a heavy rag to hold the blade.
Periodicallyinspectthebladeadapterfor cracks,
especiallyif you strikeaforeignobject.Replacewhen
necessary.Followthestepsbelowfor bladeservice.
1. Disconnectsparkplugwirefromsparkplug.Turn
moweronitssidemakingsurethattheair filterand
thecarburetorareup.
2. Removethe boltandthe bladebellsupportwhich
holdthebladeandthe bladeadapterto the engine
crankshaft.SeeFigure5.
3. Removebladeandadapterfromthe crankshaft.
4. Thebladecan besharpenedwithafile or ona
grindingwheel.Donotattemptto sharpenthe blade
whileit isstillonthe mower.
5. Whensharpeningtheblade,followtheoriginalangle
ofgrind.Grindeachcuttingedgeequallytokeepthe
bladebalanced.
6. Removebladefromthe adapterfor testingbalance.
7. Balancethe bladeon a roundshaft screwdriverto
check.Removemetalfromtheheavysideuntilit
balancesevenly.

8. Lubricatetheenginecrankshaftandthe innersurface
ofthe bladeadapterwithlightoil.Slidetheblade
adapterontotheenginecrankshaft.
9. Placethebladeon theadaptersuchthattheside
ofthe blademarked"Bottom"(orwithpart number)
facesgroundwhenthemowerisintheoperating
position.Makesurethatthebladeisalignedand
seatedon bladeadapterflanges.
10.Placebladebellsupportontheblade.Alignnotches
onthebladebellsupportwithsmallholesinblade.
11.Replacehexbolt andtightenhexbolttotorque:450
in.Ibs.rain.,600in.Ibs. max.
Toensuresafeoperationofyour mower,periodically
checkthebladeboltforcorrecttorque.
Off-Season Storage
Thefollowingstepsshouldbetakentoprepareyourlawn
mowerforstorage.
1. Cleanandlubricatemowerthoroughlyas describedin
thelubricationinstructions.
2. Wedonot recommendthe useofa pressurewasher
or gardenhosetocleanyourunit.
3. Refertoenginemanualfor correctengine
storageinstructions.
4. Coatmower'scuttingbladewithchassisgreaseto
preventrusting.
5. Storemowerin a dry,cleanarea.Do notstorenextto
corrosivematerials,suchas fertilizer.
Whenstoringanytypeofpowerequipmentina poorly
ventilatedor metalstorageshed,care shouldbe takento
rust-prooftheequipment.Usinga lightoilor silicone,coat
theequipment,especiallycablesand allmovingpartsof
yourlawnmowerbeforestorage.
