Do you have a question about the Motorola CB200-U and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Motorola CB200-U and CB200-M are communication devices designed for various applications, offering features for radio frequency selection, message management, and volume adjustment. This user guide provides comprehensive information on the device's operation, safety, and compliance.

Function Description

The CB200 devices primarily function as two-way radios, enabling users to communicate over specific radio frequencies. They support both UHF and VHF frequency bands, with dedicated settings for MURS (Multi-Use Radio Service) channels. Key functionalities include:

  • Radio Frequency Selection: Users can select predefined radio frequencies or define their own within specified ranges.
  • Radio Code Selection: The device supports CTCSS (Continuous Tone-Coded Squelch System) codes for selective signaling, allowing users to filter out unwanted transmissions.
  • Message Recording and Playback: The CB200 allows for recording and playing back messages, which can be useful for pre-recorded announcements or reminders.
  • Call Cycles: The device can be configured to repeat radio broadcasts a set number of times when the call button is activated.
  • Cycle Delay: A delay can be set between repeating radio broadcasts.
  • RF Busy Delay: This feature helps prevent transmitting while conversations are ongoing by defining a delay after the device recognizes an open channel before it makes its radio transmission.

Important Technical Specifications

While specific power output and detailed electrical specifications are not explicitly listed, the manual provides information on:

  • Battery Type: The CB200 uses six (6) AA batteries.
  • Frequency Ranges:
    • UHF: A table lists 61 predefined UHF frequencies ranging from 464.5000 MHz to 467.8875 MHz, with additional slots for user-defined frequencies.
    • VHF: A table lists 10 predefined VHF frequencies, including standard FCC MURS Channels 1-5 and custom frequencies, all at 151.8200 MHz, 151.8800 MHz, 151.9400 MHz, 154.5700 MHz, and 154.6000 MHz.
    • MURS: A table lists 7 MURS frequencies with corresponding CTCSS codes and bandwidths. Frequencies include 154.5700 MHz, 154.6000 MHz, 151.8200 MHz, 151.8800 MHz, and 151.9400 MHz. Bandwidths are either 25 KHz or 12.5 KHz.
  • CTCSS Codes: Extensive tables are provided for both analog and digital CTCSS codes, with analog codes ranging from 67.0 Hz to 241.8 Hz and digital codes from 023 to 754.
  • LCD Display: The device features an LCD display for showing status information, frequencies, and menu options.
  • Software Version: The device runs on software version CB2.00.

Usage Features

The CB200 is designed for user-friendly operation with a clear control interface and a scrolling menu system.

Control Interface: The device features the following controls:

  1. Menu Button: Used to access and navigate the menu options.
  2. Enter Button: Used to confirm selections or enter modes.
  3. Esc Button: Used to exit modes or cancel operations.
  4. Display: The LCD screen shows operational information.
  5. Microphone: For voice input during transmissions.
  6. Wake Up Button: Used to activate the LCD display from sleep mode.
  7. Call Button: Initiates radio transmissions. Additionally, "Up" and "Down" buttons are present for navigating menu options and adjusting values.

Initial Power-Up: Upon battery installation, the Call Button blinks, and the LCD displays "INTERFACE ENA -ESC TO EXIT-". Pressing the ESC button exits this mode. If no button is pressed, the unit enters sleep mode after 60 seconds.

Status Screen: The Status Screen continuously toggles between displaying the current frequency and CTCSS setting. Examples include "Freq No: 6 MHZ:467.8750" and "Channel Spacing 12.5 KHz".

LCD Wakeup: The LCD screen enters a "sleep" state to conserve battery life. To wake it up, press the Menu button or the Wakeup button. The large round button blinks to indicate it is awake. The display remains disabled until any LCD menu control button (Up or Down) is pressed.

Scrolling Menu: Users can set up preferred features by scrolling through menu options using the Menu, Up, and Down buttons. The menu options are presented continuously and include:

  • Set Radio Frequency
  • Set Radio Code
  • Message Record
  • Message Playback
  • Volume Adjust
  • LCD Contrast
  • User Defined Frequency
  • Software Version
  • Call Cycles
  • Cycle Delay
