Overview

This document is an installation manual for a front bumper kit, specifically Model 19A300200EM, designed for use with select lawn tractors.

Function Description:

The primary function of this device is to provide a front bumper for a lawn tractor. While the manual doesn't explicitly state the purpose of the bumper, such accessories typically offer protection to the front of the tractor from minor impacts, enhance its aesthetic appeal, and potentially serve as a mounting point for other attachments or accessories. The kit includes all necessary components for installation, allowing users to add this protective feature to their compatible lawn tractors.

Important Technical Specifications:

The kit, identified by Model 19A300200EM, is composed of several specific parts:

  • Bumper Caps: Two units, part number 731-05368. These are placed on each end of the front bumper tube, likely for aesthetic finishing and to prevent sharp edges.
  • Bumper Assembly: One unit, part number 683-05155. This is the main structural component of the bumper, including the tube and brackets.
  • Fasteners: The kit may include one of two fastener sets:
    • Four Hex Flange Screws, part number 710-06012A.
    • Alternatively, some kits may include four Hex Screws (710-06012) and four Flat Washers (736-0262). This indicates a slight variation in the hardware provided, but both sets serve the same purpose of securing the bumper.

The manual specifies that the bumper mounts on the inside of the tractor frame, which is a key structural detail for installation. The kit is designed for "select lawn tractors," emphasizing the need to refer to the tractor's Operator's Manual for compatibility.

Usage Features:

The device itself, once installed, is a passive component; its "usage" is integrated into the operation of the lawn tractor. It provides a fixed protective barrier at the front. The installation process is straightforward, involving:

  1. Attaching Bumper Caps: Placing a cap onto each end of the bumper tube.
  2. Mounting the Bumper Assembly: Positioning the bumper brackets to the inside of the tractor's frame.
  3. Securing with Fasteners: Using the provided hex flange screws (or hex screws and flat washers) to fasten the bumper to the frame.

Maintenance Features:

The manual does not explicitly detail maintenance features for the bumper itself. As a relatively simple, non-moving component, the bumper likely requires minimal maintenance beyond periodic inspection for damage or loose fasteners. If the bumper is damaged, it would likely need to be replaced. The fasteners should be checked periodically to ensure they remain tight, especially after initial installation and during regular tractor maintenance, to prevent the bumper from becoming loose or detaching. The material of the bumper assembly (likely metal) and caps (likely plastic or rubber) suggests durability under normal operating conditions. The "GENUINE FACTORY PARTS" branding on the second page implies that replacement parts, if needed, should be sourced from MTD to ensure compatibility and quality.

Safety Considerations during Installation:

The manual includes a prominent "WARNING" section, highlighting critical safety steps to be taken before installation:

  • Place the tractor on a firm and level surface.
  • Set the parking brake.
  • Place the PTO (Power Take-Off) in the disengaged (OFF) position.
  • Stop the tractor's engine.
  • Remove the ignition key to prevent unintended starting.

These precautions are standard for any work performed on a lawn tractor and are crucial for installer safety.

Overall:

The 19A300200EM Front Bumper Kit is an accessory designed to enhance the functionality and protection of compatible MTD lawn tractors. Its installation is simple, requiring basic mechanical skills and adherence to safety guidelines. The kit's components are clearly identified, and the instructions are concise, making it accessible for users to install this protective feature.
