proper cutting angle and sharpening techniques.
3. Practice frequent knife changes.
4. Maintain proper anvil clearance.
5. Maintain square anvil.
6. Use matched sets.
7. Do not use knives that are too narrow.
8. Keep anvil and knife bolts tight.
9. Be sure knife pockets and holders are clean when changing knives.
10. Protect cutting edges of knives when not in chipper.
