Overview

The NHT C-Series Loudspeakers are a range of passive loudspeakers designed for accurate and high-performance audio. The series includes the C4 Tower, C1 and C3 Bookshelf speakers, and the C-LCR center channel/LCR speaker. These speakers are engineered in the USA and manufactured in China.

Function Description:

The C-Series loudspeakers are designed to deliver a musical listening experience with reduced distortion and improved dispersion, building on NHT's reputation for audio accuracy. They are intended for use in home audio systems, including stereo and surround sound setups. The C4 Tower is a floor-standing speaker, while the C1 and C3 are bookshelf models suitable for stands, shelves, or wall mounting. Usage Features:

Unpacking and Setup:

  • C1, C3, C-LCR: Come with adhesive-backed rubber bump-ons to be placed on the bottom corners for stability and surface protection when placed on a table or bookshelf.
  • C4 Tower: Requires assistance to unpack due to weight. Includes stabilizers and rubber cones for use on wood/tile floors. Metal cones for carpeted floors can be purchased separately. Stabilizers are attached using supplied machine screws and a Philips head screwdriver. Rubber cones are adjustable for uneven floors and include a locknut.

Placement:

  • C1, C3: Can be placed on stands, shelves, or wall-mounted. NHT recommends placement at close to ear level for maximum fidelity. The C1 (2-way design) benefits from slight "toe-in" towards the listening position. The C3 (3-way design) can be placed without toe-in.
  • Wall Mounting (C3): Features threaded inserts on the rear for wall mounting. NHT recommends Vantage Point Bookshelf Mounts brackets, available on their website.
  • C-LCR: Can be oriented horizontally or vertically. For center channel use, horizontal placement is recommended, ideally above or below the TV with the tweeter closest to the TV.
  • General Placement Tips:
    • Speakers should be positioned 1.5 times as far away from the listener as they are from each other.
    • Left and Right speakers should be equidistant from the listening position.
    • Tweeter height should be close to ear level.
    • Bookshelf speakers should be placed upright and flush with the front edge of shelves or cabinets.
    • Experiment with speaker distance from walls (6”-12” recommended from the rear wall) to optimize bass output and stereo imaging.
    • Room furnishings (soft vs. hard surfaces) significantly impact sound quality; experimentation is key.

Surround Systems:

  • C-LCR Center Channel: Place directly above or below the TV. Pinpoint AM-15 wall mounts are available if needed.
  • Rear Speakers: Place in an equilateral triangle with the listening position, at least 5' apart, at the same height or higher than the front channels.
  • Rear Channel Placement (General): Keep equidistant from the center of the listening area. If close to seating, add time delay in the surround processor and place above listeners' heads.

Connections:

  • Safety: Turn off AC power to the receiver/amplifier before connecting.
  • Terminals: Accept raw wire, banana plugs, or spade lugs. Tighten by hand only.
  • Speaker Wire: At least 16 gauge; 14 gauge for longer runs.
  • Wire Preparation: Strip 1/4" - 3/8" of insulation, twist exposed strands.
  • Polarity: Connect speakers "in phase" – Positive (+) terminals (usually red) on both amplifier and speaker, and Negative (-) terminals (usually black) on both. Speaker wire often has markings (lettering, ridges, "+" sign, or color) to aid in correct connection.
  • Pre-Power Up Check: Ensure no stray strands touch other terminals.

Operation:

  • Power Handling: Compatible with most amplifier power ranges. Avoid sustained high volume levels, excessive bass/treble settings, or equalizer boosts to prevent speaker damage.
  • Listening Cues: Decrease volume immediately if unusual distortion or breakup is heard. Heat radiating from the woofer indicates the system is being played beyond its limits.
  • Break-in: C-Series speakers do not require a long break-in period; an hour or so of music playback is sufficient.

Maintenance Features:

  • General Care: Avoid direct, sustained sunlight, high temperatures, and moisture.
  • Cabinet Cleaning: Dust with a clean, soft chamois cloth. Avoid liquid cleaners and household furniture polish, especially near speaker components, as they can scratch the finish.
  • Grille Cleaning: Remove grilles from the speaker and use a soft brush or a vacuum on its lowest setting. Do not attempt to clean the speaker components directly.

Warranty:

  • Period: 5 years for parts and 5 years for labor (1 year parts and 90 days labor for electronics) from the date of purchase from an authorized NHT dealer.
  • Coverage: Covers manufacturing defects when installed and operated according to instructions. NHT will replace or repair with new or rebuilt parts.
  • Exclusions: Altered/removed serial numbers, commercial use, cabinet/appearance damage, misuse, abuse, accident, improper maintenance, unauthorized alterations, parts/labor from unauthorized sources, and power exposure exceeding ratings (overpowering, lightning, power surges).
  • Legal Rights: Gives specific legal rights; other rights may vary by state. Warranty limits to purchase price, excludes incidental/consequential damages, and limits implied warranties to the warranty period.
  • Service: Contact NHT Customer Service Department at 1-800-NHT-9993 or visit www.nhthifi.com for authorized service locations.
  • Record Keeping: Keep warranty with sales receipt and record purchase date/place for future reference.
