Overview

The Music Hall US-1 is a professional belt-drive turntable designed for playing vinyl records. It features a static-balanced S-shaped tonearm with a detachable headshell and offers two playback speeds: 33 1/3 and 45 RPM. The turntable is equipped with a DC motor and a 330mm diameter aluminum platter.

Function Description:

The primary function of the US-1 is to play vinyl records. It includes a tonearm with a cartridge and stylus that tracks the grooves of a record, converting the physical vibrations into an electrical signal. This signal can then be amplified and played through a sound system. The turntable offers both PHONO and LINE output options, allowing it to be connected to various audio equipment, including amplifiers with dedicated PHONO inputs or line-level inputs.

  • RIAA: 20Hz~20KHz +1/-3dB (IN: 1.5 mV 1KHz)

Usage Features:

  • Voltage Selection: The turntable is factory-set for the voltage of the country it is sold in, but it can be adjusted for different voltages (110V-120V or 220V-240V) using a switch located under the platter.
  • Assembly: The unit requires some assembly, including placing the platter, slipmat, and installing the cartridge onto the headshell. The rubber belt must be attached to the motor for proper operation.
  • Cartridge Installation: Lead wires from the tonearm are connected to the cartridge terminals, which are typically color-coded (White for L+, Blue for L-, Red for R+, Green for R-). The cartridge is then secured to the headshell.
  • Tonearm Adjustment: The tonearm requires careful adjustment for horizontal "zero" balance and stylus pressure. This involves rotating the counterweight until the tonearm floats freely, then setting the stylus-pressure ring to "0" and finally rotating the counterweight to the desired stylus pressure (typically 3g).
  • Anti-skating: An anti-skating control knob applies an inward force to the tonearm to counteract the centrifugal force that can cause outward skipping. The anti-skate value should match the stylus pressure.
  • Connections: The turntable connects to an AC outlet for power. RCA cables connect the turntable to an amplifier's PHONO input. Alternatively, if the amplifier lacks a PHONO input, the PHONO/LINE selector switch at the rear of the turntable can be set to "LINE" to use a standard line-level input.
  • Operation:
    • Power On/Off: A rotary switch turns the unit on (clockwise) and off (counter-clockwise).
    • Speed Selection: Buttons for 33-RPM and 45-RPM allow selection of the playback speed, with an LED indicating the active speed.
    • Start/Stop: An oversized push button controls platter motion. Pressing it once starts the platter, and pressing it again stops it.
    • Cueing Lever: This lever safely raises and lowers the tonearm, preventing damage to the record or stylus.
    • Pitch Control: A slider allows adjustment of the playback pitch (platter speed) by +/- 10%.
    • Strobe Indicators: Four rows of indicators on the platter, illuminated by a pilot lamp, help visually monitor the pitch and speed accuracy.
  • 45-rpm Adaptor: An adaptor is provided for playing 7" EP vinyl records with large center holes.
  • Dust Cover: A dust cover can be installed on hinges to protect the unit.
  • Suspend Play: During playback, raising the cueing lever will lift the stylus from the record, pausing play.
  • Placement: The unit should be placed on a stable, vibration-free surface, away from direct sunlight, heating appliances, high humidity, or excessive dust. The adjustable legs help stabilize the unit horizontally.

Maintenance Features:

  • Stylus Cleaning: The stylus should be cleaned periodically with a soft brush to remove dust accumulation.
  • Stylus Replacement: If the sound becomes distorted or noisy, the stylus should be checked for wear and replaced if necessary.
  • Cabinet and Dust Cover Cleaning: The dust cover and turntable cabinet should be wiped down with a soft, dry cloth. Volatile materials like alcohol, thinner, or benzine should not be used as they can damage the paint or luster.
  • Service: The user should not attempt any service beyond what is described in the manual. All other servicing should be referred to qualified service personnel.
  • Power Cord: The power cord should be unplugged during long periods of non-use or during lightning storms to prevent damage.
  • Replacement Parts: When replacement parts are needed, only those specified by the manufacturer or parts with identical characteristics should be used to avoid hazards.
