Overview

The NEUMI ATOM CAST HD Digital Media Player is a compact and versatile device designed to play videos, photos, and music on your TV or home theater system. It comes pre-configured with optimized default settings for ease of use, but also offers extensive customization options to enhance your user experience.

Function Description:

The primary function of the ATOM CAST is to act as a digital media player, allowing you to enjoy your multimedia content on a larger screen. It supports various media file types, including videos, photos, and music, which can be loaded onto a Micro SD card or USB drive. The device is designed to be user-friendly, with a straightforward interface that allows for easy navigation and playback of your media files.

Beyond basic media playback, the ATOM CAST offers advanced features such as EShare and UPnP/DLNA. EShare is a powerful application that provides wireless media casting, screen mirroring, and remote control capabilities. This allows you to cast videos, photos, and music from your smartphone, tablet, or computer to the ATOM CAST, mirror the display of the ATOM CAST to your mobile device, or even stream your phone's camera feed to the ATOM CAST. Additionally, your mobile device can be used as a remote control or keyboard for the ATOM CAST through the EShare app.

The UPnP/DLNA feature enables the ATOM CAST to act as a UPnP Renderer, allowing it to play videos, photos, and music from a UPnP server on the same local network. This is particularly useful for households with a centralized media library, enabling content to be played on TVs in different rooms.

Usage Features:

Connectivity: The ATOM CAST offers multiple connectivity options. It features two USB 2.0 connectors for USB drives, keyboards, and mice, a Micro USB connector for power only, an IR input jack for a wired infrared remote sensor, a memory card reader for microSD cards, and an HDMI port to connect to a TV or home theater with HDMI input. An HDMI extension cable is included for convenience.

Setup: Setting up the ATOM CAST is simple. You connect it to your TV via HDMI, attach the IR receiver cable, turn on your TV and select the correct input source, and then connect the AC adapter. The device powers on automatically. Two AAA batteries (not included) are required for the remote control.

Media Loading: The device does not have internal memory, so media files must be stored on a Micro SD card (up to 512GB) or a USB drive (up to 4TB). Files should be copied from a computer to these storage devices. Organizing files into folders is recommended, with support for up to 1000 files per folder. The storage devices should be formatted using FAT32, exFAT, or NTFS file systems.

Video Playback:

  • From the main menu, select the "Video" icon, then browse your USB drive or Micro SD Card for video files.
  • Press the "OK" button on the remote to start playback.
  • During playback, "OK" pauses/resumes, "Return" stops.
  • "Left/Right" buttons skip backward/forward; holding them activates a timeline slider.
  • "Up/Down" buttons navigate to the previous/next video.
  • The "Menu" button provides additional options:
    • Display Ratio: Choose between stretched full screen or original aspect ratio.
    • Play Mode: Set repeat mode for one or all videos.
    • Subtitle: Select a subtitle track or turn off subtitles. The device supports internal and external subtitles (SRT, SUB+IDX, PGS). External subtitle files should be named identically to the video file, with a language and ".srt" extension (e.g., "The Big Movie.english.srt"). Officially supported subtitle languages are English, Spanish, and Chinese.
    • Audio Track: Select which audio track to play.

Photo Playback:

  • Select the "Photo" icon from the main menu, then browse for photos.
  • Press "OK" to display a photo.
  • The device supports up to 1000 photos per folder and can play slideshows.
  • During playback, "OK" pauses/resumes slideshow, "Return" stops.
  • "Left/Right" buttons navigate to the previous/next photo.
  • "Up/Down" buttons rotate the photo display (this effect is not saved).
  • The "Menu" button offers additional options:
    • Effect: Sets slideshow transition effect.
    • Interval: Sets delay time between photos in a slideshow.
    • Play Mode: Selects sequential or random order for slideshow.
    • Show Details: Toggles display of photo name and date taken.

Music Playback:

  • Select the "Audio" icon from the main menu, then browse for music files.
  • Press "OK" to start playback.
  • During playback, "OK" pauses/resumes, "Return" stops.
  • "Left/Right" buttons skip backward/forward; holding them activates a timeline slider.
  • "Up/Down" buttons navigate to the previous/next song.
  • The "Menu" button allows changing the playback order: Random, Sequential Repeat, Sequential, Repeat One.

