The New Brunswick Scientific Model CO-150 CO2 Incubator is a microprocessor-controlled laboratory instrument designed for accurate and reliable cell culture and other sensitive work requiring precise control of temperature and CO2 levels. It features a direct heat system, a solid-state infrared CO2 sensor, and a polished stainless steel chamber with easily removable internal components for cleaning and sterilization.
Function Description
The CO-150 incubator maintains a stable internal environment for cell growth by controlling temperature and CO2 concentration. Its direct heat system, with independently heated outer and inner doors, ensures uniform temperature distribution and rapid recovery after door openings, preventing condensation. The infrared CO2 sensor provides reliable CO2 control, unaffected by humidity, and includes a semi-automatic "AutoZero" function for maintaining accuracy. The incubator also incorporates a two-level alarm system to alert users to deviations in chamber conditions or system failures, and an independent over-temperature safety system.

- Stackability: Designed to support a second identical incubator directly on top, optimizing laboratory space.
- Alarm Programming: Users can set high and low temperature and CO2 alarms, door open alarm delay, alarm duration (from inactive to continuous), and alarm arming delay to prevent unnecessary alarms after door openings.
- AutoZero Function: Recommended monthly to maintain CO2 accuracy, especially after storage or transit.
- Humidity Tray Usage: For cell culture, copper sulphate can be added to inhibit bacterial growth. For IVF and sensitive work, regular water changes and cleaning with isopropyl alcohol are recommended.
Maintenance Features
- Daily Checks: Verify temperature and CO2 levels are within specification and check CO2 cylinder reserve pressure.
- Monthly Checks: Refill humidity tray with warm distilled water (1.5 liters maximum), ensuring it's pushed back against the rear wall.
- CO2 Sampling: A CO2 sample port is available on the rear panel for checking CO2 levels with an external analyzer. It is recommended to perform an AutoZero before sampling and to reset the CO2 setpoint afterward.
- Cleaning: Exterior surfaces should be routinely wiped with soapy water and rinsed.
- Disinfecting: A solution of 70% isopropanol and 30% distilled water is recommended. Users must wear protective gloves, ensure adequate ventilation, and protect electrical connections. The black protective cover must be placed over the CO2 sensor during cleaning to prevent damage.
- Prohibited Cleaning Agents: Sodium Azide, Aqua Regia, Iodine, Ferric Chloride, or Sulphuric Acid must never be used on stainless steel components to prevent damage.
- Sensor Failure Alarms: The incubator displays specific messages (°C FAIL, SAL, °C trip, tAL, AUTOZERO FAILED) to indicate temperature sensor failures, over-temperature conditions, or CO2 sensor defects, prompting user intervention or service contact.
