Overview

This document outlines the procedures for a "BIC Tune Up" on Multiplex BIC units (models MA-8-2, MA-8-2BF, MA-8-2AF), which are beverage dispensing systems. The primary function of this device is to prepare and dispense blended beverages, likely including frozen drinks and possibly those with ice and syrup components. The tune-up process focuses on comprehensive maintenance, calibration, and verification to ensure optimal performance and hygiene.

Function Description:

The Multiplex BIC unit is a sophisticated beverage dispenser capable of blending various ingredients, including syrups, water, and ice, to create customized drinks. It features multiple dispense outlets, a blending chamber, an ice shaver, and a refrigeration system. The unit is controlled via an easyToUCH screen, allowing for selection of different beverages, management functions, and service operations. It integrates a product delivery system with LMS (Liquid Measurement System) valves for precise ingredient dispensing. The ice shaver mechanism processes ice from an internal bin, and a condensate bowl manages drainage. The system also includes water and CO2 supply lines with pressure regulators to ensure consistent operation.

Important Technical Specifications (derived from the tune-up process):

  • Power: The unit operates with a 120V/50-60Hz mixer motor (GEN3 SW).
  • Fuses: Various fuses are used, including 5A for the mixer board and 4A for the DC harness.
  • Valves: The system utilizes LMS (Liquid Measurement System) valves for product dispensing, with a specific 15.7 Oetiker clamp for securing tubing. A 1/4" stainless steel solenoid valve is used for water.
  • Pressure Regulation: Water and CO2 pressure regulators are set to a dynamic pressure of 35 psi.
  • Temperature Control: Cabinet and nozzle temperatures are designed to drop below 39°F (3.9°C).
  • Tubing: Product tubing is numbered 1-8, with water being the 9th tube, and has a 1¼" I.D. x 3/8" O.D. clear specification for drain lines.
  • Sensors: A Hall Effect sensor is present, positioned 1/16 of an inch back from the edge of its bracket.
  • Blender Shaft: Contains sharp blades, requiring caution during handling.
  • Ice Shaver Blade: Sharp on both edges, requiring cut-resistant gloves for handling. Shim configuration for the shaver blade is critical, typically two (2) .056 thick shims and one (1) #7 thin shim.
  • Plunge Speed: Calibrated to 15.
  • Cup Offset: Calibrated to 2.0.

Usage Features:

  • easyToUCH Interface: The primary user interface for operation, management, and service. It allows access to the MANAGER MENU, SERVICE MENU, and OUTPUTS for controlling various functions.
  • Beverage Selection: Users can select different flavors and beverage types, with configurable slots for product assignment.
  • Ice Dispense: The unit can dispense ice into a cup or bowl.
  • Cleaning Cycles: Features a "Zone 2 cleaning" for weekly maintenance and a "Service Menu" for activating individual valves for cleaning product lines.
  • Calibration: Allows for calibration of flavors, water, and ice to ensure accurate dispensing.
  • Password Protection: Access to management and service menus is protected by passwords (e.g., "A" for general access, "SILENCE" for older mixer maintenance, "OEA422R" and "OEA422L" for newer mixer maintenance).

Maintenance Features:

The tune-up process itself is a comprehensive maintenance routine, highlighting several key features:

  • Component Replacement: Involves replacing O-rings on blender and dispense grates, LMS valves, shaver blade, shaver gasket, shaver belt, and O-rings on water and CO2 supply lines.
  • Thorough Cleaning: Includes washing, rinsing, and sanitizing blender and dispense grates, condensate bowl, ice bin, and dispensing mounting plate. It also specifies cleaning the condenser coil, condensate drain pan, and drain lines using a soft brush, wet/dry shop vacuum, and beverage drain cleaner. Hot tap water flushes are used to clear product lines and drains.
  • System Verification: Requires verifying firmware and recipe versions, blender counts (since installation and last maintenance), water and CO2 pressure regulator settings, and confirming various easyToUCH settings (e.g., "CONFIGURE YOGURT SMALL DISPENSE," "PLUNGE SPEED," "CUP OFFSET").
  • Calibration: A critical step involving calibrating each flavor, water, and ice to ensure accurate dispensing.
  • Reset Functions: Includes performing a "FACTORY RESET" and resetting the "LAST MAINTENANCE DATE" reminder.
  • Safety Precautions: Emphasizes the use of cut-resistant gloves when handling sharp components like the blender shaft and ice shaver blade, and caution when dealing with the micro switch push rod.
  • Troubleshooting: The process guides technicians through steps to ensure clear drain lines and proper pressure settings, addressing potential issues.
  • Documentation: Requires completing a "BIC TUNE UP CHECKLIST" and submitting it for service claims, ensuring accountability and tracking of maintenance.
  • Relocation Support: Notes that if the unit is relocated, a bucket should be placed under the rear drain.
