Overview

The PAD-IT TUBA HARNESS™ is an accessory designed for tuba players, particularly those who stand or march while playing. Its primary function is to support and stabilize the tuba, allowing the player to concentrate on making music without the burden of holding the instrument.

Function Description:

The harness supports the tuba by distributing its weight across the player's shoulders and torso. This design aims to reduce strain and restrict movement as little as possible. It features multiple adjustment points to ensure a customized and comfortable fit for various body types and tuba sizes. The harness can be attached to the tuba using different methods, including direct clipping of swivel hooks or utilizing loop connectors for instruments with smaller rings.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Shoulder Pads: Equipped with antimicrobial memory foam. This material is designed to conform to the shoulders for optimal weight distribution and to wick moisture away from the skin, promoting coolness and comfort during extended playing sessions.
  • Torso Strap Adjustment: Adjustable approximately from 31" to 64" (78.7 cm - 162.6 cm).
  • Attachment Hardware: Includes durable swivel hooks and loop connectors for versatile attachment options.
  • Support Panel: Features a top-grade leather support panel on the back.
  • Construction: Proudly made in the USA.

Usage Features:

  • Customizable Fit: The harness offers numerous adjustment areas to achieve a personalized fit for maximum comfort. These include:
    • Upper Adjustment: For the upper straps.
    • Lower Adjustment Quick Disconnect: For the lower straps.
    • Weight Distribution Adjustment: Triglides located on each side of the center quick disconnect can be moved toward the back to maximize instrument support.
    • Torso Strap Adjustment: The torso strap's length can be adjusted using ladder-lock connectors and triglide connectors located at the back and sides.
  • Easy Donning and Doffing:
    1. Begin by unfastening the center quick disconnect and holding the harness by the two shoulder pads.
    2. Place arms through the openings with pads resting on shoulders, similar to wearing a vest.
    3. Fasten the center quick disconnect.
  • Torso Strap Positioning: The torso strap should be positioned just below the sternum. It can be adjusted higher by pulling webbing tabs or lower by lifting ladder-lock connectors.
  • Main Adjustment for Torso Strap: Use the two triglide connectors furthest to the back of the harness for the main adjustment.
  • Minor Adjustments for Torso Strap: Use the two triglide connectors located at the side quick disconnects for fine-tuning.
  • Instrument Attachment Options:
    • Option 1 (Direct Clip): If the instrument has a large enough connector ring at the bottom, the two swivel hook connectors can be clipped directly to it.
    • Option 2 (Loop Connectors): For instruments with smaller rings:
      1. Thread the nylon webbing loop through the ring on the instrument.
      2. Pass the plastic part through the webbing loop.
      3. Pull the plastic part to tighten the knot.
      4. Repeat for the second loop connector.
      5. Connect the two swivel hooks on the harness to these loop connectors.
  • Upper Strap Attachment: For added stability, the upper strap can be attached to the instrument's top strap ring. Depending on the instrument's ring position and preferred playing position, this strap may need to be moved to the opposite side of the harness by unthreading and rethreading it.
  • Adjusting Strap Lengths: The length of the straps can be adjusted using a method similar to step 4 (not explicitly detailed in the provided text for step 4, but implied to be a standard adjustment mechanism).

Maintenance Features:

  • Harness Removal (Leaving Attached to Instrument): It is possible to remove the harness from the body while leaving it attached to the instrument. This is achieved by simply unfastening the two side quick disconnects, allowing the harness to be taken off over the head.
  • Antimicrobial Memory Foam: The shoulder pads incorporate antimicrobial memory foam, which helps wick moisture away from the skin, contributing to hygiene and comfort during use.
