Overview

The Neosensory Duo is a wristband designed to help reduce tinnitus symptoms through a program of bimodal stimulation, pairing sound and touch. It functions by translating sound into unique vibration patterns that are felt on the wrist, working in conjunction with calibrated tones played from a smartphone app.

Function Description:

The core function of the Neosensory Duo is to provide bimodal stimulation for tinnitus relief. Users wear the wristband while listening to specific tones played through their phone's speaker. The wristband's four motors generate 29,000 unique vibration patterns, translating these sounds into tactile feedback. This daily exercise, performed for 10 minutes over an 8-week period, is based on neuroscience research indicating its effectiveness in reducing tinnitus symptoms for most people. The device integrates with a dedicated Neosensory app, which guides users through the program, tracks their progress, and allows for personalized settings.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Vibration Motors: The wristband features four motors capable of generating 29,000 unique vibration patterns.
  • Connectivity: It connects to a smartphone via Bluetooth, requiring the Neosensory app (available for iPhone and Android).
  • Microphone Sensitivity: The device includes a microphone with adjustable sensitivity (+ and - buttons) to pick up sounds. There are three sensitivity levels: Low (one light), Medium (two lights), and High (three lights). For tinnitus exercises, High sensitivity (default state) is recommended.
  • Band Material: The band is made of medical-quality silicone, described as hypoallergenic, comfortable, easy to clean, and anti-microbial. It fits a wide range of wrist sizes.
  • Power: The device is powered by a button on the side.
  • Frequency Range: The tones played through the app go up to 8000 Hz.

Usage Features:

  • Setup and Pairing:
    1. Download the Neosensory app.
    2. Turn on the wristband using the power button.
    3. Ensure phone's Bluetooth is on.
    4. Open the app and follow instructions to pair the wristband.
  • Wearing the Wristband:
    1. Slide the strap into the clasp for a snug fit.
    2. It is recommended to wear the wristband with the face (where the - and + buttons are) on the top of the wrist.
    3. Can be worn on either wrist.
    4. Wear snugly but comfortably, ensuring motors press against the skin.
    5. Use the clasp and loop to secure the band and excess strap material.
  • Turning On/Off: Press the power button to turn the band on or off. When turning on, three green lights should appear.
  • Adjusting Sensitivity: Use the + or - buttons to adjust how much sound the band picks up. This is useful for minimizing background noise. For daily tinnitus exercises, the High sensitivity setting (three lights) is recommended.
  • Daily Exercises:
    1. After pairing, select "Tinnitus Program" in the app.
    2. Find a quiet spot where both ears and the wristband can clearly hear the tones from the phone's speaker.
    3. Listen to the calibrated tones for 10 minutes daily for 8 weeks. The app includes a timer that turns green upon completion.
    4. Users can engage in quiet activities like meditating or reading during exercises.
    5. Headphones cannot be used, as the band needs to hear the tones simultaneously with the user's ear.
    6. Hearing aids or cochlear implants can be worn if they help hear the tones more clearly.
    7. Wearing the band all day is not necessary; only during the 10-minute daily program.
  • Progress Tracking:
    1. The app prompts users to track their tinnitus severity daily on a scale of 0-10.
    2. Users can add comments about their symptoms.
    3. A personal dashboard displays a progress chart with recent entries, offering different chart views (This week, Last 30 days, Last 60 days, All time).
  • Program Duration: The recommended program length is 8 weeks for lasting benefits. Users can choose to keep the band longer for peace of mind or continued daily exercises.
  • Payment Plan for Ownership: If users wish to keep the band after the initial rental period, they will be charged two additional monthly rental payments (totaling four monthly payments), after which the band becomes theirs. For Duo Pro users who joined before October 2021, it's one additional month for a total of three monthly payments.
  • Tinnitus Types: The program is designed to work with various types of tinnitus, including pulsatile, high frequency, and COVID-19 related tinnitus, showing consistent success across different symptomatologies.
  • Other Medical Conditions: The program has not been studied for conditions like ADHD, acoustic neuroma, or hyperacusis. Users with these conditions should consult a doctor.
  • Audiologist Consultation: While not clinically necessary, Neosensory offers Duo Pro, which includes consultations with audiologists specializing in tinnitus, recommended for those who haven't consulted one previously.
  • Wearing Arm: There is no general difference in effectiveness whether worn on the right or left arm, or on the same arm as the ear with stronger tinnitus; comfort is the primary factor.
  • Tone Volume: Tones should be played at a volume that is clearly audible and can be picked up by both ears and the band without causing pain.

Maintenance Features:

  • Hard Reset (Wristband won't turn on):
    1. Hold the power button for 10 seconds until red lights count down from 3 to 0.
    2. Release the power button.
    3. Green flashing lights will indicate a hard reset is complete.
    4. The wristband will turn itself back on shortly.
  • Troubleshooting Pairing Issues (Wristband won't pair with smartphone):
    1. Hold down the power button and the plus (+) button until LEDs scroll back and forth, then release both.
    2. Wait for LEDs to stop scrolling (approx. 45 seconds) and turn off. The band should now be powered on and responsive to sound.
    3. Remove the wristband from the list of known Bluetooth devices in the phone's System Bluetooth settings.
    4. In the Neosensory app, go to Menu (3 horizontal bars), then "Device management," select the device, and "Remove Device."
    5. Connect the wristband by pressing "Add device" from the app menu.
  • Troubleshooting Sound Pickup (Wristband isn't vibrating):
    1. Ensure the wristband is on (check for 3 green lights and vibrations when pressing + or - buttons; if not, perform a hard reset).
    2. Check for blockages (clothing, dirt) on the microphone hole on top of the wristband.
    3. Verify sensitivity level; push the + button until 3 white lights appear for higher sensitivity.
  • Password Reset: If forgotten, click "Forgot Password" in the app to receive a reset link via email.
  • Returns: Within the 30-day money-back guarantee or at the end of the rental period, return the wristband in its original box (or similar) via FedEx using the included prepaid label. Contact support@neosensory.com if the label is lost.
  • Customer Support: For further information or assistance, contact support@neosensory.com or call (904) 414-4708.
