Overview

The NICOR Prime Chime Plus (Model: PRCP2) is a doorbell chime system designed for indoor use in dry and ventilated environments. It operates on a 120V AC/60Hz power supply and is intended for installation by a qualified electrician in a circuit protected by a fuse or circuit breaker. The system is designed to provide proper voltage for compatible video doorbells and can be configured for single or multiple chime installations.

Function Description:

The Prime Chime Plus serves as an audible indicator for doorbell presses. It supports both standard/decorator doorbell buttons and compatible video doorbells. The system includes a chime unit and two lighted doorbell buttons, along with a hardware pack for installation. It can be configured to play different melodies for front and rear doors, and the volume of the chime can be adjusted. The device is designed to work with low voltage bell wires (18-22 gauge).

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model: PRCP2
  • Power Supply: 120V AC/60Hz
  • Operating Environment: Indoors, dry, and ventilated. Not suitable for damp locations or high-temperature environments.
  • Wiring:
    • Line voltage: 120VAC, 18ga or greater.
    • Low voltage bell wires: 18ga or 22ga.
  • Doorbell Compatibility: Supports one video doorbell per chime unit (Front Door or Back Door). Requires video doorbells to be fully charged prior to installation.
  • Wiring Length:
    • Maximum 70' from doorbell to the first chime unit.
    • Maximum 200' total length if installing more than one PRCP2.
  • Daisy Chain Capability: Supports up to two chime units in a daisy chain configuration, with a maximum 70' spacing to the first unit and 200' total length.
  • "Power" or "Diode" Kit: Not required and should not be installed when using the NICOR PRCP2.
  • FCC Compliance: Complies with part 15 of the FCC Rules, ensuring it does not cause harmful interference and accepts any interference received.

Usage Features:

  • Single Chime Installation:
    • Connects to line voltage wiring (Black to Black, White to White).
    • Low voltage bell wires from doorbell buttons (or video doorbell) connect to "FRONT" ports 1(+) and 2(-) for the front door and "REAR" ports 3(+) and 4(-) for the rear door.
    • The chime unit is installed into a junction box using four included screws.
    • The faceplate is attached by pressing it onto the chime.
    • Doorbell buttons are attached to chime wiring using screw terminals and mounted to the surface with included screws.
    • For stucco buttons, a mounting tube is installed, wiring is connected, and the button is inserted into the tube.
  • Multiple Chime Installation (Daisy Chain):
    • Supports up to two chime units.
    • Line voltage wiring is connected to the first unit as in a single installation.
    • Bell wires (18-22ga) run from the "DAISY CHAIN" ports of the first unit to the matching ports of the second unit (e.g., 1(+) to 1(+), 2(-) to 2(-)). If only one button is installed, only ports 1 and 2 of the DAISY CHAIN need to be used.
    • The maximum spacing between units is 70', and the total length of the daisy chain wiring should not exceed 200'.
  • Tone and Volume Adjustment:
    • Start: Press the button.
    • Adjust Volume: A short press (<3 seconds) plays "Set Door Bell Volume, Ding-Dong" and allows volume adjustment.
    • Enter Melody Selection Mode: A long press (>3 seconds) turns the indicator light ON, and the chime plays "Set front door tone."
    • Select Front Door Melody: In melody selection mode, a short press plays a candidate melody. A long press confirms the front door melody, and the chime plays "Set rear door tone."
    • Select Rear Door Melody: A short press plays a candidate melody. A long press confirms the rear door melody.
    • Exit Melody Selection Mode: After confirming melodies, the indicator light turns OFF.
    • If no operation occurs for 20 seconds, the system exits melody selection mode.
  • Video Doorbell Integration: Wiring for video doorbells is identical to standard doorbell wiring. Users should follow the doorbell manufacturer's installation instructions for complete information. For Ring products, adjusting the "Ring tone length" in the App to 2 seconds is recommended to avoid multiple chime cycles.

Maintenance Features:

  • Power Disconnection: Always turn off the power supply at the fuse or circuit breaker box before installing or performing maintenance on the fixture.
  • Connection Verification: Double-check all connections to ensure they are tight and correct.
  • Product Warranty: Each NICOR product is warranted to be free from defects in materials and workmanship for one (1) year from the date of delivery to the end-user. Powder coat paint finish on products (other than natural aluminum or brass) is warranted not to exhibit cracking, peeling, excessive fading, or corrosion during the warranty period. Exceptions are defined in NICOR product specification sheets.
  • Warranty Exclusions: Warranty does not cover improper installation, operation, alterations, power surges, overheating due to external conditions, or acts of nature (e.g., lightning strikes).
  • Qualified Installation: Installation must be performed by a qualified electrician or under the supervision of a licensed electrician.
  • FCC Interference: If the equipment causes harmful interference to radio or television reception, users are advised to reorient or relocate the receiving antenna, increase separation between equipment and receiver, connect the equipment to a different circuit, or consult a dealer or experienced radio/TV technician.

Important Warnings:

  • Risk of shock.
  • Do not install in damp locations or environments with high temperatures.
  • Keep the fixture away from other electrical devices.
  • Continued holding or repeated pressing of the doorbell button can cause product issues.
  • Low battery levels in video doorbells may cause abnormal performance of the PRCP2.
