Operation Manual
• When using the 6” wheel, do not use the extension shaft - the wheel
may fly off the shaft and cause damage.
• Although the tachometer alone is able to achieve the higher
ranges listed in the Range and Accuracy table on page 3, the wheel
attachment has a maximum speed limitation of 5,000 FPM (for safety
reasons).
• Laser radiation may be harmful to the human eye. Avoid direct
exposure of human eyes to laser light. Eye damage can result.
Never point the unit at another person.
Keep out of the reach of children.
Avoid indirect exposure via reflective materials such as glass and
mirrors.

Overview

The DT-200LR Handheld Digital Laser Tachometer is a versatile instrument designed for precise RPM measurement and linear rate/length measurement in both contact and non-contact applications. It incorporates laser technology for non-contact measurements up to 20 feet (6 meters) and features a rugged construction with reliable quality components.

Function Description:

The DT-200LR series tachometers are capable of measuring revolutions per minute (RPM) in both non-contact and contact modes. In non-contact mode, the device uses a laser to detect reflective tape placed on a rotating object. In contact mode, an included adapter with various tips and a master wheel allows for direct contact measurement of RPM, as well as linear rates (yards/min, meters/min, feet/min, inches/min) and lengths (yards, meters, feet, inches). The unit features a memory system that stores up to 13 readings (last, max, min, and 10 extra measurements) for 5 minutes, which can be extended.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Display Range: 6 - 99,999 rpm
  • Accuracy:
    • ±1 rpm: 6-8,300 rpm
    • ±2 rpm: 8,300 - 25,000 rpm
    • ±0.006% of reading ±1 digit (±6 rpm max.): 25,000 - 99,999 rpm
  • Display: 5 digit 0.4" (10 mm) high LED (DT-207LR) or LCD (DT-205LR)
  • Measuring Units:
    • RPM (on contact using adapter, included)
    • YPM (Yards/min), mPM (meters/min), FPM (feet/min), IPM (inches/min)
    • Length: YRD (Yards), m (meters), FT (Feet), IN (Inches)
    • Uses a 6" master wheel with the 200L adapter for length/rate measurements.
  • Measuring Distance (Non-Contact): 1" (25.4mm) to 20' (6m)
  • Memory System: 13 readings (last, max, min, and 10 extra measurements) stored for 5 minutes.
  • Detection: Laser diode / contact
  • Update Time: 1 second (typical)
  • Power Requirement: 2 AA 1.5V batteries (Approx. 25 hrs life)
  • Operating Temperature: 32° - 113°F (0° - 45°C)
  • Construction: Die-cast aluminum housing
  • Product Weight: 0.8 lb (365 g)
  • Package Weight: Approx. 2 lb (.91 kg)
  • Approvals: CE
  • Dimensions: 6.6" L x 2.4" W x 1.8"H (167.5 mm x 60 mm x 46 mm); with contact adapter: Length=8.25" (209 mm)
  • Warranty: 2-Year
  • Included Accessories: Reflective tape, 2 cone adapters, funnel adapter, 3.5" extension shaft, carrying case, NIST certificate, master wheel (6" cir.) & contact adapter.

Usage Features:

  • Non-Contact Measurement:
    • Requires a small piece of reflective tape on the rotating object. Highly reflective surfaces may need to be painted a darker color for reliable results.
    • Aim the tachometer at the reflective tape from 5" (127 mm) to 20' (6m).
    • Press and hold the power switch; the laser activates, and the display shows the speed. The RPM indicator flashes when the beam is "on target."
    • Release the power switch to retain the last reading, which is displayed for 5 minutes and can be extended by pressing the memory switch.
    • Safety Note: When using the 6" wheel, do not use the extension shaft to prevent damage. The wheel attachment has a maximum speed limitation of 5,000 FPM for safety. Laser radiation can be harmful to the human eye; avoid direct exposure and never point the unit at another person. Avoid indirect exposure via reflective materials. Keep out of reach of children.
  • Contact Measurement (RPM, Rate, and Length):
    • Screw the DT-ADP-200LR Adapter into the front of the tachometer (hand tightening is sufficient).
    • For RPM, attach a rubber cone tip to the adapter shaft, ensuring proper alignment. Bring the cone into contact with the shaft, applying enough pressure to avoid slippage. Press and hold the power switch; the display will show the RPM, and the unit RPM will flash. Release the power switch to capture the last reading.
    • For Rate & Length Measurement, attach the master wheel and select the desired function using the selector switch. Press and hold the power switch while the wheel is turning; the function and its unit of measure will flash. Release the power switch to capture the last reading.
    • Memory stores last, maximum, and minimum readings for rate functions. For length (count) mode, only the last reading is stored, with no max or min.
  • Memory Recall:
    • The last, minimum, and maximum readings (for rate functions) are stored for 5 minutes after releasing the power switch.
    • These readings can be recalled by pressing the memory switch. Ten extra readings can also be captured and recalled.
  • Selector Switch: Allows selection between non-contact and contact modes, and various rate/length units.

Maintenance Features:

  • Battery Replacement:
    • Low battery voltage is indicated by a flashing "LOW BAT" on the display.
    • Remove the end cover using a coin or screwdriver to replace the two AA 1.5V batteries, ensuring proper polarity.
  • Memory Clearing:
    • To clear the memory for all functions, press the memory switch for approximately 5 seconds until the display shows " CCCCCC ". Then, press the white Power switch or Memory switch to reset the tachometer.
  • NIST Traceable Calibration: All Series 200LR units come standard with a NIST traceable calibration certificate.
  • Troubleshooting:
    • If no laser beam is evident, confirm the power switch and batteries are functioning and polarity is correct.
    • If inaccurate measurements occur, consider if the surface is too reflective (may need painting), if the beam is not hitting the reflective tape, if the taped area is too small, or if the measuring distance is too short (must be at least 5" from the mark).