Automatic Playback: The ATOM CAST can be configured to automatically play videos, photos, or music when power is plugged in (including after an outage), when turned on with the remote, or when a Micro SD card or USB drive is inserted. To enable this, go to the "Settings" menu and activate "Auto Playback." For this feature to work, media files must be in the root folder and only one type of media file (video, music, or photo) should be present. Files should be named using a common format and in alphabetical order to control playback sequence.

EShare Feature: Download and install the EShare app on your smartphone, tablet, or computer (available on Google Play, Apple App Store, Microsoft Store, and Chrome Web Store). Ensure the ATOM CAST and your device are on the same Wi-Fi network. The app will automatically find and connect to the ATOM CAST, enabling casting, screen mirroring, and remote control functionalities. Performance depends on Wi-Fi network speed and signal quality.

UPnP/DLNA Feature: The ATOM CAST's built-in UPnP Renderer, named "MediaCenter" followed by unique numbers, allows it to play media from a UPnP server on your local network. This is ideal for streaming content from a centralized media library to different TVs.

Settings Menu: Access the "Settings" menu for various configurations:

  • Network: Connect to a Wi-Fi network. A strong Wi-Fi signal is crucial for optimal EShare/UPnP/DLNA performance, especially with high-bitrate videos.
  • Language: Set the operating language.
  • Display Resolution: Set the video output resolution (Auto or specific resolutions).
  • Display Zoom: Adjust the output image to fit the TV screen.
  • Audio Output Mode: Choose between Normal (HDMI or analog AV) or Analog (AV output only).
  • System Sounds: Enable/disable remote control button sounds.
  • Volume Setting: Adjust audio output volume.
  • Audio Output Format: Set to stereo PCM (Default) or Passthrough for surround sound to a home theater receiver.
  • Close Subtitle: Set default subtitle display behavior (closed by default when enabled).
  • Auto Playback: Configure automatic playback of videos, music, or photos from the root directory of a USB drive or Memory Card.
  • Factory Reset: Resets all settings to factory defaults.
  • Support Info: Displays technical support contact information.
  • About: Displays current firmware version and access online firmware update menu.

Maintenance Features:

Troubleshooting Media Playback:

  • If videos do not play or play with problems, check if the video codec or resolution is supported. The manual provides a list of supported container files, video codecs (MPEG1, MPEG2, MPEG4/ASP, VP8, H.264/AVC, H.265/HEVC with maximum resolutions and bitrates), music formats (MP3, FLAC, OGG, APE, AAC with 32kbps to 320kbps bitrate), and photo formats (JPG, PNG, GIF (non-animated), BMP).
  • Unsupported videos can be recoded using free software.

Troubleshooting Storage Devices:

  • If a USB drive or Micro SD card cannot be read, ensure it is formatted with FAT32, exFAT, or NTFS file systems.
  • If issues persist, try copying all files off the drive, reformatting it, and then copying the files back.
  • The media player does not support HFS+ or EXT3/4 file systems.

Troubleshooting Photo Display:

  • Photos displayed sideways or upside down are shown as-is; the rotation function only changes the display, not the file itself. Tutorials on fixing image rotation issues using free software are available on the NEUMI website.
  • Black bars on the sides or above/below photos are normal if the photo's aspect ratio doesn't match the TV screen. To eliminate them, ensure photos match the TV's resolution (e.g., 1920x1080).

Troubleshooting Remote Control:

  • If the remote control is unresponsive, use a cell phone camera to check if the remote's IR emitter lights up when a button is pressed. iPhones require selfie mode for this test due to an IR filter on the main camera.

Firmware Updates: When available, firmware updates will be provided on the NEUMI website (WWW.NEUMITECH.COM) along with installation instructions.

Customer Support: For any questions, setup assistance, or issue resolution, the friendly customer service team can be reached via email at SUPPORT@NEUMITECH.COM. The product also comes with a one-year warranty covering defects in workmanship and materials under normal use. Warranty claims require proof of purchase and must be made within one year of the invoice date. Claims for missing parts must be made within 30 calendar days of product receipt.
