Overview

This document describes the AS1505 Scan Reader Pen, an artificial intelligence hardware product designed to integrate multiple technologies for language translation and text processing. It combines speech recognition, OCR (optical character recognition), text scanning, and phonetic translation capabilities. The device is intended for various uses, including foreign language learning, business communication, and travel abroad, enabling smooth communication across different languages.

Function Description

The Scan Reader Pen offers a comprehensive suite of features centered around language translation and text handling:

  • Text Translation: This core function allows users to scan text from documents and translate it into a desired language. It supports both online and offline scanning and recognition. Online translation is available for up to 55 languages, while offline translation supports 13 languages, including Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), English, Japanese, Korean, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, Filipino, Indonesian, Russian, Finnish, Danish, Norwegian, Czech, and Romanian. After scanning, the translated text is displayed on the screen and read aloud. Users can toggle between the original and translated text and add scanned content and translation results to a "Favorites" folder for later review.

  • Dictionary: The device includes a Collins Dictionary with two versions. Version 1 offers six dictionaries: Collins English Dictionary, Collins English→Spanish, Collins English→French, Collins English→German, Collins English→Italian, and FLTRP English→Chinese. Version 2 provides four dictionaries: Collins English Dictionary, Collins English→Japanese, Collins English→Arabic, and FLTRP English→Chinese. Users can access the dictionary by clicking the "Dictionary" icon on the main screen and selecting the desired dictionary.

  • Speech Translation: This feature facilitates real-time voice translation for up to 112 languages. It requires a Wi-Fi connection. Users press and hold the volume button (-) to speak into the device in the original language, then release it to hear the spoken content translated and read aloud in the target language. The device displays the recognized speech and its translation.

  • Photo Translation: Users can take photos of text, and the device will automatically recognize the words and translate them into the selected language. This is useful for translating text from images.

  • Text Scanner: This function allows users to extract text from documents by scanning them. The extracted text can be saved on the device or transferred to a PC. The device supports scanning in 55 online languages and 13 offline languages. It also offers a "simultaneous transmission" feature, where scanned text can be viewed on a computer by scanning a QR code or entering a URL.

  • Dyslexia Aid: Designed to assist users with dyslexia, this feature reads text word by word. Users can scan a sentence, and the device will read each word individually. Tapping any word will restart the reading from that point. It also allows users to click on a word to check its definition in the dictionary.

  • Recording: The device can record voice messages. Users initiate recording by tapping a red icon on the screen. Recorded files can be saved and managed within the device.

  • Favorites: This folder stores translation results from "Text Translation" and "Dictionary" that users have marked as favorites. Users can tap to read aloud or remove items from this list.

  • Settings: The settings menu provides various options for customizing the device, including:

    • Wi-Fi: To connect to available Wi-Fi networks.
    • Bluetooth: To connect to Bluetooth headsets (only Bluetooth headsets are supported).
    • Volume Rate: To adjust the speaker volume and reading speed.
    • Accent: To set whether the translated voice is automatically played.
    • Fold Line Scan: To enable or disable scanning of multiple lines.
    • Display: To adjust screen brightness and set the automatic screen-off time (1, 3, or 5 minutes).
    • Holding Pen Direction: To select between left-handed or right-handed scanning modes.
    • Device Language: To change the display language of the unit (Chinese, English, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, French, German, Italian).
    • Shutdown: To set an automatic shutdown time (invalid, 15, 30, or 60 minutes).
    • Upgrade: To update the system software.
    • Reset Settings: To clear all data, including translation history and Wi-Fi connection settings, and initialize the device.
    • About: To view device information such as model name and serial number.

Usage Features

  • Initial Setup: Upon first use or after initialization, the device requires a Wi-Fi connection for setup. Users must turn on the power by pressing and holding the power button for 3 seconds or more, then follow the on-screen instructions to configure language settings and connect to Wi-Fi.
  • Scanning Technique: For accurate text recognition, hold the pen at an angle between 75° and 90°, ensuring the pen tip touches the paper surface. Align the transparent window with the text line and move the pen to the right at a constant speed. Avoid scanning vertically or applying excessive force.
  • Speech Translation Best Practices: For accurate speech translation, press and hold the translation key for 1 second, take a breath, and then start speaking. Speak clearly at a normal speed and close to the microphone. Avoid stopping the conversation multiple times in the middle, as this can reduce accuracy. Also, avoid using word abbreviations, dialects, or jargon, as these may be difficult for the device to recognize.
  • Charging: Use the supplied USB cable or a commercially available USB cable with a rated output of DC 5V/1A or less to charge the device. Ensure the connector is inserted in the correct direction. The battery is not user-replaceable.
  • Power Management: The device displays a low battery warning and will turn off after a period of time if the battery is critically low. If the device does not turn on immediately after charging from an empty battery, charge it for a while before attempting to power it on again.
  • Force Restart: If the device stops responding, press and hold the power button for approximately 15 seconds to perform a forced restart.

Maintenance Features

  • Cleaning: To clean the device, wipe it dry with a soft cloth. Do not use gasoline, thinner, alcohol, or similar substances, as they can damage the appearance and characters.
  • Battery Care: The device uses a built-in lithium-ion battery. To maximize battery life, use the device at room temperature (5°C to 35°C, 45% to 85% humidity). Avoid exposing the device to extremely high or low temperatures, such as leaving it in a closed car, as this can reduce battery capacity and shorten its lifespan. The built-in battery is a consumable item and cannot be replaced by the user. If the device does not function after charging, it may have reached the end of its service life, which is estimated to be about 2 to 3 years depending on usage conditions.
  • Data Management: The "Reset Settings" option allows users to clear all data on the machine, including translation history and Wi-Fi connection settings. This can be useful for troubleshooting or preparing the device for new users.
  • Software Updates: The device supports system updates to add new features or improve existing ones. Users can check for and install updates through the "Upgrade" option in the settings menu.
  • Environmental Considerations: The device is not waterproof and should not be used in places with high temperature, humidity, or excessive dust, such as bathrooms, kitchens, or toilets. Avoid exposing it to vibration or placing heavy objects on it, as this can damage internal components.
  • Warranty: The product comes with a one-year free warranty. The warranty covers failures under normal use according to the instruction manual. It does not cover damage from incorrect use, self-disassembly, exposure to direct sunlight or heat for prolonged periods, water ingress, or loss caused by incompatible power supplies (above 5V/1A). The warranty also does not cover malfunctions caused by the use of non-genuine accessory equipment. Users are advised to keep the warranty card and valid purchase certificate.
  • Network Communication: The company is not responsible for any data or information leakage during network communication.
  • Disposal: When disposing of the device, follow the regulations of the local government for electronic waste.
