Overview

The Nikro PS1000 Upright Air Scrubber is a portable air cleaning system designed for indoor use, featuring a multi-stage filtration process to remove airborne particles. Its primary function is to scrub and filter air, making it suitable for environments where air quality is critical, such as during remediation projects involving mold, lead, or asbestos. The unit can also be used to create negative pressure in containment areas by connecting an exhaust hose.

Technical Specifications:

  • Electrical Rating: 115V, 3.5 Amps, 60 Hz.
  • Filtration Efficiency: Equipped with H.E.P.A. filters rated at 99.97% @ 0.3 microns, or 99.99% @ 0.3 microns. These filters are individually tested to meet minimum efficiencies according to MIL-STD 282 D.O.P. test or IEST-RP-CC-001.3 test method.
  • Filter Stages: Three stages of filtration:
    1. First Stage: #860958 1" Polyester Filter Pad (primary prefilter).
    2. Second Stage: #860959 2" Pleated Filter (secondary prefilter).
    3. Final Stage: #862176 H.E.P.A. Filter (99.97% efficient @ 0.3 microns).

Usage Features:

  • Portability: The unit is designed with wheels and a dolly handle for easy transport. It can be tilted horizontally for filter installation and then lifted upright for operation.
  • Control Panel: Features include:
    • Variable Speed Control (#861026): Allows adjustment of motor speed from OFF/HIGH to LOW.
    • GFCI Outlet (#862110): A three-pronged GFCI receptacle for safe operation, reducing the risk of electric shock.
    • Circuit Breaker (#860976): Protects the unit from electrical overloads.
    • Hour Meter (#860954): Tracks the total operating hours of the unit.
    • Power Indicator Light (#861067): Indicates when the unit is powered on.
    • Filter Indicator Light (#520005): A red "Replace HEPA" light that illuminates when the HEPA filter is loaded and needs replacement.
    • Pressure Relief Barb (#860721): Likely for monitoring internal pressure or connecting a gauge.
  • Exhaust and Intake Flanges:
    • Clean Air Exhaust Discharge: A 12" exhaust flange (#860243) on the back/exhaust end allows connection of a 12" hose for remote or controlled exhausting, or to create negative pressure in a containment area.
    • Air Intake Flange: Also allows connection of a 12" hose to draw air from a contaminated area while the scrubber remains in a remote, cleaner location.
  • Safety Warnings:
    • Electrical Safety: Emphasizes grounding, using a GFCI outlet, avoiding extension cords, and unplugging before servicing. Warns against operating in standing water, with wet hands, or in flammable/explosive areas.
    • Backdrafting and Carbon Monoxide Fumes: Crucially warns users to turn off all open combustion devices (fireplaces, hot water heaters, furnaces, boilers, etc.) when using the scrubber to create negative pressure in a containment area, to prevent backdrafting of deadly carbon monoxide.
    • Filter Integrity: Highlights that while filters are pre-tested, leaks or failure can occur due to handling, transportation, punctures, loaded filters, moisture, wear, and tear. Recommends individual testing and monitoring in highly sensitive areas.

Maintenance Features:

  • Filter Replacement Procedures: Detailed instructions for replacing all three filter stages:
    1. Tilt the unit horizontally.
    2. Slide the HEPA filter (#862176) into the cabinet, ensuring the threaded hold-down rod passes through the filter end cap and the gasket flange rests on the outside of the housing.
    3. Slide the rubber-backed washer (#862282) over the rod, resting against the HEPA filter end cap.
    4. Hand-tighten the HEPA filter tightening knob (#862281) onto the rod, compressing the washer's gasket. (Tools should not be used for tightening).
    5. Lift the machine upright, unclamp latches, and remove the intake door.
    6. Place the 2" Pleated Filter (#860959) on the rubber sealing gasket, with airflow arrows pointing down.
    7. Place the 1" Filter Pad (#860958) on top of the pleated filter.
    8. Replace the intake door and snap the latches into place.
  • Filter Maintenance Schedule:
    • Prefilters (#860958 and #860959) should be replaced when a significant decrease in airflow is detected, and at the end of every job to avoid cross-contamination.
    • The HEPA filter (#862176) needs replacement when the red "Replace HEPA" light illuminates fully (in highest speed position). HEPA filters cannot be cleaned or reused and must be disposed of properly.
  • Pre-Operation Inspection: Before use, inspect the unit for shipping damage, tighten HEPA filter hold-down nuts, and visually inspect the HEPA filter for damage (punctures, tears).
  • Cleaning: The unit should be cleaned and decontaminated thoroughly before storage or removal from a containment area to prevent cross-contamination.
  • Warranty: Nikro Air Scrubbers are warranted for 1 year from delivery to the original end-user for faulty workmanship or materials. Replacement parts are warranted for the remainder of the original warranty period. The warranty is void if non-original Nikro replacement parts, filters, or attachments are used.

Troubleshooting:

  • Machine will not start: Check if the power cord is unplugged, circuit breaker is tripped/blown, thermal protector on motor is tripped (allow 20 mins to cool), or ground fault is tripped (reset button).
  • Machine will not run continuously: Check if motor speed control is set to low (start in high speed then lower), insufficient amperage (use larger circuit or remove other appliances), or if the extension cord is too long/inappropriate gauge (use 12 gauge, max 50').
  • Red "Replace HEPA" light illuminates: Indicates the HEPA filter is loaded and needs replacement.
