The Nakamichi EQ-Z1825 is a 7-band audio equalizer designed to enhance the sound quality of your mobile audio system. It allows for precise adjustment of various frequency ranges, providing a customizable listening experience within your vehicle.
Function Description:
The EQ-Z1825 serves as a central control unit for your car's audio system, offering detailed sound shaping capabilities. It features seven graphic adjustment bands, each corresponding to a specific frequency range: 50Hz (sub), 125Hz (bass), 315Hz (mid-bass), 750Hz (mid), 2.2kHz (mid-high), 6kHz (high), and 16kHz (super high). Each band has a boost/cut range of +12dB/-12dB, allowing you to fine-tune the acoustical response to your vehicle's interior and personal taste.
Beyond equalization, the unit includes a subwoofer volume control for dedicated bass level adjustment and a master volume control that acts as the primary volume for the entire system. A fader control is also present to balance sound between front and rear speakers.
The EQ-Z1825 supports multiple input sources. It has main RCA inputs for your primary source unit and an auxiliary RCA input for connecting external devices like MP3 players or video units. An AUX In (Auxiliary) switch allows you to toggle between these inputs. For convenience, it also features a Hi Input Auto Power function, which can automatically turn on the EQ when a signal is detected from a high-level input.
Output options include front, rear, and subwoofer RCA outputs, allowing connection to multiple amplifiers for a comprehensive audio setup. A low-pass frequency switch (60Hz or 90Hz) is available to optimize the subwoofer output based on your subwoofer and amplifier requirements.

Usage Features:
- System Volume Setting: Begin by setting the master volume and subwoofer level controls to their minimum. Turn on your source unit and increase its volume until distortion is heard, then reduce it slightly to just below the distortion point (approximately 80% of full volume). This establishes the maximum usable musical signal. Once set, the source unit volume should not be changed; the EQ's master volume control should be used for overall system volume adjustments, as it offers superior electronics, a higher signal-to-noise ratio, and more linear volume settings compared to most source units.
- Equalizer Adjustment: With all equalizer gain controls initially set to the center position (12 o'clock), play your favorite music. Adjust individual frequency controls to suit your taste, avoiding extreme settings that can cause musical peaks to distort. Increase or decrease the equalizer gain controls as desired.
- Subwoofer Level Adjustment: If your system includes a subwoofer, gradually increase the subwoofer level control until you achieve a solid bass response.
- Fader Control: For systems with rear speakers, use the fader control to blend in the rear sound.
- Low-Pass Frequency Setting: The low-pass frequency switch on the top of the EQ can be set to either 60Hz or 90Hz to match the requirements of your subwoofer and subwoofer amplifier.
- Connecting Auxiliary Devices: To connect an MP3 player or video unit, plug it into the auxiliary RCA input on the back of the EQ. Ensure the auxiliary button on the front of the unit is out (indicating the main RCA input is active). Turn the EQ master volume to a normal listening level, then press the play button on your auxiliary source. Push in the AUX button to switch to the auxiliary source. Finally, use a small flathead screwdriver to adjust the AUX gain controls on the top of the unit until the auxiliary source's volume matches that of the main source.
- Installation Flexibility: The EQ can be mounted near the source unit or under the dash using the provided mounting brackets, ensuring the front panel controls are easily accessible to the driver.
Maintenance Features:
- Cleaning: The cabinet can be cleaned with a soft, dry cloth to gently wipe away dust and dirt. Avoid using benzene, thinner, car cleaner, or other harsh cleaners, as these substances can damage the unit or peel its paint.
- Servicing: The internal parts of the equalizer/crossover unit are not user-serviceable. In the event of a malfunction, do not open the case or attempt to disassemble the unit, as this will void the warranty. Instead, contact an authorized Nakamichi dealer for assistance.
- Water Exposure: If the unit becomes wet, immediately turn off all power and seek service from an authorized dealer. Water and humidity can damage internal circuitry.
- General Precautions:
- Operate the product only as described in the manual.
- Do not disassemble or modify the unit.
- Do not pour liquid or poke foreign objects into the unit.
- Failure to observe these precautions may damage your car, monitor, or video source, and may void the warranty.
- Changes or modifications to the product not approved by the manufacturer will void the warranty.
