Changing the Deck Belt
_ ARNING:Besuretoshuttheengineoff,
removeignition key,disconnect thespark
plug wire(s) andground against the engine
toprevent unintendedstartingbefore
removingthe belt(s).
WARNING:Avoid thepossibilityofa
pinchinginjury. Donot placeyour fingers
on the idler spring or between the belt and
apulley while removing the belt.
Allbeltsonyourtractoraresubjecttowearandshouldbe
replacedifanysignsofweararepresent.
iMPORTANT:TheV-beltsfoundonyourtractorare
speciallydesignedtoengageanddisengagesafely.A
substitute(non-OEM)V-beltcan bedangerousbynot
disengagingcompletely.Fora properworkingmachine,
usefactoryapprovedbelts.
Tochangeor replacethe deckbeltonyourtractor,
proceedas follows:
1. Lowerthe deckbymovingthedeck liftleverintothe
bottomnotchonthe rightfender.
2. Removethe beltguardsbyremovingthe self-tapping
screwsthatfastenthemtothe deck.
3. Toeaseinremovingthe belt inlater steps,loosen,
butdo notremove,the boltwhichsecuresthe
pivotingidlerpulleytothe idlerbracket.SeeFig.6-6.

8. Routethenewbeltsas shownbelowin Fig.6-7or 6-8.
9. Retightenthebolt whichsecuresthe pivotingidler
pulleyto theidlerbracket.
10.Remountthe beltguardsremovedearlier.
Changing the Transmission Drive Belt

4. Inserta 3/8"-driveratchetwrench(setto tighten)into
thesquareholefoundin theidlerbracketon the left
sideofthedeck'ssurface.SeeFig.6-6.
5. Grasptheratchet'shandleandpivotitto relieve
tensiononthe belt.
6. Withbelttensionrelieved,carefullyremovethe belt
fromaroundthe left-handspindlepulley.
IMPORTANT:Carefullyallowtheratchettopivotrearward
beforeremovingit fromthe squarehole.
7. Removethedeckbeltfromaroundall pulleys,
includingthedeckidlerpulley(s)andtheelectric
PTOclutch.
