Do you have a question about the MSA fieldserver QuickServer FS-QS-2XX0-F and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The QuickServer FS-QS-2XX0-F is a high-performance, cost-effective multi-protocol gateway designed for Building and Industrial Automation, facilitating protocol translation between serial and Ethernet devices and networks. It is cloud-ready and connects with MSA Safety's Grid, enabling secure remote connection to field devices for configuration, management, and maintenance via the FieldServer Manager.

Function Description:

The QuickServer acts as a bridge, translating protocols to allow different devices and networks to communicate seamlessly. It comes preloaded with two selected drivers and a sample configuration file, with all necessary manuals and utilities available on an optional USB drive or the MSA website. The gateway supports both Ethernet and serial communications, making it versatile for various automation environments. Its web-based GUI allows for easy configuration and monitoring.

Usage Features:

  • Mounting: The gateway can be mounted using a DIN rail mounting bracket on its back.
  • DIP Switch Settings:
    • Bias Resistors: Enable BIAS- and BIAS+ DIP switches to the right to keep the RS-485 bus in a known idle state, preventing false data detection. The bias resistor is 510 ohms, compliant with BACnet specifications. Only one point on the bus should have bias resistors enabled.
    • Termination Resistors: Enable the TERM DIP switch to the right if the gateway is the last device on the serial trunk. This reduces noise by pulling the two lines of an idle bus together.
    • R1 Port Configuration: DIP switch 4 on the R1 port allows switching between RS-485 (left) and RS-232 (right). The R2 port is exclusively RS-485.
    • Power Cycle Requirement: DIP switch settings only take effect after a power cycle.
  • Ethernet Connection: Used for both Ethernet protocol communications and gateway configuration via the Web App. Connect the PC to the router's Ethernet port or use an Ethernet switch.
  • Web Server Security:
    • Upon first login, users choose between HTTPS with a default trusted TLS certificate (requires internet connection), HTTPS with an own trusted TLS certificate (most secure, recommended for IT department consultation), or HTTP with built-in payload encryption (not secure).
    • Cookies are used for authentication.
    • Security settings can be changed after initial setup.
  • Login: Default username is "admin". The default password is found on the FieldServer label (also accessible via QR code scan). After 5 failed login attempts, a 10-minute lockout occurs.
  • Network Settings: Configure IP routing rules, including Destination Network, Netmask, Gateway IP Address, and Priority. Ethernet 1 Network Settings allow enabling DHCP or manually setting IP Address, Netmask, Default Gateway, and Domain Name Servers.
  • Configuration File Management:
    • Retrieve the sample "CONFIG.CSV" file for modification or backup.
    • Load updated configuration files via the FS-GUI. Multiple downloads are possible before a system restart.
  • User Management: Create, edit, and delete users with different security groups (Admin, Operator, Viewer). Admin users can modify all settings, Operators can view and modify data, and Viewers can only view settings/readings.
  • FieldServer Manager: Connects the QuickServer to the MSA Grid, MSA Safety's device cloud solution for IIoT. This enables secure remote connection for configuration, management, and maintenance. Registration involves filling in installer, site, FieldServer, and account details.

Maintenance Features:

  • Troubleshooting:
    • Verify network cabling, computer network card operation, and TCP/IP protocol configuration.
    • Check IP netmask and ensure PC and QuickServer are on the same IP network or assign a static IP address.
    • Internet browser support: Chrome Rev. 57+, Firefox Rev. 35+, Microsoft Edge Rev. 41+, Safari Rev. 3+. Internet Explorer is not supported.
    • Computer and network firewalls must be opened for Port 80 for GUI functionality.
  • Diagnostic Capture: Perform a diagnostic capture to accelerate problem diagnosis. The capture period can be set (max 1200 seconds), and the resulting zip file can be downloaded and emailed to technical support. BACnet MS/TP captures are in ".PCAP" format, compatible with Wireshark.
  • LED Functions:
    • SS (System Status): Flashes once per second when the bridge is operational.
    • ERR (System Error): Solid light indicates a system error; report to support.
    • PWR (Power): Steady green when the unit is powered.
    • RX (Receive): Flashes when a message is received on the serial port. Non-operational if the serial port is not used. RX1 for R1 connection, RX2 for R2.
    • TX (Transmit): Flashes when a message is sent on the serial port. Non-operational if the serial port is not used. TX1 for R1 connection, TX2 for R2.
  • Factory Reset: Instructions are available to reset the FieldServer to its factory-released state.
  • Password Recovery: If login passwords are lost, the unit can be reset to factory settings to reinstate the default unique password. If the default unique password is lost, the unit must be mailed back to the factory.
  • Firmware Updates: The FieldServer Manager allows for remote firmware upgrades.

Compliance with EN IEC 62368-1:

  • Units must be powered by listed LPS or Class 2 power supply suitable for the operating temperature range.
  • Interconnecting power connectors and cables must comply with local electrical codes, be suited for the operating temperature range, and meet current/voltage ratings.
  • Interconnecting power cables should not exceed 3.05m (118.3") and be constructed of materials rated VW-1, FT-1 or better.
  • For operating environments above 65°C, the unit must be installed in a Restricted Access Area requiring a key or special tool.
  • The device must not be connected to a LAN segment with outdoor wiring.
