This document is a user manual for a Moulinex Prompteo steam generator iron.
Function Description
The Moulinex Prompteo is a steam generator iron designed for domestic use. It features a separate water tank and boiler unit that generates powerful steam for efficient ironing. The iron itself has a soleplate, a temperature adjustment dial, and a steam control button. The base unit includes a water tank, a boiler, a power cord storage compartment, and a control panel with indicator lights and a "Restart" button. The device is equipped with two safety systems: a pressure relief valve to prevent overpressure and a thermal fuse to prevent overheating.
Important Technical Specifications
- Water Tank Capacity: 1.4 liters (indicated by "1,4l max" on the control panel).
- Power Supply: 220-240V, earthed electrical outlet.
- Safety Systems: Pressure relief valve and thermal fuse.
- Steam Ready Time: Approximately 2 minutes (indicated by a green "steam ready" light).
- Water Type: Designed for use with untreated tap water. For very hard water, a 50/50 mix of tap water and demineralized water is recommended.
- Iron Temperature Control: Adjustable dial with settings for different fabric types (Linen/Cotton, Silk/Wool, Synthetics).
Usage Features
Preparation:
- Water Filling: Place the generator on a stable, heat-resistant surface. Ensure it is unplugged and cool. Use a jug to fill the 1.4L water tank up to the "Max" level (fig. 1, fig. 2).
- Power Connection: Unwind the power cord and steam cord completely. Plug the generator into an earthed electrical socket.
- Heating: The green "steam ready" light on the control panel will flash (fig. 6) as the boiler heats up. After approximately 2 minutes, the light will remain steady, indicating the steam is ready.
- First Use/Priming: During the first use or after a period of inactivity, some fumes and smell may occur, which is normal and will disappear. To prime the steam circuit, press the steam control button several times away from clothes to eject any cold water (fig. 3).
Ironing:
- Temperature Setting: Adjust the iron's temperature control dial according to the fabric type (e.g., Linen/Cotton, Silk/Wool, Synthetics). Start with low-temperature fabrics and progress to higher ones.
- Steam Ironing: Once the iron's thermostat light goes out and the green "steam ready" light is steady, the iron is ready. Press the steam control button under the iron handle to generate steam (fig. 3). Release the button to stop steam.
- Dry Ironing: Do not press the steam control button for dry ironing.
- Vertical Steam Ironing: Set the iron's temperature to MAX. Hang the garment on a hanger and hold the fabric taut. Press the steam control button repeatedly while moving the iron from top to bottom (fig. 4). Caution: Steam is very hot; never attempt to remove creases from clothes while worn.
- Refilling Water Tank: When the red "water tank empty" indicator light turns on (fig. 5), the generator will stop producing steam. Unplug the generator, refill the water tank up to the "Max" mark (fig. 2), replug, and press the "Restart" button (fig. 7) on the control panel to resume ironing.
Storage:
- Cool Down: Allow the generator to cool down for at least 30 minutes before storing.
- Cord Storage: Store the electrical cord in its compartment (fig. 12) and the steam cord in the cord storage clip (fig. 14).
- Iron Placement: Place the iron on the iron rest plate of the generator.
Maintenance Features
Cleaning the Generator:
- General Cleaning: Do not use detergents or descaling products on the soleplate or boiler. Never immerse the iron or base unit in water. Clean the soleplate regularly with a damp, non-metallic washing-up pad. Clean plastic parts with a soft, damp cloth.
- Safety Precaution: Always ensure the steam generator is unplugged and cool for at least 2 hours before any cleaning or maintenance to prevent burns.
Rinsing the Boiler:
- Cool Down: Ensure the generator is cool and unplugged for more than 2 hours.
- Positioning: Place the steam generator on the edge of your sink with the iron resting on its heel.
- Accessing Boiler Cap: Unscrew the boiler rinse cap cover a quarter turn anti-clockwise (fig. 8). Use a coin to gently unscrew the boiler rinse cap (fig. 9).
- Rinsing: Hold the generator in a tilted position and fill the boiler with 1/4 liter of tap water using a jug (fig. 10). Shake the base unit for a few moments, then empty it completely into the sink (fig. 11). Repeat this process twice for best results.
- Reassembly: Screw back and tighten the boiler rinse cap with a coin, then replace the cap cover.
Troubleshooting:
The manual provides a detailed troubleshooting guide for common issues such as:
- Generator not turning on or thermostat light not illuminated.
- Water leaking from the soleplate.
- Water streaks or stains on linen.
- No or low steam output.
- Steam escaping from the rinse plug or under the appliance.
- Loud electric pump noise during ironing (normal if water tank is empty).
Solutions range from checking connections, refilling the water tank, rinsing the boiler, adjusting temperature, to contacting an Approved Service Centre for faulty components.
Environmental Protection:
The appliance contains recyclable materials. It should be left at a civic waste disposal center or an Approved Service Centre for proper disposal at the end of its life.
