Overview

This document is an instruction manual for the Mr. Freeze 1.5 Qt. Ice Cream Freezer, Model EIM-550.

Function Description:

The Mr. Freeze EIM-550 is a 1.5-quart ice cream freezer designed for household use. Its primary function is to prepare ice cream, sorbet, and other frozen desserts. The appliance features a built-in compressor, eliminating the need for pre-freezing the bowl in a conventional freezer, though pre-chilling the removable container is recommended for optimal results. The motor unit drives a paddle to churn the ingredients, ensuring a smooth and consistent texture. A safety interlock switch automatically turns off the motor if the motor unit is separated from the locking ring, enhancing user safety. The device also includes a motor timer for setting the desired freezing duration.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Capacity: 1.5 Quarts (approximately 30 oz. or 3.75 cups of mixture per batch).
  • Model Number: EIM-550.
  • Power: Operates via an electrical outlet.
  • Plug Type: Polarized plug (one blade wider than the other) to reduce the risk of electrical shock.
  • Cord: Short power cord provided to minimize entanglement and tripping hazards; longer extension cords can be used with caution.
  • Components: Motor Unit, Transparent Cover, Spindle, Paddle, Removable Container, Fixed Bowl, Locking Ring, Main Body (with compressor and fixed bowl), Motor Timer, Socket for Motor Unit, Power Switch, and Safety Interlock Switch.

Usage Features:

  • Pre-cooling: The fixed bowl should be pre-cooled for at least 10 minutes by turning on the power switch before adding ingredients.
  • Removable Container Pre-chilling: For best results, the removable container should be placed in a freezer for a minimum of 4 hours before use.
  • Mixture Preparation: Users should select a recipe and prepare the mixture, ensuring ingredients are chilled beforehand. The maximum mixture volume is 30 oz. (3.75 cups) to allow for volume expansion during freezing.
  • Assembly:
    • The pre-chilled removable container is placed into the fixed bowl, ensuring its handles align with the notches and are folded down.
    • The paddle is inserted into the spindle of the motor unit until it reaches a marking line.
    • The motor unit is then placed onto the locking ring.
  • Operation:
    • Connect the power plug to an electrical outlet and the main body.
    • Turn on the Power Switch.
    • Set the Motor Timer to the desired time. The motor will only run when the timer is set.
    • The motor operates at a slow pace and may be loud during operation.
    • If the paddle stops rotating due to the ice cream hardening before the timer goes off, the timer should be turned to the "off" position, and the paddle removed immediately to prevent it from freezing into the ice cream.
  • Recipe Variety: The manual provides numerous recipes for different types of ice cream and sorbet, including:
    • Quick & Easy Vanilla Ice Cream
    • Chocolate Ice Cream
    • Chocolate Chip Ice Cream
    • Strawberry Ice Cream

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning:
    • Before cleaning, ensure the machine is switched off, unplugged, and has reached room temperature.
    • The Transparent Cover can be removed from the Motor Unit by pushing it as indicated in Figure 7 (after removing the paddle).
    • The paddle, Transparent Cover, and Removable Container should be washed in warm, soapy water.
    • The Fixed Bowl, Motor Unit, and Main Body should be wiped with a damp cloth and then dried with a clean towel.
