Overview

The METIS React is an innovative training device designed to enhance reaction time, agility, and cognitive processing for athletes across various sports. It consists of a set of hexagonal lights that interact with a dedicated METIS React App, offering a wide array of customizable game modes and training scenarios.

Function Description

The core function of the METIS React system is to provide dynamic visual and auditory cues that prompt users to react quickly and accurately. Each light unit is equipped with a sensor that detects contact or interference, allowing it to register a "hit" when activated by the user. The system can be used to simulate various sports-specific drills, improving decision-making under pressure and physical responsiveness.

The METIS React App serves as the central control hub for the system. Through the app, users can select from over 20 pre-programmed game modes, customize training parameters, and track performance data in real-time. The app allows for adjustments to the number of active lamps, target colors, delay times between light activations, timeout durations, and sensor sensitivity (e.g., "Far distance" or "Close distance"). It also provides options for light-sound and touch-sound feedback, and whether the lights flash or stay lit until a reaction.

Offline Mode: For training without a connected smartphone, the lights can be set to an offline mode. By holding the on/off button for an extended period (3 seconds), the lights will activate in an offline state. The time interval between lights illuminating in offline mode must be set via the app while connected via Bluetooth before launching the offline session. In this mode, the light on each device is triggered by contact or interference with its center, and it will re-illuminate after the set period has passed.

Usage Features

The METIS React system offers extensive versatility in its application, suitable for individual training or group exercises.

Attachments: The lights come with multiple attachment options for diverse training environments:

  • Adhesive Velcro: Sticky-backed Velcro allows the lights to be applied to any smooth surface, including goalposts, mannequins, and rebound boards.
  • Cable Tie Velcro: Loop cable ties with touch fastener tabs enable attachment to a wide range of products like slalom poles, cones, and agility hurdles.
  • Magnet: Each light has a magnet on its back, allowing it to attach to magnetic materials such as steel goalposts or tennis posts.

Charging and Battery Life:

  • The devices require approximately 3 hours for a full charge.
  • A fully charged device boasts a 20-hour battery life.
  • If unused for 5 minutes, the devices will automatically shut down to conserve battery life.
  • The lights cannot be used while charging. A red light indicates charging, which turns off when fully charged.

Connectivity:

  • Before use, lights should be fully charged.
  • To turn on, press the button near the charging port until audio feedback is received.
  • Connect to the METIS React App via Bluetooth. Troubleshooting steps are provided for connectivity issues, including ensuring Bluetooth permissions are granted to the app in smartphone settings.

Game Modes (Examples):

  • Standard: A basic mode where users react to lights illuminating as targets. Parameters like the number of lamps, target colors, delay, and timeout can be customized. Real-time data on fastest, slowest, and average reaction times, as well as counts and total time, are displayed.
  • Battle: A two-player game where points are awarded to the opponent for every missed lamp. Teams are assigned colors, and the app tracks points awarded.
  • True-False: Users must identify a target lamp of a specific color among other colors. The app allows setting the probability of target lights appearing and tracks correctly/incorrectly turned off lamps.
  • All At Once: All lamps illuminate simultaneously, and the user must turn them off as quickly as possible. The app displays fastest/slowest reaction times per lamp and total time.
  • Color Battle: Each player is assigned a color and competes to turn off the most lights of their assigned color.
  • Listening: In this mode, no lights illuminate. Instead, each lamp emits a different sound. The user must identify which lamp made the sound and turn it off. The app tracks incorrect answers, timeouts, and correct answers.
  • Multi-Standard: A standard mode adapted for multiple groups, allowing tracking of scores for each team (one team per color).
  • Command: Users respond to different inputs displayed on the connected device (colors, numbers, text) and turn off the corresponding lamp. Options include showing only colors, numbers, or text, or a mix of these.
  • True Action: Users select a specific action (e.g., close distance, far distance, small vibration, strong vibration) required to turn off each lamp color.
  • Homebase: One lamp is designated as the "base." Other lights randomly illuminate, and users must turn them off before returning to the base.
  • Sequence: Lights illuminate one by one in a sequence, and users must turn them off in the correct order. The timeout setting determines how long a lamp stays lit; if not turned off in time, the sequence moves to the next light.
  • Find Difference: Users must turn off the "odd" colored light. The app records incorrect lights turned off, correct lights turned off, and lights not turned off within the specified time.
  • Memory: All lamps illuminate together, each showing a different color. Users must remember the color emitted by each lamp. When the lamps turn off, users must identify the lamp that showed a specific color displayed on the connected device.
  • Memory 2: Lamps light up in sequence, and users must repeat the sequence in order. The sequence length is limited by the number of lamps available.
  • Manual: Allows users to check the battery power of each lamp and manually adjust the color of each light.
