Overview

This document describes the Nilfisk King vacuum cleaner, available in models 510, 520, 530, and 540.

Function Description

The Nilfisk King vacuum cleaner is designed for dry vacuuming in private households. It features a motor with two power settings (high and low suction) for models 520, 530, and 540, while model 510 has a single power setting. The vacuum cleaner is equipped with a dust bag and a main filter system, including a pre-filter, an optional carbon filter, and a HEPA filter, to ensure efficient cleaning and exhaust air filtration.

Important Technical Specifications

All models (510, 520, 530, 540) operate on 220-240V.

  • Rated Power (IEC 335): 1200W for models 510 and 520; 1200/600W for models 530 and 540 (indicating two power settings).
  • Max. Power (IEC 335): 1400W for models 510 and 520; 1400/700W for models 530 and 540.
  • Protection Grade (moist., dust): IP40 for all models.
  • Protection Class (electrical): II for all models.
  • Airflow with hose and tube (IEC 312): 38 l/sec for all models.
  • Vacuum: 26 kPa for all models.
  • Suction Power with hose and tube: 300W for all models.
  • Sound Pressure Level at 1.5 m (ISO 11203): 57 dB(A)/20µPa for all models.
  • Main Filter HEPA Area: 2400 cm² for all models.
  • Weight: 6.5 kg for all models.

Usage Features

Starting/Stopping: The vacuum cleaner is switched on and off by pressing button 1. For models with two speed regulation, button 2 allows cycling between high and low power. The motor starts in the last selected power setting.

Connecting Hose and Tube: The hose connector is inserted into the inlet port and turned clockwise to engage. To remove, turn anticlockwise. The hose, tube, and nozzle are connected by pressing the parts together.

Telescopic Tube (Models with telescopic tube): The telescopic tube can be adjusted to the user's height by holding the smallest tube, pressing the grey button, and simultaneously pulling or pushing the smallest tube to the desired length.

Parking the Tube and Nozzle: A parking bracket can be fitted to the tube by sliding a ring onto the tube, pushing a sleeve up until it "clicks" into the second groove of the telescopic tube, sliding the ring on top of the sleeve and locking it by turning anticlockwise, then pressing the parking bracket firmly into place. The tube and nozzle can be parked by pulling the plug free, turning the nozzle away from the machine to prevent scratching, and pressing the parking bracket into the recess at the cord connection point.

Adjusting Suction: Suction power can be regulated using a sliding knob on the curved plastic tube. Maximum suction is achieved when the knob is pushed forward, closing the aperture. For delicate surfaces like rugs, suction can be reduced by pulling the knob back to allow more air in.

Turbo Nozzle: The turbo nozzle (if included) can be cleaned by cutting and removing hair and threads wound around the roller with scissors.

Thermal Fuse: The vacuum cleaner is equipped with a thermal fuse that automatically switches off the motor if it overheats (e.g., due to a blockage). The motor will restart automatically once the cause of the blockage is removed and it has cooled down.

Maintenance Features

Changing the Dust Bag: The dust bag should be changed when suction decreases or when the dust bag indicator (if present) is completely red. Only original dust bags (product code 22359500) should be used. Using non-original bags may impair airflow, overload the motor, and invalidate the warranty.

Replacing the Pre-Filter: The pre-filter protects the motor from microscopic particles and should be changed once a year. Only original pre-filters supplied with the dust bag should be used. Using non-original pre-filters invalidates the warranty.

Replacing the Carbon Filter (Optional): The carbon filter removes odors from the exhaust air and should be changed once a year. Only original carbon filters (product code 22358500) should be used. Using non-original carbon filters may impair airflow, overload the motor, and invalidate the warranty.

Replacing the HEPA Filter: The HEPA filter cleans exhaust air of microscopic particles and should be replaced approximately once a year with average use, or more frequently with heavy use. The HEPA filter must not be brushed or washed. Only original HEPA filters (product code 22356800) should be used. Using non-original HEPA filters may impair airflow, overload the motor, and invalidate the warranty.

General Maintenance: Store the vacuum cleaner in a dry place. It does not require lubrication. The surface can be cleaned with a dry cloth, possibly with a little sulphone. For service, contact your local dealer.

Important Warnings:

  • Not suitable for picking up health-endangering dust.
  • For dry use only; not for outdoor use or storage in wet conditions. Store indoors between 0°C and 60°C.
  • Not for suction of water or other liquids.
  • Not for combustible or explosive materials, or in explosive atmospheres.
  • Not for picking up hot materials, including ashes from fireplaces or ovens.
  • Do not use if the electrical cord shows any sign of damage. Inspect the cord regularly.
  • Do not use if the machine is faulty.
  • Unplug by grasping the plug, not the cord.
  • Use only original replacement cords from NILFISK.
  • Always remove the plug from the socket before any service work.
  • Electrical repairs must be carried out by skilled personnel after disconnecting the main switch or removing the plug.
  • No modifications to mechanical or electrical safety devices should be made.
  • Maximum airborne noise is below 70 dB(A)/20µPa.
