Overview

The document describes the Morphy Richards 12-in-1 Upright and Handheld Steam Cleaner, a versatile appliance designed for domestic cleaning.

Function Description

This steam cleaner is a multi-functional device capable of both upright and handheld steam cleaning. It operates by emitting steam at an increased temperature of 115°C, making it effective for sanitizing and cleaning various surfaces. The dual functionality allows it to be used as an upright steam cleaner for floors and carpets, and as a handheld steam cleaner for vertical or hard-to-reach surfaces. A range of attachments (22-30) can be used with the handheld unit to tackle different cleaning tasks.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Rated voltage: 220-240VAC
  • Rated frequency: 50/60Hz
  • Rated power: 1500W
  • Water tank capacity: 380ml
  • Steam temperature: 115°C
  • Heat-up time: Approximately 40 seconds for steam emission.
  • Guarantee: Standard 1-year guarantee, extended to 2 years upon registration within 28 days of purchase (UK and Ireland customers only).

Usage Features

General Operation

The appliance is designed for ease of use with a power indicator light (10) that illuminates green when heating and red when the pump stops (due to lack of water or blockage). The steam dial (9) allows users to select their desired steam setting.

Upright Steam Cleaning Mode

  1. Assembly: The main body (7) clicks onto the floorhead (17). The handheld steam cleaner (8) inserts into the main body until it clicks. The upright handle (1) raises into position until it clicks, and can be folded back down for storage by pressing the release button (2).
  2. Cloth Attachment: A micro-fibre floor cloth (18) attaches to the floorhead (17) using hook and loop fastener pads.
  3. Water Filling: The handheld steam cleaner (8) is removed from the main body (7) by pressing the release button (3). The filler cap (14) is opened, and the water tank (11) is filled using the provided funnel (20) and filling jug (21). Crucially, only deionised, demineralised, or distilled water should be used to prevent limescale build-up, which would invalidate the guarantee.
  4. Operation: After filling and reassembling, the power cord (4) is plugged in, and the steam cleaner is switched on by rotating the steam dial (9). The power indicator light (10) turns green, and steam is emitted after approximately 40 seconds.
  5. Cleaning: The floorhead (17) is placed on the floor, tilted back by releasing the floorhead rest catch (13), and pushed back and forth. For carpet cleaning, the carpet glider (19) is attached over the micro-fibre floor cloth (18) to facilitate movement.

Handheld Steam Cleaning Mode

  1. Separation: The handheld steam cleaner (8) is separated from the main body (7) by pressing the handheld release button (3) and pulling it up and out.
  2. Accessory Attachment: For most accessories (excluding the utility nozzle and squeegee), the accessory adaptor (25) must first be attached to the handheld steam cleaner's nozzle. The adaptor slides into the nozzle, aligning the release catch with the square hole, and is pushed into place. The desired accessory is then attached to the adaptor by aligning circular sections and twisting until arrows align.
  3. Safety: When using in handheld mode, the product should only be held by the handheld handle (6). Nozzles become very hot after use, so users are warned to switch off, unplug, and allow to cool before changing them. The underside of the handheld unit will become warm during use.

Attachments for Handheld Steam Cleaner

  • Accessory Adaptor (25): Base attachment for most handheld accessories, also useful for cleaning hard-to-reach places.
  • Angled Nozzle Attachment (23): For sanitary ware, taps, drain covers, and spot cleaning carpets/upholstery.
  • Spatula Attachment (22): For removing stubborn deposits and de-icing refrigerators/freezers.
  • Nylon Brush Attachment (26): For tiles, ovens, wheels, glass.
  • Brass Brush Attachment (27): For hard stainless-steel surfaces like barbecue grills.
  • Crevice Brush Attachment (24): For removing dirt from grooves and crevices.
  • Utility Nozzle (28): Base attachment for the squeegee and elasticated utility cloth.
  • Squeegee Attachment (29): Attaches to the utility nozzle. Ideal for cleaning tiled or glass areas like windows and mirrors. Users are advised not to use it on very cold glass to prevent cracking.
  • Elasticated Utility Cloth (30): Attaches to the utility nozzle. Useful for cleaning tiled/glass surfaces, cabinets, worktops, upholstery, curtains, blinds, pillows, and mattresses.

Run-dry and Blockage Protection

The appliance features a safety mechanism: if operated without water, the pump stops, and the power indicator light (10) changes from green to red. Users should switch off, refill the tank, and restart. If a blockage occurs in the steam nozzle, the pump will also stop, and the light will turn red. In this case, the product should be switched off and allowed to cool before examining the nozzle. Using tap water can cause limescale build-up and blockages, which are not covered by the guarantee. Descalers should never be used in the product.

Maintenance Features

Overall Maintenance

The cleaner is designed for durability, but occasional wiping with a damp cloth helps maintain it. Abrasive cleaners should not be used.

Cleaning the Cloths

The micro-fibre floor cloth (18) and elasticated utility cloth (30) are machine washable (40°C max). For heavy soiling, they can be soaked in warm water and detergent or a mild stain remover. Bleach or fabric softener should not be used. Cloths must be completely dry before storage. Replacement cloths can be purchased via the helpline or website.

Maintaining Attachments

Dirt and blockages should be regularly removed from attachments to prolong their usage.

Rinsing the Water Tank

The water tank should be regularly rinsed with deionised, demineralised, or distilled water to remove any collected deposits. Vigorous rinsing is recommended.

After Use

  1. Switch off and unplug the cleaner. Place it on a suitable surface (e.g., tiled floor) to allow residual heat/moisture to dissipate without affecting the surface. Allow the cleaner to cool completely.
  2. Empty the water tank (11) by lifting the filler cap (14) and pouring out the water. Allow the inside of the tank to dry before replacing the filler cap.

Storage

It is recommended to store the steam cleaner with the carpet glider (19) attached, but with cloths removed to minimize water leakage onto surfaces. The power cord (4) can be wrapped around the two rotatable cord storage hooks (5/12). The upright handle (1) is collapsible for compact storage by pressing the release button (2). Users are warned to keep the area clear when locking the handle to avoid trapping fingers or clothing.
